2 THE SCHOOL FOR THE CREATIVE & PERFORMING ARTS 6 th Grade Summer Reading 2018 Dear students and parents/guardians, As this school year comes to an end, we are already gearing up for next year. We are excited to be a part of the team here at SCPA, and we look forward to getting to know everyone better over the next year. We will introduce ourselves more in August. For now, we want to set you up for success with your summer reading assignment, so that we can have a great start to your sixth grade year. All incoming sixth grade students will read TWO books over the summer. All students are required to read Holes by Louis Sachar and Out of My Mind by Sharon M. Draper. Please note that summer reading is a requirement that significantly affects first quarter grades. Excuses about not being able to find the books or not having time to read will NOT be accepted. Books can be found at many public libraries, book stores, and online. Joseph-Beth Booksellers and Barnes and Nobles are good choices for new books, and may be able to special-order books if stock runs out in stores. Inexpensive books can often be found at or at Half Price Books. Please read all of the following information carefully. If you have any questions over the summer, please one of us.
