Uma Thurman plays the wife of Duroy's friend, a woman who is extremely involved and connected in the goingson of Parisian society and who helps Duroy in his ascent. Kristin Scott Thomas plays a socialite who falls for Duroy. On arrival, they discover that the hotel falls somewhat short of the romantic idyll promised in the brochure, but they are gradually won over by the ever optimistic young manager Sonny and embark on a new adverture. ONCE UPON A TIME IN ANATOLIA Mon 7 (6.30 f ) May Young Nuri Bilge Ceylan, Turkey, Bosnia Programmers & Herzegovina, 2011, 150min, PG, Choice Turkish with English subtitles In the dead of night, a group of men Customer - including a police commissioner, a Request prosecutor, a doctor and a murder suspect - drive through the Anatolian countryside, the serpentine roads and rolling hills lit only by the headlights of their cars. They are searching for a corpse, the victim of a brutal murder. The suspect, who claims he was drunk, can't remember where he buried the body. As the night draws on, details about the murder emerge and the investigators' own secrets and hypocrisies come to light. In the Anatolian steppes, nothing is what it seems; and when the body is found, the real questions begin.

But when the Prime Minister's overzealous press secretary latches on to it as a "good will" story, this unlikely team will put everything on the line and embark on an upstream journey of faith and fish to prove the impossible, possible. We are looking for people who have: An interest in actively selecting films for screening at the RBCFT An interest in learning about film from all around the world A desire to discuss films and the film industry To join, please send a request to join RBC Young Programmers Team on Facebook Northern Lights Saturday 12 May 10am - 12 noon Scotlands First Ever Mass Participation Documentary Film Northern Lights is a first in a lifetime mass participation film project funded by the Year Of Creative Scotland 2012, which aims to create a view of Scotland that goes beyond media stereotypes to reflect the lives, hopes and dreams of the people who live - or once lived - on these isles. In keeping with the overall concept of the Northern Lights project we are keen to encourage members of the public to record interesting and meaningful videos and we are not asking participants to produce finished films. We will then gather together all this footage and edit it into a unique, first in a lifetime, vision of Scotland in the Year The workshop will introduce participants to the project and project website brainstorm ideas around the 3 key Northern Lights questions: What can you see? What do you wish you had seen? DAMSELS IN DISTRESS Fri 25 (7.30) & Sat 26 (7.30) May Whit Stillman, USA, 2011, 99min, 12A Contains moderate sex references, language and suicide references A comedy about a trio of beautiful girls as they set out to revolutionize life at a grungy American university - the dynamic leader Violet, principled Rose and sexy Heather. They welcome transfer student Lily into their group which seeks to help severely depressed students with a programme of good hygiene and musical dance numbers. The girls become romantically entangled with a series of men, including smooth Charlie dreamboat Xavier and the mad frat pack of Frank and Thor, who threaten the girls' friendship and sanity. By chance he meets Samantha, who runs a hairdressing salon and agrees to let him stay with her at weekends. 7 IN DARKNESS Tue 29 (7.30) May Agnieszka Holland, Poland, Germany, France & Canada, 2011, 143min, 15, Polish with subtitles Based on a true story, Leopold Socha, a sewer worker and petty thief in Lvov, a Nazi occupied city in Poland, one day encounters a group of Jews trying to escape the liquidation of the ghetto. He hides them in the labyrinth of the town s sewers. What starts out as a straightforward and cynical business arrangement turns into something very unexpected, the unlikely alliance between Socha and the Jews as the enterprise seeps deeper into Socha s conscience. An extraordinary story of survival as the men, women and children all try to outwit certain death. One day, inexplicably, her zest for life and love is rekindled by a most unlikely source, her seemingly unexceptional, gauche, and average looking office subordinate, Markus. At first stunned by Nathalie s unexpected attention, Markus comes to gradually believe in her feelings and shifts into romantic high gear. As their relationship goes from awkward to genuinely loving, Nathalie and Markus will have to overcome a host of obstacles including everyone else s judgmental perceptions as well as their own self-doubts. KIZZY Thu 31 May (10.45 cc & 5.00) David Tilley, UK 1976, 180min Kizzy is a BBC production based on the children s story The Diddakoi written by Rumer Godden, who lived in Moniaive, Dumfriesshire from 1978 to This is the first public screening since its broadcast in The adaptation tells the moving story of orphaned traveller Kizzy and her trials and tribulations as she fights to be accepted by village gorgios (the gypsy word for those who live in brick ). As Kizzy s young teacher says: Children can be so cruel, and at its core this is a story of bullying and intolerance. In the course of events Kizzy s guardian Gran dies and her gypsy caravan home is burnt down. Kizzy then catches pneumonia, is threatened with being put into care, bullied and physically attacked and sees her beloved horse die of old age. Kizzy s themes include comments on the care system, tradition versus modernity, middle class snobbery and above all tolerance for - and indeed celebration of - difference and cultural diversity. There will be a comfort break half way through the screenings. Rumer Godden s daughter, Jane Murray-Flutter, will be present at both screenings and happy to answer any questions on an informal basis during the break.

