1 AUDITION SIDE: Narrators (Learn ALL Narrator lines) Narrator 1: Once upon a time in a faraway land, there was a tiny kingdom. Narrator 2: And in this kingdom lived a beautiful young girl named Cinderella. Narrator 3: Cinderella had an evil stepmother, and two evil stepsisters named Anastasia and Drizella. Narrator 4: Cold, cruel and jealous, they made Cinderella a servant in her own house! Narrator 1: And yet, through it all, Cinderella never stopped hoping that someday her dreams of happiness would come true. Narrator 4: The day went on, and Cinderella tried to finish her chores as fast as she could. Before she knew it, the clock struck eight, and the carriage arrived. Narrator 1: Cinderella was very sad she couldn't go to the ball. But what she didn't know was that the mice had a big surprise for her! Narrator 1: So Cinderella was allowed to try the slipper on, and there wasn't anything her Stepmother could do about it! Narrator 2: Or was there?!? Narrator 1: News spread quickly that the girl from the ball was really Cinderella... Narrator 2:... and the whole kingdom rejoiced! Narrator 3: So the Prince and Cinderella danced and danced. Narrator 4: And everybody lived happily ever after.

2 AUDITION SIDE: Cinderella, Fairy Godmother Narrator 3: Cinderella tried to be brave and hide her tears, but it was too much. The mice tried to comfort her, but it was no use. There's nothing left to believe in. Nothing. (Suddenly, Fairy Godmother appears.) Nothing, my dear? Oh, now, you don't really mean that. Why, who are you? I'm your Fairy Godmother. But that's impossible. Nonsense, child. If it were impossible, I wouldn't be here. And here I am. (Cinderella gasps as Fairy Godmother helps her to her feet.) Oh, come now. Dry those tears. You can't go to the ball looking like that. The ball? Oh, but I'm not. Of course you are. But we'll have to hurry, because even miracles take a little time. Miracles? Oh, yes! Now, run to the garden and pick me the prettiest rose. And when you return, you'll be off to the ball in no time! Really, Fairy Godother?

3 Really and truly. Now run along! (Cinderella runs off. Fairy Godmother gathers the mice around her.) Now, let's see. Um, I'm going to need a little help here. Are you ready? Mice: Ready, ready!!! I'd say the first thing we need is, um, a pumpkin. (The mice fetch fetch a pumpkin and place it at Fairy Godmother's feet.) Wonderful! Now, um, now, uh, the magic words. Um, oh -- oh, yes! Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo Why, it's all like a dream - a wonderful dream come true! Yes, my child. But remember, the spell lasts only till midnight. Midnight? Oh, thank you! You must understand, my dear. On the stroke of twelve, the spell will be broken and everything will be as it was before. Oh, I understand! Now hurry up, dear. Say hello to the Prince!

4 AUDITION SIDE: Town Criers (Learn ALL Town Crier lines) Town Crier 1: (fanfare) Hear ye, hear ye! All subjects of the kingdom! (Stepmother and the Stepsisters rush to the iwndo wo try to see what's going on.) Town Crier 2: By royal proclamation, the King declares a royal ball tonight! Town Crier 3: All unmarried young ladies of the kingdom are invited to attend and meet Prince Charming! Town Crier 4: And that means all the young ladies! (The Stepsisters begin to choke each other. Stepmother tries to break them apart. The four Town Criers enter but try to avoid the melee. One raises a trumpet.) Town Crier 1: (fanfare) Hear ye, hear ye! All subjects of the kingdom! (Everybody gathers around them, except for the Stepsisters.) Town Crier 2: The royal ball is about to begin! Town Crier 3: Will all of the eligible young ladies please... (The Town Criers stare at the Stepsisters.) Town Crier 4:... get off the ground and step inside!

5 AUDITION SIDE: Herald Herald: His Most Excellent and Royal Highness... Priiiii - iiii - iiince Charming! Herald: Announcing his Imperial Grace, the Grand Duke! (Cinderella is found. The Grand Duke hands Cinderella's mop to Anastasia, her bucket to Drizella, and her broom to Stepmother.) Grand Duke: You can come to the Palace when your chores are done around here. Herald: And you can start by cleaning up that broken slipper!

