1 AUDITIONS JANUARY 5 & 6, by appointment
2 FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE TO AUDITION? To audition for the full cast, you must be eight years old by the closing performance. If you have participated in five (5) or more IN PERFORMANCE classes, you may be eligible to audition for the full cast. YOUNGER THAN 8? Children ages 5-8, check out our IN PERFORMANCE: A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD KIDS class beginning in February. While you may not having speaking lines, you will still have an opportunity to be in the production. WHEN ARE THE AUDITIONS? Auditions are January 5 & 6, by appointment. DO I HAVE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO AUDITION? Yes. Either schedule your audition online at or call NCTC (6282). Appointments will last between 5-10 minutes. WHERE WILL THE AUDITIONS, REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES TAKE PLACE? NCTC Performing Arts Theatre located at 743 North Mountain Road in Newington. IʼVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE, CAN I STILL AUDITION? Yes! In each of our productions, we have both children who have had stage experience and children who have not. DO MY PARENTS/FRIENDS WATCH MY AUDITION? No. We ask that all family and friends wait in the lobby during your audition. You will audition for the director and stage manager. WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR MY AUDITION? Please make sure to fill out the audition form completely, attach a recent picture of yourself (size of picture doesnʼt matter-as long as we can see your face) and bring with you to your audition appointment. Please select one (1) monologue to memorize from this packet and a musical theatre song of your choice. Don t know any musical theatre songs? You can sing Happy Birthday or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star. ARE THERE CALLBACKS? No, there are no scheduled callbacks at this time. HOW MANY PEOPLE WILL BE CAST? WILL WE PERFORM IN ALL EIGHT (8) SHOWS? The cast will be between If the show is double cast, most will only perform in four (4) shows. The decision to double cast will be made after auditions. WHEN ARE THE PERFORMANCES? Performances are March (Fridays and Saturdays at 7pm and Saturdays and Sundays at 2pm). WHEN DO REHEARSALS BEGIN? Rehearsal will begin the week of January 8 (6-7:30) and run through March 15. Please review DATES (page 2). Make sure to write any conflicts/ potential conflicts that you may have with any of the rehearsal/performances dates. Once the show has been cast, a finalized rehearsal scheduled will be disseminated. We will NOT rehearse every day listed. If your child misses two unexplained absences, their role will be recast. WHAT IF I HAVE A COUPLE OF CONFLICTS WITH THE REHEARSAL DAYS/ PERFORMANCES? No worries! Please make sure to list all of your conflict/potential conflicts on your audition form. Even if your child is unable to make a performance, since we will most likely be double casting the show, he/she may still be able to be involved. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? There is NO COST TO AUDITION. If cast, there is a $275 participation fee. Payment plans are available. Claire at programs@nctcarts.org. ABOUT OUR PLAY A Year With Frog and Toad Kids Book and Lyrics By Willie Reale Music By Robert Reale Based on the Books by Arnold Lobel Directed by Christina Lobello Musically Directed by Andy Catanese This whimsical show follows two great friends the cheerful, popular Frog, and the rather grumpy Toad through four fun-filled seasons. Waking from hibernation, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons along the way. Throughout the year, two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special.
4 CHARACTERS FROG: Frog is a friendly, confidant, positive and caring character. This leading role requires a strong actor and singer. He should always seem comfortable solving Toad's problems and reacting to Toad's traumas. TOAD: Toad is serious, irritable, self-conscious yet an oddly charismatic character. The friendship that he shares with Frog must appear loyal through and through. TURTLE: Turtle is a "rabble-rouser" and loves to get the whole gang to tease Toad in fun! MOUSE: Mouse is always able to ask all the right questions like a talk-show host. Mouse, like Turtle, is full of fun and they should have a good chemistry because of their call/response dialogue and song. LIZARD: Lizard is definitely the most confused of the Turtle, Mouse, Lizard trio, but eventually joins in the fun. SNAIL: The Snail is simply unflappable, has a ton of personality and confidence. He (she) will deliver without fail "in the rain or sleet or snow." BIRDS: The Birds communicate the passage of time (seasons) and set the stage for the story to follow. MOLES: The Moles should have expressive faces to convey the excitement in Down The Hill as well as sincerity in their angelic solo Merry Almost Christmas. SQUIRRELS: The Squirrels are full of mischief and fun. YOUNG FROG, MOTHER FROG, FATHER FROG: They are in the dream sequence. LARGE and TERRIBLE TOAD (VOICE): Played by a puppet, the star of Frog s childhood nightmares MONOLOGUE Please select one to memorize to perform at your audition. TOAD Frog is late. At least I think she s late. She must be. It s already getting dark out. Maybe something happened to him. Something bad. Something terrible. Maybe he is lost in the dark, or stuck at the bottom of a hole, or being chased by a wolf! Frog may be in terrible danger. I must help my friend! I must get a light! (Picks up a lantern) a piece of rope, and a frying pan. Don t you worry, Frog. I will save you! I am prepared for any situation! Frog! Frog! Don t worry, I ll save you! YOUNG FROG I m a young little frog all alone in the night. My parents have left, which doesn t seem right. I am very afraid, that is how I feel. I don t wish do end up a meal. I think eating others is rude and I bet that it hurts being chewed! I have such ambitious dreams and wishes and none of my plans include not growing up because I wound up being food.
