4 When shuld graduates arrive at the Albert Hall? Drs pen at am. Graduates can arrive any time between am and 1.00 pm but must register at the frnt desk first. Queues may frm at phtgraphy and gwning s d please allw plenty f time. Any graduates arriving t register after 1.00 pm will be t late t take part in the ceremny n-stage. N exceptins will be made! Yu and yur guests will be invited t take yur seats inside the hall at arund 1.15 pm. When can my guests arrive? If yur guests are meeting up with yu just fr the ceremny, we suggest that they shuld arrive at the Albert Hall at abut 1.00 pm. (If the weather is kind, the Sky Mirrr sculpture utside the Playhuse next dr is a cnvenient place t meet up). Guests will be invited t take their seats inside the hall at arund 1.15 pm. 5 What abut disabled access and parking? As an Edwardian heritage building, the Albert Hall s main entrance has several steps dwn frm street level t the fyer (see image - right). Level access is frm the rear entrance - just ff the Maid Marian Way rundabut - between the new Central Plice Statin and Ryal Bank f Sctland building (SATNAV: NG1 5AA). This can be used t drp ff/cllect nly. Parking is nt permitted in this area. Staff will be n duty at bth entrances t give assistance if required. Once inside, a lift gives access t all levels f the Albert Hall cmplex. Parking: disabled bays are available at the nearby NCP car parks at Munt Street (SATNAV: NG1 6HG) and St James s Street (SATNAV: NG1 6EY). When des the ceremny begin and when will it finish? The ceremny will begin prmptly at 2.00 pm. Based n previus years, it shuld finish between 3.30 and 3.45 pm. All graduates must arrive and register by 1.00 pm t take part in the ceremny. Guests shuld be seated by 1.45 pm at the very latest. Please nte: Latecmers will nt be admitted nce the ceremny has started. What happens when I arrive at the Albert Hall? Firstly, please check-in at the ncn desk in the entrance fyer and cllect yur individual seating card. This tells yu where yu must sit during the ceremny. It is essential that all graduates check-in s that everyne is seated in the right place and are presented n-stage and annunced in the crrect rder! All graduates must arrive and register by 1.00 pm t take part in the ceremny. Once checked-in, yu will then be directed t the gwning and phtgraphy areas. After this yu can meet up with fellw graduates, academic staff and guests befre the ceremny. Light refreshments will be n sale frm cash bars inside the Albert Hall. As part f the big day, many graduates chse t g ut fr lunch with their guests. There is a wide range f cafés and restaurants nearby t suit all pckets and tastes. 6 What shuld I wear? Graduatin is a frmal and traditinal ccasin as well as a celebratin. Whilst we dn t insist that yu hire an academic gwn and hat, we d expect all ncn graduates t lk smart and reserve the right t exclude anyne frm the ceremny if they are dressed inapprpriately. 11 When d I return my gwn? Nrmally, this will be immediately after the ceremny has ended. Where are the fficial phtgraphers? SUCCESS PHOTOGRAPHY will have their studis inside the Albert Hall cnference centre. Yu will be given directins nce yu have registered at the frnt desk and cllected yur gwn. Fr current prices and t rder, please check the SUCCESS PHOTOGRAPHY website: Shuld I have my fficial phtgraphs taken befre the ceremny? Yes please! The phtgraphic studis will be pen frm am until abut 1.30 pm when graduates and guests take their seats in the main auditrium. There may still be an pprtunity t have yur phtgraphs taken afterwards but this will depend n the exact finishing time f the ceremny. Hw des the Phtgraphic Studi wrk? Step 1 If yu've pre-rdered nline, g straight t the Pre-Order desk where yu'll be given a USB Stick. Otherwise, g t the sales area where yu can brwse the available prducts. Yu can then place an rder n the day with assistance frm SUCCESS staff. Step 2 Take yur USB stick with yu t a Studi and hand it t the phtgrapher. The phtgrapher will then take yur phts. Step 3 Once yur phts have been taken, yu will have the pprtunity t view the phts instantly and chse yur favurites. Once yu're happy, yur rder is cmplete! Althugh the Albert Hall is a large venue, we will use its full capacity and seating is strictly limited. We expect a high demand fr guest tickets and ptentially, it may sell ut. We cannt guarantee that everyne wh wishes t attend will be able t d s. Graduates are advised t register and bk guest tickets as early as pssible t avid disappintment. In fairness t all, guest ticket sales will be split int 2 bking perids: Bking perid 1: Mnday 26 September at 9.00 am t Friday 28 Octber at 5.00 pm (r until all tickets are sld) Bkings fr guest tickets will be initially restricted t a maximum f tw per graduate. 