The current location on Google Maps or a smartphone app may be incorrect. Charlcy Moczygemba, Theatre Director Timber Creek High School Cell Phone Office Phone FAX charlcy.moczygemba@kellerisd.net David Stevens, Director of Fine Arts Rachel Mattox Houston SPECIFIC INFORMATION NEEDING IMMEDIATE ATTENTION CALL THE CONTEST MANAGER Leave your name, phone number, school, play title, and the other advancing school and play title from your district so that preparations can be made for the area contest. Call SCRIPT Mail the original source cutting immediately to the adjudicator by Fed Ex or overnight express mail. Address the package to: Rachel Mattox Pepper Lane Houston, Tx / LIGHTING CUES You may FAX ( ) or (charlcy.moczygemba@kellerisd.net) your light cues no later than Monday, April 4. The cue sheets must list area, level, and speed of each cue. A sample template is located on the UIL website. You will receive confirmation that your cues have been received. Please contact Charlcy if you do not receive confirmation. This is no guarantee that your cues will be accurate. However, we will attempt to preprogram them in the system so all you have to do is make adjustments during your rehearsal. ELIGIBILITY NOTICE You do not need to mail an eligibility form due to the online system. HOWEVER, to aid in program preparation, please a word document with all the necessary program information to charlcy.moczygemba@kellerisd.net no later than Monday, April 4. The online system is not friendly to creating a program with a cast list names and this will greatly aid in the preparation and accuracy of the program.
2 AT THE REHEARSAL Entry Fee: The fee for each school participating in the area contest is $ to help cover expenses of the contest. Remit this fee by school check made payable to Timber Creek High School Theatre. A school will not be allowed to compete until the entry fee is paid. If a school has difficulty getting a check in the short time between the district and area contests, a letter from an authorized school administrator stating that the entry fee is being processed will suffice. In that case, mail the check (made payable to Timber Creek High School Theatre) to the attention of Charlcy Moczygemba, Theatre Director, Timber Creek High School, Timberland Blvd., Keller, TX PROOF OF ROYALTY PAYMENT, PUBLISHER S PERMISSION TO CUT, STATE UIL APPROVAL LETTERS, and the STANDARDS COMPLIANCE FORM (new this year). This includes documentation required for your performance such as permission for cutting long plays, play approval if the play is not on the approved list, letters of permission for additional scenery or any clarifications from the State UIL office and proof of royalty payment for the District competition. NEW - Please remember that rules REQUIRE that the director show the contest manager the Standards Compliance Form. The form is printed from the online system when your administrator approves the eligibility notice online and must be signed for each contest. CONTEST MANAGER S SCRIPT AND MUSIC CUE LOG Present a copy of the approved published original script, (in addition to the one you have provided for the judge), marked to reflect the exact performance text being used. Prepare a music cue log sheet of incidental sound/music, indicating the duration of each cue and the cumulative total. CONTEST SITE INFORMATION ABOUT THE FACILITIES STAGE AREA: The Timber Creek High School Auditorium has a proscenium stage with a rounded apron, which is a covered orchestra pit in front of the curtain line. A drawing with lighting areas and stage dimensions is included. The proscenium opening is 50 wide. The apron is a covered pit and is 18 deep to the grand drape from the center. The apron is curved. The stage is 30 deep from the curtain line to the cyclorama and back traveler. All curtains fly, travelers travel to the full stage openings, and legs travel up to 5 onstage from each side. The cyclorama may be used and will have a red, blue, green, and amber color wash. All schools have the option of setting and striking with the curtain open or closed because of the architectural necessity of the space. Schools may use the grand drape, mid-traveler, back traveler, and cyclorama. LIGHTING: The light booth is located in the back of the house. The light board is an ETC Ion. For more information go to: The lights are preset for twenty areas onstage. Each light area is approximately 12 in diameter. A knowledgeable light board operator will be present during your rehearsal and performance. Your crew may reprogram or adjust your cues during your rehearsal time or program the cues in if they were not pre-programmed. Each lighting area will correspond with a slider on the board and may be operated manually. A red and blue general color stage wash is available, however only from the curtain line and back. No color wash is available on the apron.
3 Two follow spots are available and contain various color gels. They are located in an area upstairs at the back of the house that is not connected to the light booth. Headsets with access to the booth, stage left, stage right, and both follow spots will be available. SOUND: There is a single disc, standard CD player available for your use located in the light booth. You may, and are encouraged, to bring your own portable system to be used backstage. Standard electrical plugs are available throughout the backstage area. Please bring ample extension cords for your equipment. SCENERY AND PROPS STORAGE: All items you bring may be stored in a locked area that will be your square for storage between the rehearsal and the contest. This is the scene shop area across the hallway from the stage. You are also encouraged to bring C-clamps necessary to secure your unit set items. Sand bag stage weights will be available for your use. SET UP AND STRIKE Your items will be stored in the scene shop. This is the area is stage right and noted on the stage diagram marked Overhead Door to Loading/Storage Area. All companies will be able to move their items to the overhead door on the stage right side of the stage. The 7 minute set up will begin from that location. Strike off the stage will be out the double doors on the Stage Left side back wall into a hallway. It is preferred that each school load out props and scenery to the bus/truck immediately following the performance, if possible. Please clear dressing rooms immediately following the last show s performance. UNIT SET The basic UIL one-act play unit set will be available at the site and will be stored in the off stage left area as indicated on the diagram. One regular door, French door, and a window unit are available. You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own door and window units that your company is used to operating. DRESSING ROOMS Each school will have a dressing area assigned for their use during the contest. The dressing room can be used as a warm-up space and green room. Restrooms are located nearby. Please keep the restroom clean at all times. Each school may unload into their dressing room space the day of the contest. Access to your dressing room will not be available until contest day. Rooms are not equipped with make-up mirrors. Bring your own. Please keep and leave the dressing room clean and neat. Please load out your dressing room immediately following the final performance of the day and prior to the Awards ceremony (school performing last will be an exception.) FOOD AND RESTAURANTS There are typical beverage and snack machines available at the school. You are encouraged to bring your own to be stored in your dressing room. We ask that you not consume any food or beverages, other than water, in carpeted areas. Trash cans are provided in the dressing rooms. Please notify custodial staff of spills. 4 SCHEDULE Allow travel time for traffic jams or bad directions. This is a newly developed area and road signage and directions are not the easiest. Traffic is normally extremely congested between downtown Fort Worth and Keller at all times, as well as around the Grapevine/DFW airport area during rush hour and due to the ongoing construction. Please to arrive at least thirty minutes before the scheduled rehearsal time. REHEARSALS Rehearsals will not be held in performance order, but according to school distance with the closest schools rehearsing first and/or by request. Please call the contest manager so rehearsal times can be set. Plays will run back-to-back. Individual medals will be given to best actor and actress (2), all-star cast (8), honorable mention (8), outstanding technical crew (5). The critique is a very important part of the OAP process. Please be courteous, attentive, and receptive towards the judge and other casts. The critiques will be given according to geography with the farthest school being first. The two advancing shows will be critiqued last. Schools may leave immediately following their individual critique. ALTERNATES SERVING AS HOST CREW Each school s alternates will be utilized to work as the host crew at the contest site as dressing room callers and house crew; therefore they will be eligible to be in your dressing room anytime you are there, and may unload and load props, scenery, costumes, and makeup when they are not assigned to duties by the contest manager. They may not participate in any manner during the contest rehearsal or performance to assist the cast or crew. More information will be given at rehearsal time.
