1 Relaxed Performance: Saturday, March 3rd 2pm Social Story

2 I am going to Northwestern University to see a play called Knuffle Bunny! I will come to see the show by bus, train, or car.

3 Northwestern Wirtz Center When I get to Northwestern, I will enter the Virginia Wadsworth Wirtz Center. (A map is at the end of the social story for me and my parents)

4 Before the Show The show will start at 2 pm, but I can arrive as early as 1:15 pm to color or play with a pretend washing machine in the lobby. There will also be a bubble machine! The actors need to finish preparing, so the doors to the theatre won t open until 1:45 pm.

5 Lobby When I enter the lobby I will meet Amy, Rachel, and other teaching artists. Hi, I m Amy! Hi, I m Rachel!

6 Bathrooms There is one men s bathroom and one women s bathroom in the lobby. If I need a drink, there is a water fountain by the men s bathroom. The toilets are automatic so sometimes they might flush before I am ready. They will stop flushing after a few seconds.

7 Seating At 1:45 pm, the doors to the theatre will open. I can go and find a seat anytime before 2:00 pm, when the show starts. I get to pick where I want to sit.

8 Stage The play will happen on stage. I will not go on stage. I will stay close to my seat.

9 Welcome Announcement Before the show begins, an Imagine U staff member will welcome me to the show. They will tell me where the exits are, and what makes this show special. The lights will dim, and the play will begin. The lights will never go all the way off.

10 Glow Wand Sometimes the show can be a little surprising. An Imagine U staff member will be seated near the stage and will hold up a blue glow wand before anything surprising happens. If I am feeling nervous, I can cover my eyes or ears, or I can hug the person I came with.

11 Quiet Room If I ever need a break, I can always go to the lobby to walk around or sit down. I can also go to the quiet area. The quiet area is in the room across from the theatre, called The Struble. There will be some toys and a teaching artist in there.

12 Entrances & Exits During the show, the actors will be using four different entrances and exits and may walk by my seat. They will not touch me.

13 Sounds There will be music, singing, and some louder noises, like a siren, in the play. I will always be warned with the glow wand in advance, and I can cover my ears or put on headphones if I want.

14 Actors There are 9 actors in this play. The actors are wearing costumes and are pretending to be characters.

15 Trixie Trixie is only 16 months old, but she is played by an older actor. She speaks using sounds rather than words.

16 Dad Dad is Trixie s father. He wants prove that he is a super dad, so he tries taking Trixie to the laundromat with him.

17 Mom Mom is Trixie s mother. She always seems to know how to fix any problem Trixie is having.

18 Ensemble There are 6 other actors you will see come on stage. They play a lot of different roles in the show. Sometimes they will even dance, sing, or play instruments.

19 Puppets There are many puppets in this play, and one is named Laundry Monster. Laundry Monster is operated by multiple actors. One actor who plays Laundry Monster stands on paint buckets and wears a large mask made of socks. Laundry Monster is pretend and will not touch me.

20 Meet Laundry Monster If I am feeling a little nervous about Laundry Monster I can imagineu@northwestern.edu. They would be happy to set up a meet and greet just for me with Laundry Monster before the show. Hopefully this will help make him a little less scary!

21 Clapping At the end of the play, the actors will come onto the stage and bow. The audience will start clapping. If the clapping is too loud, I can cover my ears.

22 Meet and Greet After the show, I can meet some of the actors and get their autographs in the theatre. I may even get to meet one of the puppets!

23 Study Guides In the lobby after the show, teaching artists will have study guides available for me to take home. A teaching artist will ask me if I want one. I can respond yes please or no thank you.

24 Going Home I will then exit the lobby and go home with my family.
