2 Audition Monologues for THREE MUSKETEERS Pick one monologue to memorize. Make it active, and interesting, and have fun!!! (NOTE: If you have a monologue you would like to use that is not on this sheet, no problem! Just check with Staggs first.) I am looking for the following: -Loud, clear, colorful voices -Expressive movement -Interesting physical and vocal character choices -Understanding and use of punctuation -Understanding and proper pronunciation of words -Outside of the box creative choices #1: Here. Take My sword. You ll need it. Use it well, to fight for justice. For justice, like mercy, is divine and deserves courage. Always stand up for what you believe in. Never back down unless you re wrong. If a man insults you, turn the other cheek. If he insults you again, kill him. Make courage your watchword. But courage is more than arms and legs. It takes courage to be yourself, so do it. Above all things, live a life of honor. Honor the people you love, the ideals you cherish and the man inside you. #2: We re almost to Paris, just a few more miles! I ll bet you re glad I came, aren t you. Thanks to me we didn t make one wrong turn, not a single one. Would you cheer up?! This is just the kind of adventure we dreamed about back in the garden, don t you remember?! Fighting justice. Hya! Hya! Defending the King and Queen. Hya! Hya! Hya! Now hurry up! And bring my bag! I want to meet some real musketeers and fall in love with one of them! #3: Well, I m afraid I lost the letter. I mean it was taken from me. By a man with one eye and a scar from here to here. And then this red-haired goddess kissed me at least I think she did I was feeling dizzy at the time. And then the man with the scar must have kicked me because I was very sore but I would have beaten him soundly in a fair fight, I promise you that. I have been a swordsman since I was six years old. Hya! #4: It s not just a game, you know. It s-it s-it s complicated. You have to concentrate. Look. King. Queen. Bishop. Knight, It s all about us, you see the King and the Queen: the Knight is the soldier, and the Bishop represents the church though he should be called the Cardinal, shouldn t he? Cardinal Richelieu. But you notice that he s below you in the hierarchy, not above you, and you ve got to remember that! #5: You re just not getting the hang of this. And it s not difficult. Let s try another question. Athos. Porthos. Aramis. I understand that they are friends of yours. That you assisted them last night regarding a disagreement with my personal guards. Oh, don t look so surprised. I know everything. Now, the fact is, I d like to speak with them, and I can never find them. Not when I want to. It s so silly. So: can you tell me where they are at the moment?

Conflicts: Part of the success of any production is the commitment and dependability of its cast/crew. Attendance at ALL rehearsals to which you are asked to attend, tech rehearsals, build days and performances is critical to that success. Please consider the following question carefully. It may be possible to plan for and schedule around certain absences, so please be as thorough as you can and discuss potential absences. Should you lie on your audition form, then you may be asked to leave the cast or be a part of the company in a different aspect that works appropriately with your schedule. What other activities are you committed to this Spring (work, extra-curricular, academic) and when do they meet? 3. What dates and times will you be unavailable (be specific)? FAVORITISM AND PRE-CASTING POLICY Under no circumstances does VALLEY THEATRE play favorites or pre-cast any productions. It is the philosophy of VALLEY THEATRE that every child, whether they are new to the program or a seasoned veteran, has a place in the drama program. Students are cast or placed based on their audition and ability to work well with others. Casting and placement decisions are not determined by what a student has done for VALLEY THEATRE in the past, although behavior in previous productions may be a factor. Casting and placement decisions are also not determined by what a student has done for any other arts education/community theatre organization in the past. Additionally, students are not cast based on what their parents/legal guardians do for the company. An audition is a clean slate for all students and we truly do our best to ensure that every child has a place in VALLEY THEATRE. This policy is strictly enforced. There will be a panel of auditors helping cast all productions, as well as a detailed audition rubric that a student may ask to see at the end of the audition process through a consultation between teacher, parent and student. PARENT AND LEGAL GUARDIAN CONTRACT: PARENTS In order for your child to participate in the school s production, it not only a big commitment for your child, but it is also a commitment for you too. VALLEY THEATRE cannot put on a great performance without the continued support, spirit of volunteerism and commitment from you, the parent/legal guardian. Therefore, we will have 1 MANDATORY PARENT/STUDENT MEETINGS FOR THE ENTIRE COMPANY including parents of actors and tech on: on: Monday, January 25, from 7pm-8pm (attendance taken) At this meeting, you will receive a packet that must be filled out entirely and completed before the end of the evening. Each student/parent will receive a packet with their name on the packet and attendance will be taken. It is our expectation that each parent sign up for at least one committee. Whether it is ticket sales, concessional sales, set construction, costume construction, parent monitors etc. If you are unable to make it to the parent meeting, then you agree, by signing below to schedule an appointment with Mr. Staggs and Mrs. Poirer (Booster President). PARENTS AND STUDENTS: By signing below you agree to uphold your academic achievements as well as make a commitment to attending all rehearsals, parent meetings, and pay the required non-refundable production fee by your audition date.. If you miss 2 or more rehearsals that you are called to attend, whether unexcused or excused, you may be excused from the cast.
