10 Literture A Sonnet Lerning to Write Sonnet A sonnet is type of poem tht originted in Itly in the th century. Sonnets were often bout love. Shkespere wrote over hundred love sonnets! The sonnet form is old nd full of dust And yet I wnt to lern to write one well. To lern new forms nd grow is quite must, But I will lern it quickly, I cn tell. And so I sit, tody, with pen in hnd, Composing three new qutrins with rhyme. The rhythm flows like wind t my commnd. The A-B-A-B form consumes my time. A sonnet lwys hs lines three verses of four lines nd rhyming couplet t the end. There is usully definite rhyme scheme of ABAB CDCD EFEF GG. Tht mens the words t the end of the first nd third lines rhyme, nd the ones t the end of the second nd fourth lines rhyme, etc. There re usully ten syllbles in ech line nd the rhythm is d-dad-da-d-da-d-da-d-da. This is qutrin = four lines of verse. These words rhyme, so the rhyme scheme is ABAB. But I m not done until there s fourteen lines. One ending couplet, fter three qutrins. I ve tried to write this new form severl times. The effort s huge; I hve to rck my brin. But I persist, my fourteen lines now done. I wrote my poem; my sonnet work is won. This is couplet.
