2 TEST 1 SCRIPT 1. In the shopping mall 2 friends shopping mall background noise Judy: Well, you took your time! How long can anyone reasonably spend in a video game shop? Honestly, I d given up hope of ever seeing you again! Richard: You re a fine one to talk! Just how long did I have to wait for you to come out of Claire s? Anyway, I found what I was looking for; that shop Gamestation is really brilliant there s everything you could ever want in there even second hand consoles. Judy: Did you find the game you wanted? Richard: Not exactly but I found the Star Wars game I wanted to get for Jimmy. The shop assistant said I ought to go back in next week for the other ones. Judy: You mean we re going to have to come back again? Oh no! Still, at least you ve got one of the games you wanted... is it PC compatible? Richard: Of course! That way Jimmy can play either on the laptop or on the playstation in his room. Question: Which shop did the man go to? video games shop board games shop clothes shop toy shop pet shop 2. Idem. Richard: What about you? Did you find anything interesting in Top Shop? Judy: Not really, all the clothes are too flashy for my liking. Maybe it s the new season s colours but they certainly aren t mine! No, all I found was a fluffy scarf and a pair of earrings that should go with the blue dress Mum gave me... Richard: You mean the one you re going to wear on Saturday? Judy: Yes, look at them (rustles around in a plastic bag). What do you think? Richard: The scarf s fine, but aren t the earrings a bit too small? Judy: No, I thought that I could wear my hair up so then they d show up more. Kind of, like this Richard: Good idea, they look really nice and the long scarf around your neck will make it all look a bit classy. Question: What has Judy bought?
3 3. Idem Judy: Now, how much have you spent today? Richard: Let me see, the game cost 5 and the two magazines cost 1.50 each, so that s 8 and the bag of sweets cost 80p so that s 8.80 in all. How about you? Judy: I think I got a real bargain in Top Shop. The scarf cost 3.99 and the earrings were in the sale for 2.60 so let me see, I spent 6.59 no, that can t be right what else did I buy? Oh, I know, I got those cans of drink for us, didn t I? How much were they? 60p each I think, so that means 7.79 in all. Richard: So I ve spent 8.80 and you ve spent 7.79 I think that means you owe me the bus fare home. Ha! Ha! Judy: Yeah, right! Question: How much did the shopping cost? Match the item with the correct price: ITEM PRICE game 1.50 bag of sweets 5.00 can of drink 0.80 scarf 0.60 earrings 3.99 magazine Idem, background noise walking along, shoppers Richard: Before we make our way home, why don t we grab a bite to eat, I m starving! Judy: Hmmmm, good idea, what is there on offer near here? Richard: Well, there s the good old burger bar Judy: Yuck, no thanks! It s all too greasy and smelly in there; you come out stinking of chips! Richard: You re right! What about Fred s falafels? They also do really yummy salads. Judy: Oh, I know, I had one yesterday when I came into town with Sam. I don t really fancy having one again today there s always Pete s Pizza Palace but it s pretty expensive and we haven t got much money left, after all. Richard: Well, it ll have to be a plain sandwich from the sandwich bar near the bus stop. Judy: That s fine by me, and you can choose what fillings you like maybe I ll have cheese and pickle or maybe smoked salmon and ricotta or (fade out) Question: Link the restaurant to the expression and tick the restaurant they choose restaurant expression Burger Bar costs a lot Fred s Falafels personal choice of fillings Pete s Pizza Palace greasy and smelly Sandwich Bar super salads
4 5. On the bus traffic background noise, bus engine Judy: Wow, Richard, we got to the bus stop just in time! I m exhausted! Richard: And we managed to get seats! Aren t there a lot of people on here, Judy! Judy: Look at all the people standing up! Maybe we ought to let them have our seats Richard: What, and stand all the way home? Not if I can help it (bus stops, doors opening) Judy: Oh, Richard, there s a Dad with a pushchair and a toddler getting on, we can t let him stand all the way I m getting up. Would you like to sit down? Man: Thanks a lot, come on, Stevie, there s a place here for you I ll stand by the buggy with Rosy and you can sit next to the young man. Richard: No, that s okay, you can sit next to your son, I ll stand, don t worry Question: Who finally has a seat on the bus? Judy and Richard Richard and the man s son Judy and the man s daughter the man and his son 6. Walking home, traffic distant, street noises Richard: Well, I m glad I stood up after all; that man looked really tired it can t be easy being in town with two small children. Judy: Yes, and wasn t his little girl sweet with her plaits and her cuddly rabbit! Richard: She really took to you what were you making her giggle about? Judy: I got my fluffy scarf out and was tickling her with it. Richard: Speaking of which where s your bag? Judy: My bag? Oh, no! I must have left it on the bus when I got off! It s got my earrings in it! What am I going to do? I bought them specially for Saturday oh no! (wails) Richard: Have you got your scarf? Judy: Yes, that s in my handbag but I must have forgotten the other one on the seat... Richard: Well, you ll just have to phone the bus company when you get home and ask if they ve found it. Cath: Yes, they're very useful for carrying our shopping home in from the supermarket but are a bit of a problem. Rob: Not surprisingly millions are used every day all around the world. And today we'll be telling you about a fight to cut the number being used and thrown away. Now, Cath, do you use lots of carrier bags? Cath: Well I try not to. [ ] or I recycle them. Rob: That's good because recycling the plastic carrier bags is one way to reduce waste. [ ] Cath: And the plastic carrier bag gets blamed for lots of environmental problems. Rob: Yes. For example, many of them end up in our seas and in our countryside and get swallowed by animals and fish. The problem is they're not biodegradable. Cath: Yes, they don't decompose naturally very quickly. It can take up to 1000 years. Rob: So that's why the government in Wales is trying to fight the problem. 8 TEST 3 SCRIPT Animal Safety on Movie Sets Still a Concern Winter, star of "Dolphin Tale" First part Welcome to AMERICAN MOSAIC in VOA Special English. I m Pat Bodner. Today we tell about efforts to protect Hollywood s animal actors. [...] PAT BODNER : Animals have been used, and sometimes abused, in movie-making since the early days of the industry. However, the American Humane Association has worked for many years to protect animals in films. And, the digital age might make animal actors unnecessary. Christopher Cruise has our story. CHRISTOPHER CRUISE: The new film Dolphin Tale tells about a dolphin that loses her tail because of an injury from a crab-trap. A doctor provides her with an artificial tail that saves her life. The film is based on a real event. And the star of the film, Winter, is a real dolphin that lost her tail. The American Humane Society worked with the movie s makers to make sure Winter stayed safe and healthy during filming. The animal protection group does this for all animal actors in America. ////// Second part A thick book of rules and guidelines tells Hollywood moviemakers how to treat animals. Karen Rosa leads the American Humane Society s film and television group. KAREN ROSA: Everything from the smallest insect to the largest mammal. We believe that for the sake of entertainment, everybody should go home alive. This was not always the policy in the early days of film. In nineteen thirty-nine a horse was forced off a mountain, falling to his death, in the movie Jesse James. The next year, guidelines were established to guarantee safe and healthy conditions for animals in movies. Clare Richardson is the president of the Diane Fossey Gorilla Fund. She says computer generated imagery should decrease the use of animals in the film industry. Karen Rosa praises movie makers for the use of computer-made animals. But, she also says there is nothing like the real thing. Those on all sides of the issue seem to welcome the new technology, however. They say it helps protect animals and expands the creative possibilities of moviemakers.
9 TEST 3 CORRIGE 1. What is the report about? films and animals Une seule réponse correcte. Si deux réponses, compter faux What does the American humane association protect? animals 3.
