1 A cinematic-musical dialogue Moments of Movement Moments of Movement tells stories of steps. Mundane steps to a Tokyo supermarket, a Berlin metro station, or an Istanbul ferry; and signiicant steps that change biographies, move populations around the world, and seek new ways. Right now, more people are on the road than ever before - 60 million souls looking for security and a better future. In an audio-visual performance with ilm, tap dance and live music Moments of Movement raises important questions to scrutinise the freedom or bondage of our own steps, to challenge media images with personal stories, and contrasting personal moments with the pictures of faceless masses on the move.

Finally the personalities of those refugees where highlighted, showing them as human beings in a way that everyone can relate to. I wish this performance to happen in every city of the world! Development A major element of the videoperformance are ilms that were created by refugees themselves. The participants show us their perspective and focus on one aspect in their biography.

3 Development A major element of the videoperformance are ilms that were created by refugees themselves. The participants show us their perspective and focus on one aspect in their biography. In Istanbul Eva Stotz focused on the crossroads between Syria and Europe. In a ilm workshop she taught refugees to make ilms about their decisive steps. The way in which you walk paints a strong picture of your life at that moment. What is in your backpack? Are you a refugee or a tourist? Steps can be a powerful forward motion, meaningless circles, joyful vacations, chaotic light or endless and painful way into an uncertain future. Understanding this can bring us closer to the possibility of a more generous and open relationship between humans from different directions. In their ilms the refugees tell of moments and steps that changed their lives. The individual stories, when closely examined, are universal in their human experience. The connection between the steps in the ilm and those of the tap dancer on the stage make an intense connection between the world outside and the present moment of the performance, bringing the audience powerfully into the stories that are told. For the irst performance in May 2016 Marije Nie created a living and dancing world of sound, mixing inluences from traditional and contemporary music together with guitarist Sarp Maden, saxophonist Korhan Futaci, percussionist Ediz Haizoglu, live sounddesigner Benjamin Jefferys and the Istanbul Mosaic Oriental Choir. For further performances in Turkey the popular turkish singer Şevval Sam has expressed her interest for a collaboration.

5 About Eva Stotz is a Berlin-based documentary director with a keen interest in global social phenomena. Her ilms Sollbruchstelle, Global Home and One Million Steps have been screened worldwide at ilm festivals and awarded several times (i.e. German TV Award, Advancement Award Filmweek Duisburg, Prize of DokumentArt, South by Southwest World Premiere, Best Experimental Film Bamberger Kurzilmtage, Jury Award FIFA Montréal, Audience Award Int. Film festival d Aubagne). Eva Stotz holds regular international documentary classes at institutes worldwide, such as Harvard University, Raindance Institute London, Bahçeşehir University. In 2015 she received the Tarabya scholarship of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Goethe Institut Istanbul. Marije Nie Marije Nie studied contemporary tap dance in Amsterdam and New York, expanding the impact of tap dance by using it in contemporary contexts in theater, ilm and the concert stage. She performs with international recording artists like Miriam Overlach (harp, DE), Nguyen Lê (guitar, FR), Han Bennink (drums, NL), Mehmet Polat (oud, TR), the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra (NL), the Beograd Filharmonija (SRB). She won the Dutch Jur Naessens Prize for innovation in music, and was awarded a Point Taken ilm budget with which she could realise her second short tap ilm Dancin the Camera. With Moments of Movement, Berlin ilmmaker Eva Stotz and Amsterdam tap dancer Marije Nie build on a successful cooperation in Istanbul. In summer 2013 they created One Million Steps - a ilm on the protest in the Gezi Park. This ilm was screened at more then forty festivals and awarded twelve times.
