2 Monday (Day 1) 1 Discuss weekly goals Paper Four Squares One word story & Talking Ball Discussion about scripts A script is the text that guides the play Includes characters, lines, stage directions, props, costumes Discuss types of scripts Scripted plays Reader s theater/choral reading Story books Nursery rhymes Discuss commitment - Ask them to ask what their commitment level is Cold read 2-3 scripts Take notes on possible cast assignments Participants vote for which script they want to perform as a group Announce the script the group will use Snapshot & Five Senses Assign parts Develop back up cast Gather tomorrow s materials Plan out the set design Plan blocking Always have something for them to do. Keep them busy. Ball (op.) Link the warm up to the scriptanimal warm up for Caps for Sale, accents for a special show Variety of scripts in all types 2-3 scripts with multiple copies Dividing by age group-know your community How to choose your play-don t forget to think about the age spread when you choose your show 1 is a good length for a performance
3 Tuesday (Day 2) Individually, offer parts to participants and make final cast list Object (potato or theme- related) Talk to kids about their part, make sure you have a back-up plan. Potato Music 1 Character Space & Scarves 1 scarf per participant Announce cast list Prepare performance scripts 1 script per participant Each participant writes their name on their script, numbers their pages, Construction paper highlights their lines or stage directions, and tapes each paper to a Tape/glue piece of construction paper Highlighters Participant scripts Read through the script while sitting down Give notes on line delivery, tone of voice, volume, etc. Read through the script and add blocking Remind them to make notes on their script Talk about cheating and placement of script Gather scripts Family Portraits Phone, digital camera, polaroids, etc Gather materials for prop and set construction List out costume needs Prep and copy notes for what participants should bring for costume You can change with the scriptchange lines, change characters, etc. Make it work for you.
4 Wednesday (Day 3) Barnyard Families Selected objects 1 Magic Objects & Pass it on Find/create props and set pieces Includes backdrops, furniture, small objects, etc. Props and set pieces Don t forget to have a backstageif you don t have space for wings, Setup a prop table, or decide on prop placement If participants bring any materials, clearly mark each item with their name Materials needed for individual props and sets use chairs or dividers-need a way for characters to enter and exit the stage or performance space. Read through with props and set Setup set and props placed for top of the show As they read and move through their blocking, add props and encourage them to interact with the set as needed Remind them to take notes on their scripts Pull out specific spots that need more work for line delivery, blocking, eye contact, etc. Gather scripts, props, and set pieces Send home notes for what students should wear on performance day Build a machine Gather materials for costume construction Prep and copy family invitation Plan blocking for curtain call Scripts Set pieces Props Note template Pencil
5 Thursday (Day 4) Name Echo & Copy that Shape 1 Pasta Dance & Pantomime Find and create costume pieces Remind participants what to wear tomorrow If participants bring any materials, clearly mark each item with their name Block curtain call Pre-selected activities on paper slips Container Costume materials for individual script Read through with set, props, and costumes Set the stage for the top of the show Pull out specific spots that need more work for line delivery, blocking, eye contact, etc. Gather scripts, props, set pieces, and costumes Send home invitation for family to arrive early for performance Walk around the world Prep intro speech Prep curtain call speech Gather juice and cookies for tomorrow Prepare and print programs Props Set Costumes Scripts Invitations Costumes and props and scene design-simplify Awards! Oscar statute
6 Friday (Day 5) What s the order? & All together now Tongue twisters on 1 Tongue Twisters & Use or become paper Dress rehearsal Props Run the performance from beginning to end, including curtain call Set Make sure participants are hidden back stage as families arrive Costumes Scripts Prior to starting, thank families for attending and allowing their children Props to participate. Briefly explain the week and the work the participants Set have done. Costumes Live performance Scripts At curtain call, introduce each participant by name and character. Chairs or seating for audience Gather for juice and cookies Juice Cookies Napkins Cups Tear down set Return all borrowed materials to original owner
