3 A bou Mr. Neally's column Take off on To he Edior: Abou Mr. Neally's column. orienaion Poliics in America, "A New Breed", (Feb. 13, 1970); he scares me. Much of he hough expressed by Mr. Neally is ypical of he ulra-sigh ideology ha abounds in America oday. He claims ha "a new breed d American (is) rying o impose unexpeced pmcices and beliefs upon sociey while using our Consiuion as a shield from jusice." True only o a very small exen. There axe cerain incidences caused by a cerain few who abuse he Consiuion, husly sepping ouside he law. Bu hkse will be deal wih jus as a hank robber should be. By far, he majoriy of he "new breed d Americans" which Mr. Neally so "aply" speaks of, uses he Consiion raher as a SPEAR OF JUSTCE, as i should be. is he moral obligaion of an individual o proes acions which are offensive o his beliefs and he beliefs saed in he Consiuion d he Unied Saes. (N.B. he word "obligaion": am na claiming righs because am ired af having o claim hem, jus as you are ired of hearing abou hem. hough hey are a par d his counry). Abou Mr. Neally's reference o eachers carrying ani-war beliefs ino classrooms ( will assume i referred specfically o Addison's Mr. James, now a C.C. C., who wore a black armband o school during Che moraoriums as a proes agains killing): may ask wha is so wrong abou being opposed o killing? Mr. Neally makes i sound as if he eacher who is agains killing and carries hose beliefs ino he classroom is eaching "subversive" idmlogy o his sudens. mile a he same ime, would he defend he personal expression of a eacher wearing an American flag iao e classroon,? sounds o me as if Mr. Neally migh jus defend hose who would wear an aomic bomb arm-band ino he classroom if his was a means d showing suppar for our Governmen's policy in a given area would be suppressed? ; or "pu away"? : or gee, maybe even killed? f Mr. Neally suppors any remoely analogous form of oaliarianism such as his, he has my inviaion o leave my counry. he Unied Saes of America. Mr. Neally asks, "Can we allow absolue freedom?" and answers his quesion, "No!" This sounds a lile oppresive o me, no maer how one defines "absolue". n he las senence of he aricle, Mr. Neally sbaes ha "here is a clear and presen danger when individuals seek o use our Consiuion as a wall o sepawe and ulimaely desroy America." RGHT!! And wha in hell does he hink Presiden Nixon and Vice-Presiden &new have done? This counry hasn' been so divided since "someime back in he 1800's". They have made i sound as if o be agdns he Unied Saes' policy in Vienam is o be agains We counry as a whole. Well le's ge one hing sraigh: one can be opposed o a cerain policy and sill love his counry very much, possibly even more han supposedly "super-pario" righ wing elemens. Read he las senence n he firs paragraph of Mr. Nealy's aricle. Sop and hink. s i no possible for our Consiuion o serve boh as a ool of jusice and a guideline for life in America? And if hrough non-desrucive proces are we no sill wihin hose guidelines? Sincerely, Rober L. Anderson 166 Pearl Sre& Corning, N.Y. New yearbook o be bes ever The 1970 Corona (your yearbook) has finally been "pu o bed" says edior Ron Miano and he promises us ha his year's book will be he bes yearbook ever published a CCC.
