ACTIVADOR COGNITIVO 1. Make a word search puzzle using 5 nationalities, 5 adjectives, 5 jobs and 5 verbs. 2. Liar! Someone stole my phone yesterday between 6 and 8pm. I think it was you, or someone you know. You have to remember what you and your friends and family were doing yesterday between 6:00pm and 8:00pm. If you can remember everything, you re not lying. If you can t remember everything, you re a liar! You have 30 seconds to remember your card. Then, give your card to the questioner(s). Example card: Say: You: were studying Your sister: was hanging out with her friends Your brother: was watching a movie Your friends: were having dinner Your parents: were working I was studying She was hanging out with her friends. He was watching a movie They were having dinner. They were working. A: What were you doing yesterday between 6 and 8pm? Accused: I was studying. B: What was your sister doing? Accused: She was hanging out with her friends. C: What was your brother doing? Accused: He was having dinner. A, B, C: Liar! 3. Partner Activity What were you doing...? Nueva Información: Forming the Past Continuous Tense To form the verb in the Past Continuous Tense you need the correct form of to be (was or were) and the ing (Gerund) form of the verb. I He She It You We They was were reading a book. watching TV. going to the cinema. playing basketball. raining. Spelling rules 1) Mostly the verb gets an ing in the Present Continuous Tense. E.g.: starting, playing, looking, skiing 2) If the verb is monosyllabic, it ends with a vowel + consonant, and the vowel is short (pronunciation) then the consonant at the end of the verb doubles. E.g.: run running 3) If the verb ends with l, it doubles. E.g.: travel travelling 4) If the verb is multisyllabic, and 2 nd point holds true of the last syllable then the consonant at the end of the verb doubles. E.g.: permit, admit 5) If the verb ends with a mute e, you have to leave it out. E.g.: make making 6) There are verbs ending with ie, like lie. In the Gerund form the ie changes into y. e.g.: lie lying Other verbs: die, outlie, tie, untie etc. For two things happening at the same time. He was playing computer games while she was watching TV. For things you were in the middle of doing when another thing happened. He was watching TV when Tom arrived. Exceptions There are some verbs that we don t use in the past continuous tense. (Because they aren t action verbs) e.g.: like, love, hate, smell, seem, believe, understand, realise, belong, know, want, need, depend, suppose Integración: 1. Imagine you were travelling to another country and in the hotel where you were staying strange things started to happen, make a friso using past continuous, pictures and sentences talking about the situations presented in the hotel. ACCESO A APLICACIÓN LA INFORMACION Recordación: FORM: We form the Past Continuous from the past tense of be (was/were) + -ing form. AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE INTERROGATIVE Mary Was studying. Mary and Sue were studying. Mary wasn t studying. Mary and Sue weren t studying. Was she studying? Were they studying? USE: We use the Past Continuous to say that something was in progress at a certain time in the past.

4 Example: At 5 o clock Mark was playing football with his friends. NOTE: Verbs of thinking and feeling usually do not use the Past Continuous but the Past Simple. E.g.: think, know, see, hear, like. I was writing a letter while you were reading. 1) Mum * vacuum-clean * while * dad * wash * the car. 2) The kids * draw * pictures * while * the parents * do * the gardening. 3) Eve and Dora * skip * the rope * while * the others * play * hide-and-seek. 4) Marge * lie * in the sun * while * Dave * swim * in the sea. 5) John * build * a sandcastle * while * his mum * solve * crossword puzzles. 6) Sally * colour * some pictures * while * her sister * paint * a tree. 7) I * eat * some biscuits * while * I * wait * for you. 8) The dog * sleep * under the bed * while * Sue * bake * a cake. 9) It * get * dark * while * I * talk * on the phone. 10) Tim * play * the piano * while * his parents * listen * to it. 11) Mandy * tidy * the room * while * mum * wash * the clothes. 12) We * do * the homework * while * dad * watch * a football match. 2. The case of the big hole in the flowerbed. Complete the conversation using the Past Continuous (affirmative, negative and interrogative forms) Aunt Martha got angry yesterday morning. She was watering the flowers in the garden when she noticed there was a big hole in the flowerbed. She said to herself, `my nephews were in the garden between nine and ten o clock yesterday I saw them from the dining room window. The flowerbed was fine at nine. What were the children doing here after nine o clock? Were they digging holes? I m going to find out.

5 II Aunt Martha plays the detective. Let s help Martha start her investigation talking to her gardener, Vincent, and her nephews about the kids activities yesterday morning. Martha: Hello, Sandra!... you and Sammy... 7 (play) near that flowerbed or... you... 8 (skip) near the gate?... you... 9 (hang up) the washing behind the tree? Sandra: No, aunt Martha. We (not hang up) the washing and we (not skip) near the gate. We (sit) under this tree here (read) a book and Sammy (listen) to music. Vincent couldn t see us. He (sleep) in the hammock. Write a scary story in small group, you have to take into account the following aspects: Describe the scene using past continuous. What happened next? How did you feel? What happened at the end? Write words Make pictures that describe different scenes of the story Present the story in a creative way I couldn t sleep. I was tossing and turning for hours. 8 Reflexión: Cada estudiante evalúa su proceso de aprendizaje durante el periodo teniendo en cuenta los siguientes desempeños. DESEMPEÑOS Completo oraciones usando correctamente el pasado continuo. 2. Elaboro frisos a partir de una situación dada y aplico el pasado continuo. 3. Organizo oraciones en pasado continuo correctamente. 4. Presento a través de una cartelera las actividades que realicé en mis vacaciones pasadas y las explico. 5. Elaboro en pequeño grupo una historia de miedo siguiendo algunos criterios. Regulación: La guía debe ser desarrollada en su totalidad en el aula de clases como trabajo autónomo de acuerdo a las indicaciones dadas. El tiempo estimado para la solución de la guía corresponde a 10 unidades didácticas.
