The Aeronautical Engineers are having a fun time in the class and good luck to them with there rockets!!!

The Dig About CFK's Archaeology Class By: Elliott McKelvey On July 20th, 2016, Elliott McKelvey interviewed Emily Bertin about the CFK Archaeology class. Here s what she had to say. Q: What do you do in this class? A: We do things based on archaeology or what we ve been doing so far. It s really fun. Q: Are there any set instructions for this class? A: Sort of. We are sometimes told what we have to do in class, but sometimes that s not the case. Q: What is your favorite part about this class? A: I like doing the research on all the different things. Elliott said bye and the Journalists left, contemplating who they would interview next.

CFK Does Broadway! By: Maddie Garner Broadway is a form of art that everyone can enjoy. Whether it s Disney or an original musical, Broadway can be something that all ages fall in love with. his year Gabriella went to Lycoming College for Kids and T participated in the Broadway camp. She loves the activities that they do and making crafts. Gabriella likes to sing and play different characters, so she thought that this camp would be perfect for her! Her favorite musical is Grease, and she was inspired by the characters to be in Broadway.

Egyptology By: Sacha Alvarez Do you like Egypt? How about ancient Egyptian artifacts? You should take the Egyptology class at Lycoming College! Careful, don t wake the mummies The Egyptology class at Lycoming College for Kids sparks kids interest in history and ancient Egypt. The kids make projects such as their own clay artifacts and paper mummy coffins. Plus, the kids learn some ancient history along with having fun. I interviewed my sister, Aja Alvarez, when she took this summer class, and she told me she had a blast! Aja said, It s a lot of fun and I really like my teachers. She also told me some things she learned. I learned that people stole from King Tut s tomb. Also the Egyptians stuck sticks in clay and set them in the sun to tell time, said Aja. In conclusion, if you want your kids to go to a fun summer camp creating Egyptian projects AND learning some history in the mix, this is the camp for you.

Create the Story of Your Dreams! By: Maddie Garner Lexi writing some story ideas Have you ever dreamed of a world with impossible things? It doesn t matter if its dragons or magical fairies helping with your math test, you can create it all on your own! Lycoming College for Kids have a camp called Fantasy Story Creation. Lexi joined the camp this year and she is having so much fun! Lexi s favorite character that she s made was Emily, a 14 year old that loves going to the lake. It only takes Lexi about 10 minutes to get a full story together. Thankfully, she doesn t get writers block easily. Lexi would like to live in Little Red Riding Hood s world because she loves to visit her grandmother, but I think her visits to Granny would get a lot more interesting if she lived in that fantasy. She said it herself, it isn t easy to make stories, so don t get too frustrated with yourself next time you re creating the story of your dreams.

Geocaching By: Elliott McKelvey Elliott McKelvey interviewed Simon Justice Eck on July 21st, 2016, about geocaching. Here s what he said. The first question Elliott asked was, What do you do in this class? Simon answered, We learn about Harry Potter and use science to actually make some of the things come to life. The second question asked was, What do you create in this class? Simon replied, We take different solutions (e.g., baking soda and dish detergent) and mix them together to create new liquids. The third question that Elliott asked was, What was your favorite part about this class? Simon said, It s probably making all the different things. The outstanding team said goodbye to Simon and left in search of the next person they would interview.

Like the Harry Potter series? Then this class is for you! By: Mia Miller The Wizard s Workshop class at the Lycoming College for Kids can be a cool and interesting class. How do I know? I interviewed a girl from the class named Katie, and by the looks of the interview, she liked it. She said the Wizard s Workshop class was fun and that you got to make potions. In my opinion, it sounds really fun and exciting. They did some projects, such as when I walked in, they were creating potato like objects that they would throw and try to see who s got the farthest. They even painted faces on them, it was so funny! They created some badges, made potions, and other fun stuff! She says that the class wasn t boring, and I believe her! I asked her if she would do the class again if she did CFK next year, and she replied with a Yes. And I felt that she was honest, seeing how much fun she was having. Who knows, maybe I ll do that class one year! It sounded like fun, and maybe I ll write about it with experience. That s all the information I could collect about the Wizard s Workshop class, because of a lack of experience even though the interview did give me lots of information!

What Goes on in the Grossology Classroom? By: Mia Miller The Grossology classroom is a very interesting place. Some people like it, some don t. I took part in that class last year, and I loved it! I interviewed a girl named Bailey Tempesco, one of my classmates from the school year. My data shows that she is one of few people who do not like this class, using words such as, Disgusting and Gross I do not agree with her opinion, but some people might. I think it s ok to like or dislike the class. She says that one thing she learned was that the top of the skin is, Waterproof I like this fact, and it s a cool thing to know. From both my own experience and just looking into the classroom that day, they did a certain project that was one of the most fun. They created paper mache eyeballs! They also did what I did last year: Created fake scabs and injuries, fake poop, and I do not know if they have don t these two yet, but I remember doing fake snot and dissecting a frog, along with dissecting owl pellets! Through my interview with Bailey, she says she also learned a few things. And so did I, while taking this class. I think it may be gross to some, but it s also very interesting. In conclusion, lots of interesting things happen in the grossology classroom. If you want to see for yourself, if you walk past it, look inside. You can also take the class for the experience!

