2 OVERVIEW 3 Sails Jazz Fest Ocean County College s commitment to the Arts Within three years of opening its doors in 1964, Ocean County College (OCC) began enriching the cultural life of citizens through advancing arts education and delivering a variety of artistic performances. OCC s commitment to the arts continues and is reflected in our efforts to offer the community access to artistic events and performances of the highest caliber. In 2014, Ocean County College received its largest philanthropic gift from the Jay and Linda Grunin Foundation to expand and enhance the performing arts center on the Ocean County College campus. This gift has helped OCC increase and improve the range and quality of performances available in Ocean County and to surrounding areas. World-renowned performers and artists are coming to Ocean County College and the community has responded graciously! 3 Sails Jazz Festival Our intention is to make Ocean County College the destination for arts at the Jersey Shore. The 3 Sails Jazz Festival on June 12-13, 2015 is bringing in premiere jazz musicians, generating more interest in the arts at OCC, and elevating all of Ocean County by increasing tourism and travel to the area. This festival builds on the success of OCC s long-running Mid-Week Jazz Series and the well-attended and praised performance series held at the Grunin Center for the Arts. The festival will take place on the OCC campus in Toms River beginning with master classes for interested musicians and residents and a music concert starting on Friday afternoon going into the evening. The festival will continue with all day activities on Saturday, including performances by world renowned musicians who will draw audiences from all over the Mid-Atlantic region.

3 Performers The featured artists reflect different styles of jazz: classic, smooth, Latin, big band, funk, and contemporary. Paquito D Rivera Cuban born Latin Jazz legend and winner of 14 Grammy Awards Ellis and Delfeayo Marsalis Father and son duo known for traditional New Orleans Jazz T.S. Monk Chairman of the Thelonius Monk Institute Lavay Smith and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers San Francisco based jazz band Bernard Purdie featuring Frankie Cicala Legendary American drummer who has recorded with Aretha Franklin, Steely Dan and others; scheduled Master Class instructor in drumming Don Braden NJ based saxophonist and staff leader of the Jazz program at Harvard University Tuffus Zimbabwe Quartet Keyboardist for Saturday Night Live House Band DYAD Jazz duo honored as one of the top 50 jazz recording artists Blue Plate Special Local folk band with following in Northern New Jersey U.S. Navy Jazz Ensemble

4 Audience/Demographics The Jersey Shore is a popular tourist destination that draws thousands of visitors each year from across the country. The 3 Sails Music Fest occurs in June, which is known to be a high volume tourist time frame. Through planned multi-media marketing strategies, it is anticipated that the festival will attract audience members beyond the borders of New Jersey. In addition, OCC will promote the event within its own campus walls reaching out to faculty, staff, students and alumni. Artistic performances held in the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts draw public audiences from the Jersey Shore geographic area, including Ocean, Atlantic and Monmouth Counties as well as other regions of New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and the New York metropolitan area. The MidWeek Jazz series continues to experience growing audience participation from the surrounding area, and we anticipate that the midweek jazz events will serve as a springboard for attracting festival participants. In addition, our main stage performances have brought a higher visibility to the Jay and Linda Grunin Center for the Arts including the following artists during the 2014/15 season: Branford Marsalis, Sutton Foster, Bernie Williams, The Emerson String Quartet, and Chanticleer.
