5 Beyond the Trenches : songs from the first world war at home and abroad Wednesday 8 th November 2017 Hartley Hall at 8pm for 8.15pm Members of the Tonic Choir will be giving us a preview of their latest concert which is due for performance at Bentley Priory Museum on Saturday November 11 th. Beyond the Trenches was commissioned by the Museum as a finale to their current exhibition Dowding and WW1: The making of a Commander. The concert, which lasts about an hour, includes songs from the first world war alongside songs from The programme also includes two new songs on the subject of WW1. Tickets, at 4.00, will be available at the 19 October Monthly Meeting.

We certainly know that some of you can sing, tap dance, tell (tall?) stories, do conjuring tricks; and we believe that's not all you can do! 11 NEW: COLLECTORS INTEREST GROUP This new Group intends to talk about and show things which members collect and how/why they started. Also to explain and exchange ideas about members collections which could be anything, e.g. stamps, coins, postcards, porcelain, glass, cigarette cards, records, books, model cars/trains, walking sticks, jewellery and so on. It might even inspire some to start collecting. The Group Leader, Stuart Trogal, plans to start on Tuesday 9 th January 2018, with subsequent meetings initially on 6 th February and 13 th March. Meeting will start at 3 p.m, lasting 1½ to 2 hours. The first meeting will be at Stuart s home and will subsequently be held in Members homes. 12 CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIRS AROUND LONDON. The lowdown on Christmas Craft Fairs from our Craft Guru on the Outings Team! Although we are not organising an Outing as such, maybe some of you would like to get together to visit a festive craft fair. Here are some pointers to London s best fairs which can be reached by public transport Oct - 5 Nov: Spirit of Christmas Fair at Olympia I've never been to this personally but I understand from friends that it is worth a visit. The entry price would put me off! November: Country Living Fair at the Business Design Centre in Islington and best to book ahead. I have been to this and also the one held in the Spring. Pricey admission but I have always found it fantastic Nov-1 Jan: Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park - free. Great for families but not the sort of craft fair that I particularly favour Nov-3 Jan: London Bridge Tudor Markets - stalls in street. Might be worth a look Dec: Chelsea Christmas Craft Fair at Chelsea Old Town Hall - free. Have never been to this fair but regularly go to the Desire Exhibitions held twice a year - best jewellery in Britain outside Bond Street! Dec: Renegade Craft Fair at the Old Truman Brewery in Brick Lane. Looks interesting and seems very avant garde. Cannot find info on prices so maybe it s free! AND ONE OUTSIDE LONDON WHICH IS WORTH A VISIT, My must visit is Hatfield House Frost Fair Nov - 8 admission and free parking. I have always managed to find lots of reasonably priced gifts here.
