1 CONTACT: Cindy Moran, Public Relations Director or THE PRESIDENTS ARE COMING! MILWAUKEE REPERTORY THEATER PRESENTS THE WORLD PREMIERE OF FIVE PRESIDENTS BY THE EMMY AWARD-WINNING WRITER RICK CLEVELAND February 23, 2015 [Milwaukee] Milwaukee Repertory Theater proudly presents the World Premiere of Five Presidents written by Emmy Award-winning writer Rick Cleveland (House of Cards, The West Wing, Six Feet Under, and Mad Men). The cast for Five Presidents includes Broadway and television veterans Mark Jacoby, Martin L Herault, Steve Sheridan, Jeff Steitzer, and Brit Whittle, along with Rep Associate Artist Reese Madigan. Directed by Artistic Director Mark Clements, the production is set to begin performances at the Quadracci Powerhouse on March 10, Opening night is Friday, March 13, 2015 and runs through April 5, Five Presidents is a co-production with Arizona Theatre Company. Originally commissioned by Milwaukee Repertory Theater as part of its new play development program, Five Presidents is a funny and incisive drama about the meeting of America s most exclusive club the ex-presidents. Obliged to gather together on the day of Richard Nixon s funeral, four exes and one current vent frustrations, revisit old grievances, and reveal the toll that it takes on any person foolish enough to seek the highest office in the land. The Presidents who gathered together for Nixon s funeral were Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, Jimmy Carter, George Bush, Sr., and Bill Clinton, who had only been in office for about a year, says Artistic Director Mark Clements. The play explores the presidency, how these men evolved over the years, and what extraordinary friendships develop between men who were often arch-enemies in office. Once they held the office of the presidency even though they were on disparate sides of the political fence they often became great allies. Five Presidents is interesting inasmuch as it isn t driven by a sequence of events; it s more an observation on the this very unique club called the presidency. Clements added, Rick Cleveland is an exciting voice in theater, TV, and film. Arizona audiences really responded to his new play I think our Milwaukee audiences will find it both extremely entertaining and insightful at the same time.
