3 Exercise 2: What s the word? (4-5 minutes) Read the following dialog with your tutor and try to use context clues to fill in the blanks with the most appropriate word. You can find the missing word from the pool of words at the bottom. Mr. Jack and Mr. James arrive at the airport excitedly. Mr. Jack: I can t wait to see the in Cebu. I heard it s very beautiful. Mr. James: I am looking forward to relaxing. Mr. Jack: Me too! Mr. James: I ve read they also serve very good food. Mr. Jack: I heard that, too. The food is also cheap. 4 II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: General Description: Topic: Misplaced Adverbs of Frequency (5-6 minutes) Adverbs of frequency tell us how often something happens, happened or will happen. Some examples of Adverbs of frequency are: Always, usually, every, never, often, rarely, seldom, sometimes, hardly ever and scarcely. Some adverbs of frequency are often misplaced. These adverbs follow certain rules when used in a sentence. Remember: Some adverbs are often misplaced. Examples: Always cannot be placed at the beginning or end of the sentence. Wrong: Always, I make sure the plants are watered. Correct: I always make sure the plants are watered. Never, seldom and rarely cannot be placed at the end of the sentence. Wrong: I have gone to the United States never. Correct:: I have never gone to the United States. The adverbs "hardly ever", "never" and "scarcely" cannot be placed at the beginning of the sentence. If they are, subject-verb inversion occurs. Wrong: Never I have traveled alone. Correct: Never have I traveled alone. Comprehension Check: Always cannot be placed in what part of the sentence.
