An from London Dear Alex, It s not a dream any more. I m finally in London! Can you believe it? My dad is on a business trip, so we are all here; my parents, my two sisters and me. Unfortunately, our dog Pluto is not with us. He is back in Canada, at my granny s. Poor Pluto! He is waiting for us to come back home. We are staying at a small hotel. It s not cheap, but it s very comfortable. From one of the hotel windows you can see the London Eye. It s the biggest tourist attraction in the heart of London. If you can t believe I m here, just look at the photo. The London Eye is a great Ferris wheel. It looks like the wheel of a giant bicycle and it s about 135 metres high. There are 32 capsules with room for 25 people in each of them. Passengers can move around, although it s better to sit in the chairs there. Much safer, of course. And you know me, I m very curious, so I m moving around while my sisters and parents are quietly sitting and enjoying our ride. It takes 30 minutes to ride the London Eye, and the wheel does not stop when people get on and off. On a clear day, it s possible to see Windsor Castle. As you can see, there are no clouds in my picture. I m a really lucky guy. I know that you like such crazy rides. Me too. I d like you and Pluto to be here with us, because we are having a really great time. See you soon, Nathan

A Girl from Scotland I take my phone and check the latest message. It s from Sophie. My new Scottish friend. Sophie: Hi! This is me and my family on a short trip to the mountains. I m the one with long red hair and freckles on my nose. Surprising, isn t it? I mean the colour of my hair. But not all Scottish people are red-haired. My dad is red-haired, just like me. Unlike my mum and my brother. There are a lot of stereotypes about Scotland and Scottish people. What do you think of when you hear the word Scotland? Nessie? Bagpipes? Golf? Castles? Kilts? Bruno: I don t know much about Scotland, so I d like you to tell me something about it. By the way, tell me more about kilts. Do men wear them every day? Sophie: No, they don t. Kilts are our national costume. My family tree has roots in Scotland and it is important to know which clan you belong to. Each clan has its own kilt pattern. The patterns are colourful and checked. My father is wearing a kilt in one of these photos. As you can see, the colours on his kilt are blue, red, black, white, and yellow. Do you like it? I mean the kilt. Bruno: Oh, yes, I like it. But it s strange to see a big red-haired man wearing a skirt. Does your brother ever wear a kilt? Sophie: No, Sean doesn t like wearing kilts. He says he feels silly in a kilt. Bruno:

What does loch mean? Sophie: Loch is the Scottish word for lake and Loch Ness is the deepest lake in Scotland. I can call Nessie to come and meet my friend from Croatia. Bruno: You re kidding! Sophie: No, I m not kidding. My best friend is also called Nessie. And I can call her, can t I? I ll invite Nessie to come to my place when you come. She is a beautiful red-haired girl. You will forget all about Nessie the monster when you see my Nessie. She is a real beauty. And she d like to meet a boy from Croatia, because she spends her summer holidays there. Oops!