6 AUDITION SIDE: Grand Duke, Prince, King Stop the music! Stop the music! Please everyone... help me find that girl! Grand Duke: You heard him, everyone! Let's go!!! (Everyone exits, chattering and looking frantically for Cinderella. The King, Prince, and Grand Duke stay behind.) King: Where could she be? Grand Duke: She can't have gone far! (The Prince notices a discarded shoe -- Cinderella's glass slipper.) Look! She left her slipper! King: Aha! Don't worry, son! We'll find her! But how? (The King draws a blank and looks up, thinking.) Grand Duke: We could try that slipper on every girl in the kingdom! King: I've got an idea! Let's try the slipper on every girl in the kingdom! Grand Duke: (rolling his eyes) Great idea, Your Majesty. (The Stepsisters enter, curtseying badly.) Anastasia, Your Grace. (The Grand Duke and Herald wince.) Grand Duke: Yes. Charmed, I'm sure. Now, shall we begin?

7 AUDITION SIDE: Cinderella, Prince (The clock begins to chine, and Cinderella suddenly realizes what time it is.) (gasps) Oh my goodness! What's the matter? Goodbye. No, no, wait! (Cinderella starts to leave, but the Prince stops her.) It's midnight! I have to go! But why? Goodbye. (The clock continues to the chime.) (Cinderella runs off.) No! Wait! Come back! I don't even know your name! How will I find you?

8 AUDITION SIDE: Prince, King, Cinderella (The Prince enters with the King and steps into a round-robin dance with various young ladies.) (to a young lady, bored) Nice to meet you. King: (to the young lady, thrilled) Nice to meet you! (to another young lady, still bored) Nice to meet you! King: (to the other young lady, thrilled) Nice to meet you! (Drizella and Anastasia enter.) (still bored) Nice to meet-- Me first! No, me! (The Prince steps back and rolls his eyes. The Stepsisters knock him to the ground with their klutzy curtsies. The Grand Duke shoves the Stepsisters out of the way as the Herald helps the Prince up.) Grand Duke: Ladies, please! King: Don't worry, son. You'll find a girl tonight! Don't count on it. I don't even like to dance. (The Prince stops and looks up as Cinderella enters and approaches him. A hush falls over the ballroom.)

9 Hello... would you like to dance? Why thank you, Your Highness. I'm afraid I'm not very good at it. Me neither. But we can try! King: (to the Grand Duke, excited) Did you hear that??? (calling to a conductor, offstage) Hit it, maestro!

10 AUDITION SIDE: Stepsisters, Stepmother, Cinderella (Cinderella enters, balancing a huge breakfast tray on her head and wincing from the bloodcurdling screams of her Stepmother and Stepsisters.) Where's my muffin? Where's my tea? I can't possibly start the morning without my tea!!!! (The Stepsisters charge out of their bedroom and crash into Cinderella, causing the breakfast tray to spill all over them.) Look what you've done now, you klutz! My favorite nightie, and you've completely ruined it! Stepmother: Girls, girls -- what's going on? (Cinderella scrambles to clean up the mess.) Oh, I should have guessed. Really, Cinderella, you must learn to be more careful. I'm sorry, Stepmother. It won't happen again. Stepmother: Indeed. Now, clean up this mess and get on with your chores. (She takes out a scroll that is a mile long and throws it at Cinderella.) That should keep you occupied for the morning. Did you hear that? Did you hear that? That means the Prince is looking for a bride! Maybe he'll pick me! Why would he pick you when he can have me? Stepmother: Girls, girls! It doesn't matter which one of you he picks. We'll all get ot live in the Palace!

11 May I go, Stepmother? You???? (Stepmother and the Stepsisters do a double-take.) Why on earth would you go? Well, he said all the young unmarried ladies of the kingdom. (The Stepsisters laugh uproariously.) Can you imagine??? Why Cinderella, I just love what you've done with your mop! Stepmother: Girls, it's not nice to make fun of your sister. It's not her fault she's so... unfortunate. (smiling through gritted teeth) Of course you can go, my dear. (pointing to the scroll) If you get all your work done! (to the Stepsisters) Now girls, chop-chop, we must go get some new shoes! (Stepmother and Stepsisters stop dead in their tracks. Cinderella shows them her dress.) Isn't it lovely? Do you like it? Do you think it will do? Cinderella! I don't believe it! Oh, she just can't -- Stepmother: Girls, pleas. After all, we did make a bargain. Didn't we, Cinderella?

