Was there ever a time period she wouldn t be considered different? What does this tell you about current day? 3 TUESDAY, May 9, 2017 QW: On page 110 (section 9), as Montag is burning things again And as before, it was good to burn, he felt himself gush out in the fire, snatch, rend, rip in half with flame, and put away the senseless problem. If there was no solution, well then now there was no problem, either. Fire was best for everything. How is this fire different from the first page when Montag is burning things? 22 FRIDAY, May 12, 2017 Log in to Socrative: Quiz over Chapter 3: Burning Bright QW Professor Faber says (in section 7) Mr. Montag, you are looking at a coward. I saw the way things were going, a long time back. I said nothing. I m one of the innocents who could have spoken up and out when no one would listen to the guilty, but I did not speak and thus became guilty myself. And when finally they set the structure to burn the books, using firemen, I grunted a few times and subsided, for there were no others grunting or yelling with me, by then. Why is this important? 23 FRIDAY, May 12, ELA Fahrenheit 451 test Wednesday (5/17) of next week QW: Pick up a book speech analysis graphic organizer. Speeches are at your table. Re-read the speech at your table: Seats 1 and 3 will read Beatty s speech and seats 2 and 4 will read Faber s speech. You will be working on your own so your work should not be the same as anyone else s work. Then, create a visual on the book handout where you analyze the speech by doing all of the following: 1. What does this character say about books? a. Write down 3 quotes that you can picture in your mind (imagery). (Be sure to use quotation marks.) b. Draw 3 images that portray what each of the 3 quotes say. 2. What type of figurative language does this character use? a. Write down 3 quotes that contain figurative language (simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole)(3 different quotes than the other ones you already used) b. Identify what type of figurative language it is. (You have a figurative language handout in your Writer s Notebook to remind you what each one means). c. Draw 3 pictures that show the figurative language you identified 3. Write a theme statement for the speech (find some big ideas that are repeated throughout the speech and write a theme statement about one of them). *Remember, it should be a complete idea not just one or two words! (ex: Trust your leaders but also think for yourself) 4. Be sure to use color!

Identify what type of literary device it is. (You have a literary devices & a figurative language handout in your Writer s Notebook to remind you what each one means). c. Draw 3 pictures that show the literary devices that you identified 3.
