GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Affirmative Statements(5-6 minutes) Affirmative statements are sentences that affirm a proposition. These statements confirm or assert something as true or valid. Examples: QUESTION Do you want to be a chef? Are you done with the sterilization process? Will you be at the annual food fair? Did the fermentation go well? Must I attend the meeting? My wife wants to dine out. AFFIRMATIVE STATEMENT I want to be a chef. I am done. I will be there. It went well. You must attend the meeting. Remember: The opposite of an affirmative statement is a negative statement. It uses the word not. If you want to agree, don t use the not word. Do you want to be a chef? Affirmative Statement: I want to be a chef. (affirming a proposition,) Negative Statement: I do not want to be a chef. ( negating a proposition) 4