8 MIRROR MIRROR Fri 1 (7.30) & Sat 2 (7.30) June Tarsem Singh, USA, 2012, 106min, PG A fresh and funny retelling of the Snow White legend, Mirror Mirror features breakout star Lily Collins as Snow White, a princess in exile, and Oscar -winner Julia Roberts as the evil Queen who ruthlessly rules her captured kingdom. Seven courageous rebel dwarfs join forces with Snow White as she fights to reclaim her birthright and win her Prince in this magical comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal. Working as a shoe-shiner he lives happily within the triangle of his favourite bar, his work, and his wife Arletty. Fate throws in his path an underage African immigrant refugee. Arletty at the same time gets seriously ill and Marcel has to rise against the cold wall of human indifference with his only weapon of innate optimism and the unwavering solidarity of the people of his quartier. Against him stands the blind machinery of the Western constitutionally governed state, represented by the police, moment by moment drawing closer to the refugee boy. It s time for Marcel to polish his shoes and reveal his teeth... DALAI LAMA RENAISSANCE Thu 7 (7.30) June Khashyar Darvich, USA, 2007, 83min Winner of 12 awards. The 14th Dalai Lama invited 40 of the West s leading, most innovative thinkers to his residence in the Himalayan Mountains of India to discuss the world s problems and how we can solve them. What transpired was unexpected and powerful, Narrated by Harrison Ford. and was captured by an 18-person 5-camera film crew. The film features Quantum Physicists Fred Alan Wolf and Amit Goswami ( What the Bleep Do We Know ), Michael Beckwith ( The Secret ), Revolutionary Social Scientist Jean Houston, and others. Beautifully filmed exotic scenery and Tibetan and Indian culture. The screening of this film will be followed by a Q&A session with Los Angeles-based Producer- Director Khashyar Darvich : During the Q&A, Khashyar Darvich will answer questions from the audience, as well as share his experience spending time with the Dalai Lama and what led to the transformational experience captured in this Documentary Film. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better and Barnabas has much to learn about the modern world of 1972 before he can help them. MOZART S SISTER Wed 20 (7.30) June René Féret, France, 2010, 120min, 12A Contains infrequent moderate sex and language, French with subtitles French drama re-imagining the life of Wolfgang Mozart s elder sister, Nannerl. Beginning in 1763, it follows the Mozart family s life on the road, travelling by coach from one royal court to the next. Wolfgang, is a young prodigy, but Nannerl is also accomplished as a singer, harpsichordist and violinist. Her father bows to social strictures for her own good, refusing to let her continue with the violin or compose. But Nannerl pushes against the limitations imposed on her gender. MONSIEUR LAZHAR Tue 26 (7.30) June Philippe Falardeau, Canada, 2011, 94min, ctbc, French with subtitles In Montreal, a 55 year old Algerian immigrant, Bachir Lazhar, is hired to replace an elementary school teacher who died tragically. The cultural gap between Bachir and his class is made immediately apparent when he gives them a dictation exercise that is beyond their reach. Little by little, he learns to better know this group of shaken but endearing children. While the class goes through the healing process, nobody in the school is aware of Bachir s painful past; nor do they suspect that he is at risk of being deported at any moment.

The Hullabaloo restaurant and museum on the first floor can be reached via a stair lift. The auditorium is fitted with a loop receiver which is suitable for people with hearing aids with a T switch.
