1 Ukulele Sing-a-Long Gotta Haves These songs are either long out of copyright or written by myself or friends. Ain t She Sweet, ive oot Two are Tin Pan Alley songs and JaDa (Ukulele Ike s big hit) are traditional ukulele show-off tunes. If you play the ukulele you are expected to know these songs! It s the law! Saints Train is a composite of two folk tunes married long ago by Woody Guthrie. I believe I ve Got That Old ashioned Love in My Heart is an old Baptist hymn. I wrote the music to 10,000 Ukuleles and added a few words, but the lyrics were written by R. Bruce. This song was the result of a heated argument in an early Internet forum on the ukulele. Ukulele players were just beginning to find one another. There was an animated discussion about whether or not it was alright for players to use uke straps. Some folks were quite adamantly on one side or the other. R. Bruce wrote a poem to help mellow out the fracas. I asked R. if I could put it to music. He said do what you want with it. I ve never personally met R. But we have kept in touch over the years. The song has been played in numerous festivals and workshops in Ireland, Nova Scotia, South America, and festivals in New York and Honolulu. Like Guthrie s This Land is Your Land, it was licensed for a dollar and someone has already paid the dollar. It s yours now. Years ago the late U. Utah Phillips gave me permission to sing his songs. Said I didn t really need it, that they were folk songs and owned by the people. His tune, Hymn Song was sung at his memorial. My group, the Strum Bums, which sometimes included Phillips, still sings this song to remember him and keep his music and insight present. Print out these songs so you can play and sing out, too. 2 ive oot Two There are conflicting sources regarding who originally composed "Has Anybody Seen My Gal?", as the song was often adjusted and had lyrics and verses added or removed several times. Some sources credit Percy Weinrich (music) and Jack Mahoney (lyrics) as writing the song during But for the song in its most popular form, credit is given to Ray Henderson (music) and Sam M. Lewis and Joseph Widow Young (lyrics). Young also wrote DinahI, Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a LetterI, A Shanty in Old Shanty Town and others.!! 4 Ja-Da (1918) Written by Bob arleton, recorded by Ukelele Ike This somewhat frivolous ditty was penned in a hicago bar and became an instant hit in 1918 and later a standard. Most of the jazz greats recorded it and more recently Al Jarreau and Hot Tuna. Play it with a bounce. Sounds cool with a Bb7+ on the second jing in the first and last lines. Sing it first time through, then play as instrumental as long as you want (or until every band member gets a shot at it) and the sing it again and be done. Great fun. Eb 9 7 7!!
