If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask for feedback. 3

4 ANG Expressing Feelings and Opinions Final Project 2: Responding to Feedback Your teacher or tutor will evaluate this final project for Chapter 2. Make sure you do the work completely and seriously. There are two parts to this final project: a preparation and a written part. The table used to evaluate the written part is below. You can use a dictionary, your Reference Booklet and any other notes you have. Ready? Here s the situation: You and some friends organized a film festival in your region. Following the event, you receive a lot of feedback from those who attended. Your friends select you to respond in writing. Part 1: Preparing A. Read the comments from five of the people. For each of the texts, find the facts, feelings, opinions, and expectations. Use the table at the end of the texts. Use note form Text #1: The first comments you receive appear in your inbox from an angry participant. Here s what he had to say: To: Festival Organizer From: Bernard Prescott Subject: Never Again Dear Sir, Madam: I was a participant in this year s film festival. My movie The Supper Club was a finalist in the comedy category. I must say I am very disappointed with the organization. As a director, I was given no special privileges. I had to sit with the rest of the general population at the screening of my own movie. There was no presentation of the cast or crew to the moviegoers. It s as if we did not even exist. I was at least expecting free tickets or something. But no, I had to pay for my ticket as well as my wife s. It was very frustrating. Furthermore, there were delays of all kinds. My movie was supposed to start at 7:00 p.m., but it didn t begin until 7:40. I was surprised by this, but also by the fact that no one apologized for the wait or anything. You should have more consideration for the festival-goers. I doubt I will be back next year. Bernard Prescott 4

5 Final Project 2 Text #2: Another person who attended the festival sent you a letter by regular mail. Film Festival Organizers 133 Rodeo Way Brownsville (Ontario) Dear Sir, Madam: I recently attended your film festival. I have to say I didn t expect much of a small local film festival. I thought it would be a bunch of nobodies with really lowbudget movies. I was totally wrong. I went to see four movies, and they were all excellent. I discovered new talents it was great. I was also flabbergasted by all the people it attracted. The cinema was always full. All in all, you did a wonderful job, and I hope the festival will be back next year. Congratulations, Rob Kenty Text #3: You had left a satisfaction and comments form for all participants to fill in at the end of the festival. Read one of them. Name: Sandra Lasnier CLIENT SATISFACTION FORM Please let us know how we did! Age: 22 Event: Film Festival Title(s) of movie(s) I attended during the festival: Last Thursday Night, Cat-a-tonic, The Dance Crisis Comments: On a scale of 1 to 10, I would give the film festival a 7 because it was well organized. There were movies at three locations throughout the city, so it was accessible. The price was reasonable, much cheaper than what we re used to when we go to the movies. The movies were pretty good. I was thrilled to be able to actually meet one of the actors. Other comments: What I didn t like was that for all three movies I saw, there was always a delay. If there s one place you don t expect delays, it s the movies. I was frustrated at just having to sit there and wait. That should be changed next year. 5

6 ANG Expressing Feelings and Opinions Text #4: Your friend just sent you the link to a blog written by someone who attended the festival. ShowTimes by JoshuaThree Comments: Brownsville Film Festival The first ever BFF was held last weekend. Didn t attend? Make a note for next year it s a must! The selection of movies presented was just awesome! There were many different styles from comedies to dramas, science fiction to action. There was something for everyone! I had expected to see a lot of people for such an event in our city, but I m sure the attendance was way more than expected. The three cinemas with their total of 12 screens were always filled to capacity. That is exceptional for a first edition! The press got to meet many actors, directors, costume and set designers it was superb! I think fans were disappointed that they didn t get to meet the cast and crew at the movie screenings though. The only chance they got for that was at the awards ceremony the last day. I m looking forward to next year s festival; I hope to see you there. Text #5: The local newspaper also published an editorial about the film festival. First Edition of the BFF to Be the Last? This weekend I attended the first ever Brownsville Film Festival. What a total disaster! The festival opened with Ed Burns s critically acclaimed movie Last Flight. Ed Burns was in the room, and I had the chance to talk to him after the screening. Boy, was he furious! He came all the way from Los Angeles, and no one introduced him. He wasn t presented to the fans before or after his movie. That is a major faux pas for the BFF. Did the organizers even know he was there? There were movies at three locations throughout the city. That should have been a plus. However, more than once, there was a mixup with the movies. Staff had to run all the way across town to deliver the right movie to the right location. This resulted in numerous delays and mad moviegoers. Letters to the Editor The awards ceremony was awful. First, there should have been a category for the public. Normally at these things there are voting ballots, and moviegoers can vote after the movie they ve just seen. Not here. The so-called jury voted. I say so-called because it was never presented to us. We don t even know who voted for the movies! Journalists? The organizers themselves? We never found out. The awards ceremony lasted for one hour. It rewarded the best movie, actors, supporting actors, writers, you name it. The trophy? A cheap plastic statuette. I was embarrassed when famous actor Kevin Wringley dropped the statuette when he was walking off the stage and it actually broke! Ouch! So overall, it really stank. I don t see the festival happening again next year sorry. 6