Mobile Journalists By: Elliott McKelvey In the Mobile Journalists class at College for Kids, students become young reporters every day. Let s take a look at what they do. For one week, the students do different do different things each day. That might be interviewing other people, making news stories, or investigating in different buildings. The Journalists class lasts 3 hours, which is great for the students because they love it a lot. The teachers are a very large factor to this because they design all the things. If you like the news and journaling, then CFK s Mobile Journalists camp is perfect for you. Who knows? Maybe we ll see you there!

Junior Rangers By: Nadia DiSalvo On July 21st, student Myken Barnes, introduced us into the life of a junior ranger. Junior Rangers explore many different subjects such as nature, crafts and wild life. In his class he makes volcanos and wood name tags. Also, the class made pudding and he is learning about different types of soil. He is enjoying the camp and classes so much he wants to come back next year. I asked him, Do you like to learn about nature? He responded, Yes, I enjoy learning about wild animals." In conclusion, Myken really loved his class and learning about nature. He is learning a lot and happy he decided to take this class. He is excited to go back next summer to learn some more!

A World of Wings By: Olivia Ciabattari On July 21, 2016, Elianna from the Magical wings class was interviewed and explained the Magical wings class. She answered questions about what they do, if they spend a lot of time outside, what they have done so far, what her favorite part of the class was, and if she thinks she will be back to CFK next year. In the following paragraphs, we will show her responses to these questions. First question we asked Elianna was what Magical Wings was about. Her response to that was, We make things and learn about things with wings. The next question we asked her was if they spent a lot of time outside. Her response was, Normally. The third question we asked Elianna what they have done so far. She then told us that they had made butterfly masks and that now they were painting rocks to make caterpillars. We then asked her what her favorite part of the class was. Her answer was, Exploring. The final question we asked her was if she thought she would come back to CFK next year. She said that she probably would come back to College for Kids. To sum it all up, Magical wings seems like a fun class for kids who want to learn more about winged creatures and make crafts about them. Elianna seems to be enjoying Magical Wings a lot. I hope this little article helped you know a little bit more about the Magical Wings class (a part of Lycoming College for Kids).

Snap! What happens in the black and white photography class at College for Kids? By: Sacha Alvarez Ever wonder how to use a manual 35mm camera? Or how to soak prints and get them to show up on paper? Students, like me, in the black and white photography summer class at Lycoming College learn this and more! The 35mm camera is older and completely manual. It isn t anything like today s modern day digital cameras. The students have to use black and white film. The process goes like this: you take pictures and fill up the roll of film, next you get it developed, last you make prints. One part of the camera is the aperture which you adjust to let more or less sunlight in. Another is the shutter speed which tells you how fast or how slow the camera snaps the picture. For example, if you turn the dial to 60, the picture is being taken in 1/60th of a second. In addition, the zoom and the focus are a part of the lens piece, along with the aperture. I interviewed Bella Young, one of my fellow classmates, on how you soak prints and what she thought of the class. Bella answered, You have to stick the prints in the developer for a minute, next in the stop bath for 10 seconds, then in fixer 1 and 2 for a minute each. In addition, our class went on a field trip around downtown Williamsport and took pictures of anything that caught our eyes. Then we got the pictures developed and dipped the prints in chemicals. "I just have fun taking pictures on these cameras and not knowing how they re gonna turn out." Bella Young

Can You Picture This? By: Elliott McKelvey On July 21, 2016, the Mobile Journalists of CFK interviewed Katie from the Picture This class. Here s what she had to say. The first question asked was, "What do you do in this class?" The answer was, "We print pictures and do a lot of crafts with them." The second question asked was, "Are there any set instructions for this class?" She replied, "Yes. We make things that the teachers tell us to create." The final question that journalist Elliott McKelvey asked was, "What is your favorite part about this class?" Katie answered, "I like making the scrapbooks and using pictures to create them." The Mobile Journalists concluded and left to interview another fabulous student.

Christopher Does Science! By: Riley Terrano In Super Science the kids made volcanoes, sea creatures, study dinosaur bones, and make coral reefs. Today, July 20, 2016 we interviewed Christopher Terrano to ask what he thinks about the class. I asked Christopher what types of projects he works on in this class and he responded, "I make volcanoes, sea creatures, I discover dinosaur bones and make Coral reefs." In the class Christopher made the volcano out of paper mache and bottles. They cover the bottle with mache and newspaper. His favorite part of the class is building the volcano. He liked it because it was really fun. Finally the big project for the week is to try and make the volcano erupt.

