2 Dear Applicant, Congratulations on taking your first step toards being a part of the Golden Empire Drum Bugle Corps! I m very excited that you ant to join the corps, and I hope your audition experience is one that is informative, challenging, and ultimately positive! What this packet IS: The folloing audition packet ill provide you ith some preliminary info and/or exercises that ill help you prepare for the orkshop/auditions that ill take place soon. Some of these exercises ill be used all season, and others may only be used as supplemental material. You should become familiar ith the material but be ready for additional info at the orkshop. What this packet is NOT: This packet is not a comprehensive collection of the technique program you ill be learning this season. We ill supplement this ith more advanced exercises and of course a ealth of practical hands-on training throughout the season. We don t expect you to be able to perform this material perfectly at auditions. Drum corps is all about orking hard to be the best e can be and that is an ongoing process. 3 Thank you for your interest in the Golden Empire Drum Bugle Corps! This packet contains technique exercises that ill be used throughout the audition process. In addition, you should donload and prepare etudes #1 #2 for your instrument from the folloing links: Trumpet Mellophone (F Horn) Baritone/Euphonium TC Baritone/Euphonium BC Tuba Items to bring to audition camp. Audition Packet Gloves (or $2 to purchase a pair) Toel (tuba applicants only) Athletic Clothing (tennis shoes, shorts/seats, etc., NO JEANS) Water Jug Three ring binder / sheet protectors Mouthpiece Optional: Your personal/school brass instrument (as a backup) Optional: Folding music stand What the brass staff is looking for in a prospective Golden Empire member: Attitude Timing Tone Quality Technique Musicianship Athleticism Responsibility Before Audition Camp Work until you are comfortable ith all of the audition material. Use a metronome. Be able to mark time to all the audition material. During Audition Camp Keep in mind that you are auditioning at all times. Be professional. Be sure to ask questions if you are confused about anything you are being asked to play. Stay mentally engaged throughout the ENTIRE process.
