I m pleased you re here to join us for a new season. The Top Job! won the honor of representing South Dakota at the Region V AACTFest to be held in Fargo next week. I couldn t be more proud of our ACT volunteers; they are the backbone of your community theatre. Thanks for coming and supporting our youth and adult actors. I ll explain more about the exciting AACTFest cycle just before the performance begins. This season brings many updates to ACT. When you purchased your ticket for this show you used a new web-based ticketing system by Vendini. It allows for tickets to be purchased online and printed at home. Unfortunately, that only applies to credit card sales at the moment. ACT member coupons still need to be redeemed at the box office at Kathleen s. By next season we hope to have the ability to redeem member coupons online as well. But don t worry, the box office will always be open at Kathleen s to help with your ticket purchases. Thanks to Kathy and all the wonderful ladies at Kathleen s. They ve been troopers learning the new computer system and they have done a great job. We appreciate your patience as we initiate the new online box office system. You ve already noticed your program is not the same and you have been seeing our season sponsors and advertisers on the screen and on the monitor in the lobby. With the new digital projector recently installed, we now have the capability to recognize supporters in a new way. This season is a test, and thanks to our sponsors and advertisers we have been able to get it off the ground for this first show of the 2013 season. Please let us know how you feel about the new sponsor / advertiser recognition. They are an important part of ACT and we sincerely appreciate their continued support and yours. It s Alive!, or it soon will be in Aberdeen. We just completed auditions for The New Mel Brook s Musical, Young Frankenstein, which is ready to start rehearsals for June production dates. Please join us for this madcap musical, which has recently been released to community theaters. We are happy to be one of the first, just like last season with Monty Python s Spamalot. Once again, thanks for coming and growing with ACT! Your Getting in the ACT, keeps us looking to the future. It s a bright future with your help and support. Thanks. James L. Walker FROM THE DIRECTOR Welcome to The Top Job! I am thrilled that you re here, and know you re going to love this show. There have only been a few shows over my career that I would do over and over again and never get tired of it; and it s rare to ever get that opportunity. The Top Job! is one of those shows. It was originally mounted last summer at the castle with the Storybook Land Theatre troupe. We were sad that we were done after only three performances. But then we had an opportunity to re-mount the show in January in a mini-tour of the Sioux Falls area with Sioux Falls Parks & Rec s Storyland Children s Theatre. And now, with a new cast, we offer it to you today as part of your main stage season, and part of the American Association of Community Theatre festival cycle. And it s still as much fun to perform today as it was last July! Some of you may be wondering why a kids show is part of the main stage season. To put it simply, they are the future of community theater. Evidence: Kyle Stugelmayer, the show s choreographer, and Emily Davis, the show s costumer, were both involved in Young People s Theatre (YPT) for many years. They have both grown up at ACT and are, in a sense, passing the torch to the next round of future ACT volunteers. I am also so very pleased at how the adult actors in this show have taken these young protégés under their wings. I m grateful that they treat their younger counterparts as equals on the stage; and their offstage rapport proves that community theater really is a second family! I can tell you that YPT kids are as talented, work as hard and are prepared to earn your respect as much as any of our adult actors. At the Dakota AACTFest in Fargo last month, we received several positive comments about the kids and how well they carried themselves both on and offstage. If I was their own father, I couldn t be prouder of them. I know they ll make you proud, too, as we get ready to represent you at the Region V AACTFest next week. Thank you so much for your support of ACT volunteers, of all ages. Brian T. Schultz 2 Aberdeen Community Theatre