Structure It By: Isaac Young Have you ever thought to yourself I really want to know how to make a model car out of scratch but I just don t know how? In Structure It, you can! You can also learn the trick behind simple machines. If you want to know, just take this class. Before you take this class, you might have no clue how simple machines work but now with this class, you can know that simple machines are like a pulley and they are not as hard as they seem, they are just machines with less parts. The person I interviewed, Julia stated that her favorite part of her class was the car race. "It s the best part of the class because it s a contest of what team can finish the race first and it also teaches you how to make a more aerodynamic car." However, Julia's team lost because their team s car fell apart. If you really want to make cool projects you can make a working machine, you use a 9 volt battery to power your machine such as a really cool crane or a car that moves. If you want to build some amazing machines and learn about simple machines, this class it great for you.

Wizard's Workshop By: Todd Henry Do you like Egypt? How about ancient Egyptian artifacts? You should take the Egyptology class at Lycoming College! Careful, don t wake the mummies The Egyptology class at Lycoming College for Kids sparks kids interest in history and ancient Egypt. 18 Artists For A Week By: Laurel Best On July 20, 2016, the Weblogs and Social Media class went around campus to interview students of different classes. In the Young Artists class, a student named Kenedy was chosen to be interviewed. The first question asked was, "what do you do in this class?" She answered by saying, "Like a God's eye, you put two sticks together (crossed) and take yarn and cross the yarn like an "X" and continue that around the sticks until you reach the top. After that, hot glue the string to the stick and you're done." The second question asked to her was, "What is your favorite part about this class?" She replied, "When we go to the park and play, we also collected sticks for the God's Eye Craft." The last question asked was, "What different art projects do you make?" She responded, "We had made God's Eyes, journals, clipboards, and other projects. In conclusion, the young artists have made a large amount of progress in two days. Kenedy is very much enjoying this class along with the rest of the class.

Young Engineers By: Laurel Best On July 21, 2016 the Mobile Journalists interviewed students from different classes. The first question that was presented was What do you do in this class? He answered, we are building bridges and planes. The next question goes very well along with the first How do you do it? He answered precisely, "We have volunteers who help when they are done with theirs." The third question always needs time to think about What is your favorite part about this class? He responded, I love that we can build and make so many interactive things. The final question was What is your big project for the week? He said We don t have one but we do a bunch of small projects. As you can see the Young Engineers class do many different activities that are enjoyable.

Young Inventors By: Elliott McKelvey On July 21st, Alissa, who is a student of young inventors class, explained the aspects of her class to us. This class explores the to s and how s of inventing. We asked Alisa what are some tips for other little inventers she would give and she said, It is fun and you can make egg drops, rockets, marshmallow launchers, and other fun things similar to that in this class. In the afternoon, Alissa takes a Broadway class. Alisa likes when they work on her mini play which they are going to perform soon. For the last two questions we asked Alissa are you coming back next year, she replied, Yes, this was really fun. The very last question we asked Alissa was what was your favorite part of this class. She said, Making things like arts, and crafts, it keeps me busy.

Photography II By: Isaac Young Have you ever gotten into your parent s old stuff and found an old dusty film camera and wondered, how do I work this? In this class you get to get submerged into the olden days and learn the proses of taking a picture, developing your photo, hoping you didn t waist a precious piece of film. Jennie, the person I interviewed stated that the most nerve racking part of the picture process is step 1 and 3 that is because when you take a picture with a film camera you can t look at the results until it s too late. Step 3 is the other nerve racking step because as soon as you pick up the finished picture you have no clue if this actually what you wanted. Jennie also stated, If you don t have the correct angle you picture can be terrible, also if you have an average angle like strait at the person it can make the picture much worse so always try to get an angle that is different or you have never heard of, basically don t be boring. Jennie started this class because her mom gave her a film camera, then she was obsessed. If she had to get in the film business she stated, I would only be in it part time because it is so much work from start to finish. From beginning to end it seems like the photography class had a lot of fun diving into the past to discover the art of taking pictures the old fashion way.

Did You Say Kid Scientists?? By: Laurel Best On July 20, 2016, the Mobile Journalists interviewed students in different classes. The student chosen to get interviewed, Aaliyah Best, had to answer multiple questions. Including What kind of experiments are you doing? She responded, We are making fossils that we will glue to paper, paint, and let dry over night. And were making an ocean out of paper plates. The favorite part is that her class did many experiments including making fossils and ocean. She also said although they didn't take any field trips she wishes they did like young artists. As a result, the Super Science kids did many fun and cool experiments like making fossils, oceans, and many more.

Have You Seen These Artists? By: Todd Henry I interviewed was my sister Julianna about the young artist class. She is going into 4th grade in Lyter Elementary School. I asked her a series of questions about what s she does in her class. She said, "So far we made lots of things, I loved to make God eyes." They get free time every once and a while. She likes being in the young artists class and especially drawing kitties. She had fun in her class and wants to do it next year.
