2 Before Reading Warm-Up Today we will do some close reading of our second myth, Prometheus and Io. What was the main problem in the story? How was it solved? (Have turn and talk partners do quick retell of story s key events). Materials VOCAB (see above) Preview Target Task Today we ll be CLOSE READING the key events and details from Prometheus and Io. Who can remember what it means to close read a text? (Connect back to central message days from folk tales unit!) We re going to be zooming in our focus on Jupiter s actions, and how they impacted or influenced the plot of the story. Unit Plan Notes: This lesson is set up as a close read. Scholars have a basic understanding of the text from lesson 4, so they should be able to reread with a different and deeper lens. Scholars should reread with the lens of figuring out how Jupiter s actions contributed to the sequence of events and influenced Prometheus and Io.
