3 UNIT 1 SUFFIXES -TION, -CIAN -tion,-cian A. Do you know any words ending with the suffixes -tion, -cian? B. Read the story below and underline the -tion,-cian words. I have always dreamt of becoming a magician since I was a child. I had read every book about magic tricks before I was 12. They weren t helpful. However, I learnt the greatest magic trick of all times when I was on vacation at a music camp on top of a cold mountain. My musician friends and I were taking a walk in the forest, trying to find a place to have a celebration for our victory in the music contest. That s where I came across this interesting old book. It was written in a strange alphabet I ve never seen, so I couldn t read it. Even so, I was able to understand the illustrations. Looking at those pictures, I taught myself the greatest magic trick of all times, but I can t tell you what it is. Real magicians never talk about their secrets or reveal their true identity. Now, I have to act like a common man. I know so much but I can t tell. Maybe, if you look around carefully, you can find the solution. C. Well, I was until I saw The Hobbit. My mission was to read all the books and see all the movies. I really wanted to do it, so I went to the cinema to see The Hobbit the first day it came out. I waited for my friend to join me, he arrived very late. We had to find out seats in the dark and in a state of confusion I dumped my popcorn all over a woman. Even though I had read the book twice, I couldn t understand what was going on. I thought the movie version could be a little different than the book, but it made no sense at all. After the first session, during the break, I asked other people about the movie and they felt the same. When the movie was over, I made a decision; I was never going to see another Lord of the Rings movie again. 7 UNIT 3 SUFFIXES -ANCE, -ENCE -ance,-ence A. Read the story below and underline the words ending in -ance, -ence. I ve always adored acrobats. I prefer to call them rope dancers. Performing acrobatic movements on a rope in a high distance from the ground is extremely difficult and dangerous. I remember my first time seeing the acrobats. It was so crowded. My dad and I were at the entrance and I heard people inside cheering. We went in quickly and there was absolute silence inside. The rope dancer was on the rope, trying to keep his balance was of the utmost importance. He looked so professional. His perfection was evidence of his hard work. It was a wonderful experience for me that I will never forget. -ance words -ence words B. Match the words with the correct meanings.
