Welcome to our 32nd Season! 27 is Encouraging Exploration Exploring the Future and the Past. I invite you to join us on this theatrical journey. Celebrate the power of theatre: to entertain, to bring people together, to nurture our character, to provide a public discourse that is central to our democracy, to add to our economy, to aid our education and our literacy, to meet a basic human need of storytelling, to create meaning through dialogue and metaphor, to empathize with our fellow human beings, to increase our listening skills, and to expand our connection to the larger world. WHY SUBSCRIBE: the opportunity to experience a full journey of diverse productions that entertain and offer thoughtful reflection on our shared humanity. I am very proud of the breadth of topics the season will address and how each production will provide a distinct theatrical experience. Stuart Ross FOREVER PLAID is an acclaimed musical that will take you back to the classic guy groups of the 95s. The Los Angeles Premiere of Thomas Gibbons UNCANNY VALLEY is a humorous yet chilling examination of artificial intelligence. Beth Henley s Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy CRIMES OF THE HEART is a touching look at the complicated relationships of three sisters. Lauren Gunderson s SILENT SKY is a Los Angeles Premiere about women s struggle for equality in the pursuit of scientific discovery. HOME, by Samm-Art Williams, is a brilliantly inventive Tonynominated play about a young black man s coming of age in America. I invite you to subscribe and share an experience that will undoubtedly entertain, surprise and challenge you. The theatre is a vital sanctuary for creating dialogue and subscribing offers you an opportunity to be part of the conversation. See you at the theatre! caryn desai Artistic Director/Producer

Popular musical chock-full of classic barbershop and 95s hits! By Stuart Ross Musical Arrangements by James Raitt will put a smile on your face, a hum in your throat and a tap to your feet. NY Post Once upon a time, there were four guys who discovered that they shared a love for music and then got together to become their idols The Four Freshmen, The Hi-Lo s and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of a family plumbing supply company, they became Forever Plaid. Songs include 5s classics Heart and Soul, Catch a Falling Star, Rags to Riches, Love is a Many Splendored Thing and more. Feb 5 Mar 5

Los Angeles Premiere A humorous and chilling jaunt into the future a fascinating scenario consider whether like the Tin Man, a manufactured being might actually someday possess a heart Washington Post By Thomas Gibbons Drawing on current research in artificial intelligence and robotics, UNCANNY VALLEY charts the relationship between Claire, a neuroscientist, and Julian, a nonbiological human. As Julian is born a few body parts at a time over the course of the play, Claire teaches him how to be as human as possible. UNCANNY VALLEY explores the painful divide between creator and creation, and how we are redefining what it means to be human in the twenty-first century. Apr 9 - May 7

Pulitzer Prize-winning Comedy NY Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play and Tony Award nominee for Best Play By Beth Henley a funhouse of perfect-pitch language and ever-accelerating misfortune New York Times Meg just left a man. Lenny never had a man. Babe just shot a man. Warm-hearted, irreverent, funny and touching, Beth Henley s first play examines the plight of three Mississippi sisters betrayed by their passions as each is forced to come to terms with her crimes of the heart. First presented by Actors Theatre of Louisville, then Off-Broadway, and then Broadway, it established Beth Henley as a major voice in American theatre. Jun 7 Jun 25

Los Angeles Premiere A luminating tribute to a real-life pioneer of astronomy and gender equality By Lauren Gunderson sheer magic bursts of smart, infectious humor. San Francisco Chronicle The true story of 9th-century astronomer Henrietta Swan Leavitt explores a woman s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries. When she begins to work at the Harvard Observatory, she isn t allowed to touch a telescope. Instead, she joins a group of women computers, charting the stars for a renowned male astronomer. Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers believe in both scientific and social progress, and their dedication changed the way we understand both the Heavens and Earth. Aug 23 Sep

Tony Award and Drama Desk nominee for Best Play BY SAMM-ART WILLIAMS... one of the happiest theatrical events of the season... Home is a play from the heart, about the heartline of America a play that all theatregoers should embrace. NY Times Brilliantly inventive and lyrically expressive, the action begins on a small South Carolina farm that orphan Cephus Miles has inherited from his family. Not believing in the Vietnam War, Cephus is imprisoned as a draft evader for refusing to serve. By the time he is released, Cephus has lost his land to the tax collector so he heads north to build a new life. With a good job and a slinky new girlfriend, he finds the big city exciting and rewarding. But soon after, Cephus loses his job and his way. He returns to South Carolina to find home. A joyous story of overcoming obstacles, two actors join Cephus on stage to play the many characters in his life. Oct 8 Nov 5
