1 NEWS RELEASE «Deux rives, une seule musique» A mega concert to celebrate the 400 th anniversary of the passage of Samuel de Champlain up the Ottawa River Gatineau, May 24, In 1613, Champlain sailed up the Ottawa River to reach Ile aux Allumettes, on his way to meet with the Chief of the Kitchisippinini (Those of the Great River) to secure permission to sail to the North Sea (James Bay). Four hundred years later, on June 29, 2013, Deux rives, une seule musique will greet thousands of visitors to Jacques Cartier Park, on the shores of the Ottawa River, the very same ones where Champlain once landed. This concert, which blends theatre arts and multimedia, will be hosted by singer Luce Dufault, a native of the Outaouais region. She will be joined on stage by a dazzling lineup of Francophone and Algonquin artists. Canadian astronaut Julie Payette and Véronic Dicaire will also be part of the celebrations, the former live from Washington, the second from Las Vegas. Maestro Luc Boivin will conduct the musicians of Belle et Bum. The ensemble will be accompanied by percussionnists and dancers from the Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg community. Directors Claire Duguay and Denis Bouchard promise us a spectacular show, with lighting and special effects by Mathieu Larivée from Lüz Studio, lighting engineer for, among others, the Cirque du soleil.

2 This show, staged outdoors June 29th starting at 8 p.m., at one of the most attractive sites in the area, will be FREE! Never before has the Outaouais hosted a concert of such a grand scale. The river tells its tale Deux rives, une seule musique recounts, in a both unique and spectacular way, Champlain s interaction with the country s first inhabitants. It celebrates the region s progress since Champlain travelled through the Outaouais. The great river tells the tale of its evolution and of the first encounters between the First Nations people and the great explorers. We will celebrate the meeting between Tessouat and Champlain. A 400 th to remember our roots and celebrate our history and our culture. Radio-Canada broadcast Radio-Canada is the official broadcaster of Deux rives, une seule musique. The Espace Franco Images agency will record the concert for subsequent airing on Radio-Canada TV on Saturday, August 3rd at 8 p.m. in Ottawa-Gatineau and Ontario, and on Sunday, September 1st at 7:30 p.m. throughout the network. A documentary entitled Samuel de Champlain : visionnaire du nouveau monde will be presented on Saturday, August 3rd at 9:30 p.m. in Ottawa-Gatineau and Ontario.
