Since our newsletter has started, we ve published features including polls, divrei torah, interviews, recipes, comics, and a brilliant serialized story. I thoroughly enjoyed being the editor for the Voice and hope that you, our readers, enjoyed reading it just as much as I and my contributors enjoyed making it for you. Thank you for reading, and thank you for your continued support. - Raquel Gilinski, Editor-in-Chief Life By: Aura Rubinstein D var Torah - Parshas Shelach By: Chana Seidner In this week s parsha, Parshas Shelach, it says how Moshe sent twelve spies into the land of Israel before they conquered it. When the twelve spies came back, ten of the spies insisted that the people that lived there were giants and very strong, that they would never be able to conquer them. But two of the spies contradicted them. They went against the popular vote and knew that with Hashem s help there was no reason to fear entering and conquering the land of Israel. They stood up and proclaimed loud and clear that they would conquer the land as Hashem had commanded. Hashem greatly rewarded them for their courageous behavior. From this we can learn that swimming against the tide and not going along with something just because it s what everyone else is doing may not be easy, but it s up to us to stand up for what is right. Life is like waves it has its ups and downs Life is like a game depends on what you do Life can be given and taken Life can be a curse and a blessing Life can be hard and easy Life is full of challenges but you always make it through so live your life to the fullest Vol. 1, Issue 7 - Page 1

2 THE NIGHTMARE A serialized story part four By: Shoshana Levy I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, sweat dripping down my forehead. Suddenly everything was silent the sound of trees shuffling against each other, the car's engines, even the sound of droplets of water falling from the ceiling into a puddle that was created over time, all gone as if it was dead. The only thing I was able to hear was his laughing. My fists tightened up. Suddenly, I reached into my pocket and pulled out my pocket knife. "I won't hesitate," I said, and stretched my hand out. "Clip point. Interesting. I would have used a Spearpoint, but I'm crazy." "Just shut up!" I yelled out. His laugh died down. "You really are your father s kid, I can see it in your eyes and in the way you talk." He started to walk towards me. "I always did like your father, we all did, shame he had to... well, you know. Leave." "Then why did you do it?!" Again I felt my sweat dripping down my forehead. "What did he do to you to deserve a fate like that? Why did you kill him?" A tear fell down my face. He tilted his head. "Oh, don t cry. It was all..." He hesitated. "Unintentional." He smiled, then turned around and walked towards one of the windows. He just stood there, staring at the moon. I decided to walk up behind him, but I could head Mark s voice in my head Don t do this. It could end badly. Think about what you're doing. I stopped for a brief moment, but I then continued. "This is for dad!" I grabbed his shoulder, pulled him around, and drove the knife into the body. Blood spilled onto my hand. I pulled the knife out then stabbed him again. He dropped to the floor. I backed away, started to smile, started to laugh. I finally killed the man who killed my father. I got my revenge. Cliffhanger! Continued next year! Missing: 1 comfortable rolling chair. Sincerely, Existential Student Dear Existential Student, The question regarding the meaning of life is one that has plagued philosophers for centuries. From a religious standpoint, the meaning of life is for you to serve God. From a nihilistic or absurdist standpoint, there is no meaning to life, which basically just means that the meaning of life is to have as much fun as you want and do whatever you want because there are no consequences. The meaning of life, in its barest form, depends entirely on your beliefs. Don t worry too much about it, though. Worrying too much about things that don t really matter in your day-to-day life isn t a fun road to travel down. Abigail Upcoming Events 6/11-6/13 Finals! 6/15 Last day of school!! Interview Chani Danzinger By: Raquel Gilinski Raquel: What's your favorite way to waste time? Chani: I love to sit in my bed in the dark watching Netflix all day until I get a headache. Raquel: What's your favorite class in school? Chani: Well, I really don t like class, but my favorite class from all is lunch because I love to eat. Raquel: What's your favorite place in the world? Chani: My favorite place would probably the kitchen because of the food or my bed. Raquel: What do you want to do when you're older? Chani: A rebbetzin. I just really want the title. But as for my future career, I don t really know, it s not my focus right now. Raquel: What's one thing you want to accomplish before finishing high school? Chani: Being able to speak and understand Spanish. Raquel: Who do you look up to? Why? Chani: My best friend s mother. She is the sweetest, kindest, most loving person I know. Raquel: What is your ultimate goal in life? Chani: My goal in life is to try my hardest to be happy even in the most hardest situation. 4 Recipe Corner Apple Crumble by: Raquel Gilinski 4 apples 2 tbsp. cinnamon ½ cup apple juice ¼ cup brown sugar Oats Coconut oil Crushed cookies (optional) Preheat oven to 350. Peel the apples and cut into cubes, then put them in a bowl. Pour brown sugar and cinnamon in the bowl, then mix everything around until all the apple chunks are equally covered. Put this mixture in a pan and pour the apple juice on top. Set aside. In another bowl, mix together the oats, coconut oil, and crushed cookies, then put that on top of the apple mixture. Top with an optional additional sprinkle of cinnamon and brown sugar and bake for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve warm and topped with vanilla ice cream for best results. Smoothie by: Tehora Slomianski 1 whole banana ~ 7 strawberries 1 cup milk 1 tsp. maple syrup 5 ice chunks Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. It s not hard. Demons of Me By: Aura Rubinstein Far beyond the rainbow I see a life that could be better for me. I cry each day to take away those who lead me astray. We try to be good, we try to be what we should, but what if this is what I am? So I slam the door and shut it out, demons fly away and don't come back. Vol. 1, Issue 7 - Page 4
