5 Capital Letters, Full Stops and Question Marks A sentence always begins with a capital letter. We also use capital letters for names of people, places or things, e.g. Pauline, Adelaide. We generally end a sentence with a full stop. If we are asking a question we end with a question mark. 6 Commas A comma is used in a sentence to give a short pause and to make the meaning clearer. Do not put a comma before and. For example: Jane, Jill and I often jog together. A.
