Shibori Fabric Dyeing Join the upcycling trend and give an old textile item a new lease of life! Bring along your own plain item such as a pillowcase or tablecloth, and artist Jane Cannon will teach you the shibori-dyeing technique to transform it into something new. All materials provided. Skirt Pattern Making Learn to make a basic, straight skirt block pattern to your own measurements, and sew a mockup in calico with professional dressmaker Debbie Chubb. Perfect as a decoration for your home or as a unique Christmas gift. All materials provided. During this one-off session with Helen Mortimer, you ll learn the techniques required to make a variety of beautiful jewellery items to wear yourself, or give as gifts. All materials provided. 9 CREATIVE Be a part of the 2015 Festival of Light: Lantern Procession BEGINNER INTERMEDIATE ADVANCED Public Lantern Making Workshops Lantern Making For The Brave Festival Of Light: Lantern Procession Drop in with your family to make a lantern in one of our FREE workshops. Please allow an hour and a half to create your lantern. Make sure you bring your finished lantern along to the Festival of Light: Lantern Procession in December. Work with professional lantern makers and create a more elaborate lantern ready for this year s procession. This activity is very popular, so early booking is recommended! Join us for our annual Lantern Procession, a stunning winter event that brings the community together to celebrate the festive season. Join in or just admire the candle-lit procession as it travels along Northbrook Street to the Market Place and soak up the atmosphere. Film Competition The YCE are inviting local groups and individuals to enter short films based around the theme of Childhood/Memories, to be screened in the Corn Exchange s main auditorium and the chance of winning some great prizes. Come along to this red-carpet event and see the premiere of some great original work by people of all ages. 12 Join in and socialise TOGETHER Live & Lyrical Stitch & Chat Memory Café Share your talents in an amazing state-of-the-art touring amphitheatre! All acoustic acts are welcome whether it is spoken word, music comedy or magic - expect a welcoming atmosphere and an enjoyable evening of entertainment in a unique setting. Performers also get a free drink. This is our resident crafting group who meet twice a month. All are welcome; card-makers, knitters, stitchers, jewellery-makers, scrapbookers... whatever your craft bring along your projects, meet like-minded people and maybe even learn new crafting skills from another member. These friendly drop-in sessions are designed to provide support for people living with dementia and their carers. Sessions feature homemade cake, and activities led by professional artists. They are designed to encourage conversations, help stimulate the brain and enrich the lives of people living with dementia. 13 Arts and entertainment for everyone ACCESS Touch To See Dick Whittington We team up with Kingsclere-based charity Living Paintings each month to host a get-together for blind and visually impaired residents of West Berkshire. The group meet for a chat and a cup of tea, followed by a guided session with works of art using audio and tactile resources. We also invite local artists and guest speakers in to talk about their work. For Relaxed Screenings the film soundtrack volume is reduced and low lights are left on. It is fine for audience members to make noise or move around. 14 Visual and Performance Arts TOGETHER Expansion Exhibition Red Earth Site-Specific Workshop Presented by Studio 8, a group of 9 artists resident at. They work in a variety of media, and their exhibitions over a number of years have showcased an exciting range of work that responds to a new and contemporary theme each year. This year the theme is Expansion. This 5-day intensive will appeal to emerging and established artists, and professionals working in the arts world who are interested in extending their skills and practice in the context of outdoor installation/performance.
