4 Preview and warm-up In this lesson, you will learn the difference between adjectives ending ed and -ing and how to use them properly. This is a really exciting party. 4

5 -ed adjectives Adjectives which end with ed describe how we are feeling. Look at the examples below. I am tired. Sheila was bored. Brad was frightened. They are relaxed. I was terrified. 5

6 -ed adjectives Adjectives which end with ing describe how things make us feel. Look at the examples below. The work was tiring. The lesson was boring. The film was frightening. The holiday was relaxing. The rollercoaster was terrifying. 6

7 -ed and ing adjectives Look at some examples of ed and -ing adjectives side by side. 14 Adjectives and prepositions Some adjectives are followed by certain prepositions. There are no rules so you simply have to learn them. Some adjectives can be followed by different prepositions: look at pleased below. + with + for I was satisfied with the work they did. She was very unhappy with her grades. I was really angry with my son when he came home late. I was really pleased with how the cake turned out. Eating vegetables is good for you. Smoking is bad for you. Charles Darwin is famous for his theory of evolution. I was pleased for my mum when she won the cake competition. 14
