3 o, II " OUR TEACHER'S LiKE NO OTHER TEACHER Our teacher's like no other teacher we've seen. She likes to wear costumes from last Halloween. While shouting a sonnet she'll dance with a broom, then sprinkle confetti all over the room. She asks the opinions of Mr. Levesque, the mannequin head that she keeps on her desk. She jokes with the hamster and claims he can talk. She wrestles erasers and argues with chalk. She likes to make sculptures from typewriter parts and bakes us her heavenly blackberry tarts. For homework, she says that we have to go play, and watch no TV for the rest of the day. Our teacher is either completely insane or some kind of genius with oodles of brain. But whether it's madness or cerebral powers, we don't think it matters; we're glad that she's ours. Q 92 ",

5 There's a Dog in My Soup By Kenn Nesbitt There's a doggy in my soup dish. There's a canine in my cup. The waiter brought a bowl out and I found this grubby pup. His fur is simply sopping. He's wet from head to toes. He's got some peas upon his paws and noodles on his nose. He doesn't look too happy. His eyes are filled with tears. Or maybe that's just chicken soup that's dripping from his ears. I'm sure I asked for noodles. I got this dog instead. I wonder how this happened. Was it something that I said? 6 Smart My dad gave me one dollar bill Cause I m his smartest son, And I swapped it for two shiny quarters Cause two is more than one! And then I took the quarters And traded them to Lou For three dimes I guess he don t know That three is more than two! Just then, along came old blind Bates And just cause he can t see He gave me four nickles for my three dimes, And four is more than three! And I took the nickles to Hiram Coombs Down at the seed-feed store, And the fool gave me five pennies for them, And five is more than four! 8 Feuding Friends I woke up this morning in such a bad mood, And all through the day I've been surly and rude. As my friend and I are embroiled in a feud, So with anger I find myself all but consumed! It started this week when he misplaced a book, And since then he's thrown me some terrible looks. Now this book that he thinks without asking, I took, He wants back and will get it by hook or by crook! But I couldn't as this book I do not possess, So I tried to explain but just upped his distress. And he stamped on the floor blaming me for this mess, Hoping that he could make me give up and confess! But what he doesn't know is the book I have seen, And in view of his mood, to explain I'm not keen. 9 I Ain t Been to School by Robert Pottle I ain t been to school, not never before. That s all changin now as I walk through the door. I drool on my worksheet then chew on a book. I eat off the floor and growl at the cook. I drink from the toilet. I spill all the glue. I lick my new teacher and leak on her shoe. The principal says that I broke every rule.