16 Can I get a ticket refund? Srry it is nt pssible t prvide a refund fr any unused tickets. Please make sure t rder the number f tickets yu will definitely need. Where d graduates sit? Graduate wheelchair spaces are available, which must be bked via the University Centre. Where d guests sit? Guest seating is in the tiered seating areas arund the edge f the Great Hall arena. All seats are unreserved (apart frm wheelchair/carer spaces). Yu must tell the University Centre if a wheelchair space is required, as numbers are strictly limited. Is there a dress cde fr guests? N, but as it is a frmal ccasin mst guests chse t dress smartly, (as if attending a wedding r similar celebratin). Guests f ur internatinal students are very welcme t wear traditinal dress if they wish. Can I bring a small child r baby? Graduatin day is f curse a special family ccasin. Our experience has shwn hwever, that small children ften becme tired, bred and restless as the traditinal nature f the ceremny is nt designed t appeal t yung nes. We find that even well-behaved children find it difficult t cpe and remain quiet all the way thrugh. Due t the length f the prceedings (arund 90 minutes with waiting time bth befre and after) we suggest that this event is prbably nt suitable fr the under 5s. If yu d decide t bring very yung children, we ask that ut f cnsideratin t ther graduates and guests, yu shuld escrt them frm the hall if they becme restless. 17 Can guests take phtgraphs and vide? Yes. Still and vide phtgraphy can be taken inside and utside the auditrium but, as a curtesy t thers, please d nt stand up r leave yur seat during the ceremny. Fr everyne s cmfrt and safety, stairs and gangways must be kept clear at all times. Mbile r electrnic devices As a curtesy t everyne, graduates and guests will be asked t switch ff r silence their devices and t refrain frm using them during the ceremny. Anyne using an audible device during the event will be asked t leave the auditrium. There are n restrictins utside the auditrium, and yu will have many pprtunities t selfie r use scial media hwever yu wish. Can arrangements be made fr graduates with special requirements? Yes. 18 When will I get my fficial certificate? If yu attend Graduatin, yu will receive yur fficial certificate and results transcript as yu leave the stage. Thse graduating 'in absentia' (nt in attendance) can chse t: (1) have their certificates sent by pst t the address held n the Cllege s database r: (2) cllect frm the University Centre at The Adams Building in the week fllwing the ceremny. An fficial frm f ID will be required. At the end f that week, any certificates still uncllected will be psted ut t the address held by the Cllege. Yur certificates and transcripts are valuable dcuments - please make sure t tell us where we need t pst yur certificate t r if yu will cllect in persn frm the University Centre. 19 What happens at Graduatin? If this is yur first Graduatin ceremny, here are sme ntes n what yu can expect: The ceremny will begin prmptly at 2.00 pm. All stand as the frmal prcessin f VIP guests, gvernrs, management and academic staff enters the auditrium; accmpanied by music specially cmpsed by ne f ur graduates fr the ccasin. Our new Chief Executive Officer - Jhn van de Laarscht - will pen the prceedings with a shrt speech f welcme. Next is the presentatin f degrees itself, fllwing the rder shwn in the suvenir prgramme. This is usually by academy, curse and then family name alphabetical rder. We nrmally seat everyne in this rder befrehand, s it s vital that yu d sit in yur reserved seat. We annunce the name f each graduand in turn. Escrted by ncn staff, yu g up the steps, crss the stage t shake hands with the Chief Executive and University Pr-Vice Chancellr, yur Head f Academy and lecturers. As yu leave the stage, yu will be given yur fficial certificate and results transcript and escrted back t yur seat. That s all there is t it! Traditin and prtcl states that yu shuld wear yur mrtar-bard hat when crssing the stage and at the start and finish f the ceremny. Cngratulatins. Yu are nw fficially a graduate! After all the degrees have been cnferred, we then present the Principal s Award, fllwed by the traditinal speech f thanks by ne f this year s graduates.
