2 Welcome to our 2016/17 season! This year we have 2 new shows for you: The Lear Session Reboot and, due to demand, a new play supported by the HSE which examines the effects of drinking on young people and their families. This new Cyclone Session follows in the steps of The Bullying Prevention Session. It will examine its topic with the latest research alongside our trademark Cyclone humour and thought-provoking performances. Where did the inspiration for this new work come from? As always, your feedback. Listening to our audiences via social media, feedback forms and telephone calls gives us the information we need to present works that fulfil needs. Your input is highly valued and the Cyclone Team considers audience stakeholder opinions, thoughts and suggestions a key part of our collaborative ethos. In 2016/17 your feedback will be more important than ever as we have seven shows running in repertory. Your vision feeds our vision. Peadar Donohoe, Artistic Director Become a Cyclone Angel! Cyclone Rep is a not-for-profit Theatre-in-Education company with charity status (CHY18300). Please donate the value of one 15 ticket to become a Cyclone Angel. For details on this as well as other sponsorship opportunities, please contact Maev O Shea and the sales team ( ). 7 Billy Cider Billy Cider has been kindly supported by the HSE which have commissioned Cyclone Rep s Artistic Director Dr. Peadar Donohoe to create a work that highlights the dangers of Alcohol misuse. Billy Cider combines an interactive theatrical presentation and the latest research on alcohol consumption to heighten audience awareness and knowledge on the topic. Billy Cider is written with Cyclone Rep s signature style of combining great drama and humour to captivate and move its audiences. The story: Billy goes bushing on a night out with friends. However, he over does it and passes outs. He wakes up to find an Observer who takes him on a journey that helps him understand the influences of family, peers and society on his and his friends decision to drink. Did you know that Shakespeare coined more than 3000 new words & expressions that are now part of the English Language?
8 The Bullying Prevention Sessions Written by Dr. Peadar Donohoe, Trinity School of Education Researcher on the use of drama techniques for bullying awareness and prevention. The BPS is a workshop, play and presentation. The goals are to raise learner awareness and challenge attitudes; to define bullying and the forms it can take; to examine the contributing players of the bullying circle (see picture) and the impact of bullying. Ultimately the BPS aims to include the students voice in bullying prevention strategies in their school. Research demonstrates when students are included in the bullying preventions strategies for their school, it does help to bring down the levels of bullying. The Bullying Circle describes the roles students can play in bullying incidents D Peers are often present and can play a part D by actively supporting the bullying D Or by being passive D However, when defending students take action, bullying often stops within 10 seconds D this can make the bullying worse for the targeted child D Ignoring may contribute to the bullying as doing nothing can be seen as approval info@cyclonerep.com
9 There are two age appropriate versions of The Bullying Preventions Sessions (BPS) one for primary and one for secondary schools. Sponsored by: BpS Primary BPS Primary is a combined interactive presentation, drama and workshop where students are quizzed at the end of scenes to identify types of bullying, bullying circle players and present their ideas on what could work to prevent bullying in their school. BPS Secondary BPS Secondary is in three seperate sections: first is a thought-provoking drama that includes all the types of bullying, second is a presentation with the latest research evidence on the topic of bullying and third is a workshop where students brainstorm ideas about what could work to prevent bullying in their school. 100 mins 2nd- 6th Classes (inclusive) 10 pp, bit.ly/cycbps 120 mins All Year Groups 10 pp, bit.ly/cycbps Supported by: Health Action Zone Our students throughly enjoyed the show - it was funny, moving and engaging.
