It is the only festival in Italy dedicated to Irish film; it is supported by the Irish Film Institute, Culture Ireland, the Irish Film Board and Tourism Ireland and endorsed by the Embassy of Ireland in Italy. The creator and director of IRISHFILMFESTA is Susanna Pellis, a specialist in Irish cinema, and the festival is produced by the cultural association Archimedia. The festival is an opportunity to premier new Irish film in Italy and to celebrate Irish classics that have never been shown here. IRISHFILMFESTA screens feature length drama, documentaries, animation and TV series. We also have a competition for Irish short films. All screenings are in the original language with subtitles, admission is free and our programme includes meetings with special guests (directors, writers, actors etc.) debates and special events. Irish film production has increased significantly over the last thirty years but Irish films are rarely released in Italy and, when they do get distribution here, are often thought to be English or American. While Irish filmmakers such as Neil Jordan and Jim Sheridan have achieved international acclaim, IRISHFILMFESTA aims to explore more thoroughly Irish Cinema and emerging Irish Film talent and introduce this work to Italy. This is a vast park in the heart of the city very close to the famous Via Veneto. The Casa del Cinema is supported by the Italian Department of Cultural Politics and Historical Centre of Rome. It is directed by Caterina d'amico and managed by Zètema Progetto Cultura, both part of the Department of Culture, Art and Sport of the Lazio Region. Inaugurated in September 2004, the Casa del Cinema is a focal point of Roman cultural activities and each year hosts many screenings, conferences, debates and book launches, attracting a wide and varied public. The Casa del Cinema at Villa Borghese IRISHFILMFESTA 7 will be held in March 2014 coinciding with St Patrick's Day, Ireland's national holiday which falls on March 17th. The four-day programme will be dedicated to premiering Irish films in Italy, retrospective screenings and meetings with contemporary Irish filmmakers. THE AUDIENCE The IFF audience The IRISHFILMFESTA attracts people of all ages who have an interest in culture and a curiosity for new experiences and ideas. The core audience comes from the large Irish community in Rome and the loyal Casa del Cinema audience but the opportunity to see films that are difficult, if not impossible, to find elsewhere, attracts all lovers of film. Moreover, our lectures and masterclasses are attended by scholars and students from the schools of cinema. The Deluxe room, at the heart of the building, has state of the art sound and projection systems with high definition digital equipment. In total there are 225 seats. The Casa del Cinema also has a large exhibition space in the foyer next to the screening rooms. The public gathers here before each event and it is where sponsor materials such as stands, banners and flyers are displayed.
