1 GRADE 7 FINAL DRAMA EXAM STUDY GUIDE CRITERION A Memorize Terms and Definitions Translation of drama from Ancient Greek Definitions of terms: drama (as a process and dramatic dictionary definition), theatre, genre, plot, improvisation, stimulus Two main dramatic categories (genres) and their definitions Three definitions of Mime: as a dramatic technique, as an artist and as a dramatic presentation Main rules of Improv Understand and recognize following definitions: Comedy Tragedy Melodrama Tragicomedy Monologue Dialogue Props Setting Scenery Director Actor Cast of Characters Acts Scene Script Directing and producing Students Adaptation of Matilda Genre of the play (justify the answer with supporting evidences of the genre) Brief summary of the play (characters and their objectives (goals), conflicts, main events) Production team members and their responsibilities (main cast performers, supporting characters, technical team) Technical elements used in the production (type of sound and light equipment, special effects) with examples of where they were used and for which purpose Design elements that were used on stage (stage set design and decorations, give examples of what stage set objects were used and how the set design was transformed from one scene to another) Main characters in the musical production and their traits

Character s catch phrase (the line that he/she says in the play which characterizes his/her personality)

3 CRITERION D Responding questions: 1. Think of how imagination helps you to create an Improv story. How can your imagination help you to communicate the message to an audience? How can your imagination help you to show the character s identity and his/her relationships with other characters? 2. 4 GRADE 7 FINAL DRAMA EXAM REVISION MEMORIZE Plot - the main events of a play in organized sequence (what happens in a story) Drama as a process: Drama is a whole process of creating and performing a play by actors in front of audience in present time. Dramatic dictionary definition: Drama is the present imitation of human relationships in crisis. Improvisation (Improv) is a spontaneous form of live theatre in which the actors perform in a suggested situation without or with very little preparation, while the plot, characters and dialogue of a scene are made up in the moment. Stimulus is a topic or theme suggested by audience which the actors use as a starting point for their improvised stories. In improv the actors create their spontaneous stories relating them to the given stimulus (suggested topic) Main rules of Improv: There is no right or wrong (believe it and act it out) Offer and Accept ( Yes, and.. one partner offers, others accept and continue) Change story s direction by offering new situation Keep Questions Direct Storytelling

5 UNDERSTAND and RECOGNIZE Comedy is a humorous play that contains a happy resolution. Tragedy is a play dealing with tragic events and having an unhappy ending Melodrama is a play which has very emotional story with stereotyped characters and music played throughout the performance. Tragicomedy is a play containing elements of both comedy and tragedy. Monologue is a long speech by one actor in a play Dialogue is a conversation between two or more characters Props (properties) are portable objects used on the set of a play Setting is the place or type of surroundings where something is positioned or where an event takes place. Scenery is the painted background used to represent natural features or other surroundings on stage. Director is a person in charge of the production who leads, oversees and coordinates the whole process and who collaborates with all members of a theatrical team Actor is a person whose profession is acting on stage, in movies or on television; Cast of Characters are all actors in a play; the team of actors who collaborate with one another as one theatrical body in order to create one theatrical work (performance) Acts are major divisions of drama which forms the basic structure of a performance. Scene is a subdivision or a part of an act of a play with a fixed setting and continuous time. Script is the written text of a play
