You can find the missing word from the pool of words at the bottom. A tour guide is welcoming a group of tourist to Japan. Tour Guide: Good morning everyone! Welcome to Japan. I am Randy and I will be your tour guide for the week. I suggest you put on your nametag so we can easily identify each other. Melissa: Wow! We are so excited for the tour. I heard everyone s out to see the Cherry Blossom Festival. Tour Guide: That s right. Today is the start of Cherry Blossom Festival so it s a here in Japan. 4 II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Adjective Order (5-6 minutes) General Description: When using more than one adjective in a sentence, there is a particular order that should be followed. The proper order is found below: Opinion Size Age Shape Color Origin Material An opinion adjective explains what you think about something or someone (other people may not agree with you). Examples: silly, beautiful, horrible, difficult A size adjective tells you how big or small something or someone is. Examples: large, tiny, enormous, little An age adjective tells you how young or old something or someone is. Examples: ancient, new, young, old A shape adjective describes the shape of something. Examples: square, round, flat, rectangular A color adjective describes the color of something. Examples: blue, pink, reddish, grey An origin adjective describes where something or someone comes from. Examples: French, lunar, American, eastern, Greek A material adjective describes what something is made from. Examples: wooden, metal, cotton, paper Purpose A purpose adjective describes what something is used for. These adjectives often end with "- ing". Examples: sleeping (as in "sleeping bag"), roasting (as in "roasting tin") Remember: Use the acronym OSASCOMP for opinion, size, age, shape, color, origin, material and purpose. This will help to easily recall the adjective order. Examples: In Kyoto City, I was so amused with the large, thousand year-old, copper Buddha. Size Age Material The tourists look for a beautiful, white, South Sea pearls for souvenirs. Opinion Color Origin Singapore is a well-organized and small state. Opinion Size Christmas season makes the tourist look for a place that is beautiful, wide and relaxing. Opinion Size Purpose Page 4
