1 Session 1 Skit Script Leader: This (week) we get to meet some very special characters who will help us understand more about making good choices as they travel through SonWorld Adventure Park. Today we ll talk about how we can all choose to believe that Jesus is God s promised Savior. Let s see what our SonWorld friends choose to believe today. Let the adventure begin! (Leader exits stage. Lower lights. At a low volume, play the instrumental split-track of Choose Jesus on a continuous loop during skit.) (Characters take their places in front of the sign for their respective lands: Dusty in front of Wild West World; Flora Rose holding William in front of Storybook Kingdom; Captain in front of Doubloon Lagoon; Skip in front of Galactic Zone. Play music as lights come on. Characters are all moving and speaking mechanically, all at the same time. When done, they repeat their lines and motions over and over until lights are lowered. Extras enter from both sides of the stage, walk across stage looking at characters as if they were park guests and then exit.) Captain: (Waving sword.) Away, ye scurvy scoundrels! William: Ribbit! Ribbit! Flora Rose: (Bending to kiss frog.) Dreams really do come true! (Flora Rose stops just short of kissing William and stands straight again.) Skip: (Mechanically rotates side to side and raises arm in emphasis.) To boldly reach for the stars! Dusty: (Playing guitar and singing off-key.) Home, home on the stage! (Realizes his mistake.) I mean, range! (After a few moments we hear an offstage voice. Thank you for visiting SonWorld

2 Adventure Park. Our park is now closed. Please make your way to the nearest exit. The characters freeze in position as soon as the voice is heard. Lower volume on CD until music stops. Extras are moved offstage by volunteers posing as SonWorld Adventure Park employees. Once stage is empty, lights are lowered a moment as Dusty quietly exits stage, unnoticed by other characters. Lights rise and characters tentatively begin to move.) Skip: (Dropping his brave posture he slumps timidly.) Flora Rose, have the visiting aliens left the quadrant? Flora Rose: Yes, the park guests have all gone. (As they talk, the characters begin to stretch their arms, legs, necks, etc. Working out the kinks of spending the day doing repetitive motions.) William: (To Flora Rose.) Well, Your Highness, now that we re alone, how about that smooch? Flora Rose: Eeeww! William, haven t I made it perfectly clear I do NOT want to kiss you? Captain: (Puts his sword in scabbard.) Aw, poppet, why don t ye give the little green creature a peck? Sure n he s been waitin long enough. William: Fifty years of ALMOST being kissed every minute is a VERY long time. Flora Rose: (Turning to Captain and speaking primly.) Captain Blackbird, if you please! Why don t you find that crew of yours and mind your own business? Captain: Now you know I don t like me crew! They re a bunch of dirty mean pirates. Skip: Excuse me, but aren t YOU supposed to be a dirty mean pirate? Captain: (Blustering.) Well, Mr. Skip Truheart, of the fancy-dancy spacesuit!

3 Maybe I m SUPPOSED to be a dirty mean pirate, but what if I choose to be something different? William: Do you know a lot of amusement-park characters who get to CHOOSE what they do? If so, sign me up! And then sign up a princess who chooses to kiss! (Flora Rose pinches William s foot.) YOUCH! I d hop away if you hadn t just mangled my foot! Skip: Well, if I could choose anything right now, it would be to NOT have to listen to Dusty Chaps mangle that cowboy song of his even one more time! Sorry, Dusty, but I just... (Turns to speak to Dusty and discovers he s not there.) Dusty? (He looks around in confusion. Left, then right, then under each shoe. The others begin looking for Dusty, too.) Flora Rose: (Concerned.) Where s Dusty? Captain: (Calling out.) Where ye be, matey? William: He s gone! What could have happened? Skip: (A thought startles him so much that he jumps, wide-eyed.) Maybe he was kidnapped! Captain: Aye, now yer thinkin... It was probably One-Eyed Jake, me fellow buccaneer. He s a no-good scalawag, he is! Flora Rose: But if anyone was going to be kidnapped, doesn t it make sense they would kidnap me? After all, I am the PRINCESS... Skip: (Gasps.) Maybe he got sucked into a black hole! (The others turn to look at him, disdainfully. He continues, defensively.) Hey, those are dangerous! It could happen... (The others look at each other, shake their heads and return to their conversation. Skip hangs his head.)

4 Captain: Mayhaps a park guest took im home as a souvenir! Flora Rose: Eeeww, park guests... (She shudders.) They re always touching me with their grubby hands, messing up my dress! William: Hey, at least they don t stick their hands in your mouth to see if you bite! Captain: I m doubtin a park guest could lift him. He s one o the oldest animatronic folk here. He s made o steel and that s mighty heavy. Heavier than me treasure chest full o doubloons! William: Hey, if you ve got a treasure chest of doubloons, maybe I should kidnap you! Skip: (Another thought has spooked him.) Maybe Dusty is being replaced! Like Captain Blackbird says, his technology is obsolete. (He jumps as yet another thought startles him.) Maybe we re ALL being replaced! Flora Rose: They wouldn t replace Dusty! He s one of the most popular characters in all of SonWorld Adventure Park. Skip: (Near hysteria.) But maybe they re putting him in storage! Maybe they re shutting down the park and we re ALL going into storage! (This thought is so terrifying they all pause a moment and consider it.) William: (Shaking his head as if to clear it.) Well, one thing s for sure, we re not doing anything but scaring ourselves! I think we should find Dusty and figure out what s going on. Captain: Yer right, me fine web-footed matey! Let s be off to his home, Wild West World. Sure n if there be news to be had about Dusty, it ll be there. Skip: But aren t there gunslingers and wild broncos in Wild West World? What

5 if the buffalo stampede? What if a bull attacks? Flora Rose: Well, what if we don t find Dusty? We ll never know what s going on! William: That s right! We really don t have any choice in the matter. Skip: Well, if I don t have any choice then I don t have any choice. I ll go. Captain: Then let s set sail for Wild West World! (He raises his sword and leads the others offstage.) Never fear, Dusty! Where er ye be, we ll find ye and set ye back in yer proper place before the park opens in the mornin! (They exit.) Leader: (Enters stage as lights come up.) I wonder what happened to Dusty Chaps. The others believe something has happened to him maybe something bad! And so they ve taken action based on what they believe. Dusty, Skip, Captain Blackbird, Flora Rose and William are pretend characters who were made up to help us have fun learning some important things. But every day we re going to stop pretending for a while to learn some things that are really true. All during VBS, we re going to talk about different choices we can make. We all make choices according to what we believe. Today we re going to talk about how important it is to believe the truth the truth about Jesus.