12 (fingering her beads) These beads, they give it just the right touch. Don't you think so, Drizell? No, I don't. I think she's -- (gasps) Why, you little thief! They're my beads! Give them here! (rips the beads off of Cinderella) Oh, no. Oh, and look, that's my sash. Wearing my sash! She can't. (The Stepsisters shriek as they tear at Cinderella's dress.) Oh, stop. Please stop! Oh, this is mine -- Oh, you ungrateful little -- Stepmother: Girls! Girls! That's quite enough. Hurry along now, both of you. I won't have you upsetting yourselves. (Cinderella looks at her torn dress. Stepmother sneers at Cinderella.) Goodnight, Cinderella. Me first! (The scene changes to the Royal Palace, where Stepmother and the Stepsisters are preparing to enter. The Stepsisters are fighting like cats and dogs.) No, ME first, you ugly beast! (imitating) "Takes one to know one!" How is the Prince ever going to pick you with that whhhiiiiiine of yours? Am I hearing something? I think someone's talking but I'm not sure...

13 Stepmother: Now girls, girls! Is that any way for future princesses to behave? Now, come along and practice your curtsies. Like she has to bother. (to Drizella) One look at you and the prince is going to run... Oh year? After choking at the sight of your face, he'll be frozen stiff! Take that back, you stupid ninny! (imitating) "Take that back you stupid ninny!" (The Stepsisters begin to choke each other. Stepmother tries to break them apart...)

14 AUDITION SIDE: Cindrella, Mice (Mice scurry on and crowd around Cinderella.) Mice: Cinderelly? Cinderelly? Cinderelly! Cinderelly! Narrator 3: The mice were her best friends, and helped her as much as they could. Let's see, there was Perla, and Jaz, and Luke... and Gus... (Gus remains cowering in a corner.) Come out, Gus! (patting Gus's paw) Don't let them scare you. Gus: Cinderelly go to the party! A ball. Can you imagine? It would be a dream come true. Gus: Dream, Cinderelly? Why Gus, don't you know what a dream is? It's important to have a dream. A Dream Is a Wish Your Heart Makes (Stepmother and the Stepsisters enter again as the Mice scurry and hide.) Stepmother: Girls, don't forget to give Cinderella your laundry. It's dirty sock day! Jaq: Grrr! (The Stepsisters dump a pile of dirty socks on Cinderella's head and exit. The mice clench their paws in anger.) Luke: Mean, mean, mean!!!!

15 Now now fellas, it's all right. I'm not going to think about dirty socks. I'm going to think about the ball. All the ladies in their fancy dresses, and all the men with their handsome coats and moustaches, and -- (Gus takes a bow, and offers his paw.) Why sir, are you asking me to dance? How lovely! (Cinderella crosses, carrying a mop.) Oh, who am I kidding? I'll never get my chores done in time for the ball. Besides, I don't have a thing to wear... (Cinderella sighs, picks up her bucket, and exits as the Mice go to the closet and take out an old dress.) Jaq: Look! Dress for the ball! Gus: It's pretty-pretty, but it's old. Perla: We can fix that. Need things! Need things! (The Stepsisters stomp across the stage, flinging accessories on the ground.) Mother, I can't possibly wear this dress, it's awful! This sash is so over! And these pearls, really! All i can say is -- I don't think so! (The Stepsisters stomp off as the mice eye their scattered castoffs.) Jaq: Lookee, lookee! Perla: We can do it. Gus: It'll be reezy!

16 (The mice, who have been hiding, observe the Grand Duke bringing the slipper for the sisters to try on. They talk among themselves.) Jaq: Quick, get Cinderelly, get Cinderelly! (Perla runs off to find Cinderella. The Herald displays the slipper.) Why, that's my slipper! (gasps) Don't be ridiculous. It's - it - it's my slipper! (Gus shouts out, as the other mice pull him back into hiding.) Gus: No, no, no! Cinderelly's slipper. Cinderel -- There, there, Now what's all the fuss about? Perla: Cinderelly's in trouble! Jaq: No hope! No hope!!! Don't be silly, my sweet friends. There is always hope.
