This is the script I used when I went into the studio but it isn t always exactly what I said during the programme. Hello I'm Callum Robertson and this is the quiz, live from London In today's programme two teams of students will be answering comprehension and vocabulary questions on our topic, food and cooking. They will also be facing general knowledge questions and trying to win your votes in our Talk about English debate. Let's introduce today's competitors. Guests introduce themselves brief intros: name, where they come from etc. Hear each team's buzzer & my buzzer for bonus points. And before we get started with today's quiz there is something else we d like you to vote on. In last week s programme we asked you to send in pictures of food. You can see the pictures on the competition page. The vote closes just before the end of this programme, so there s still time to vote for your favourite. Now it s time for round one of the quiz. Our current Topic is food and cooking. Earlier I selected two texts from the BBC Learning English website on this topic. They are the Entertainment features Food and The new Page 1 of 6

2 super food. The teams have looked at the pages in advance, so let's get started, if you know the answer, press your buzzer. First the New super food, a feature all about a food which is said to be very good for health and nutrition. Here s the first question In the article, what is the new super food? Watercress Can you name 2 other super foods mentioned in the article? Blueberries, nuts, tomatoes, garlic Watercress is said to have medicinal purposes. What does this mean? Used to treat or prevent illness When was it said these medicinal properties were known from? The time of the Ancient Greeks How many people took part in the watercress experiment? 3 Healthy food is very popular these days. We are very aware of fats and sugars and calories. Or are we? Are you careful about what you eat from a health point of view or are you not that worried? (Response from contestants) This leads us on to our debate today which is on the topic of English food. English food has a reputation for not being the best food in the world, but is this a false image? Our teams today will be arguing different sides of this debate and if you are listening to this programme live you can vote on which team makes the best argument. The team which gets the most votes will get an extra point. Also as the teams are speaking I'll award them extra points for good arguments and good use of English. First - : Margarita & Khalid from Oxford House you have two minutes to make the argument that English food is as bad as many people think.
