2 GENERAL INFORMATION The most famous and most prestigious centre for drama training in the English speaking world, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art is one of London s artistic landmarks. Based in a modern, state-of-the-art facility in the West End, only minutes from Oxford Street and Tottenham Court Road, RADA benefits from a prime location. With five theatres, as well as numerous rehearsal and meeting rooms, RADA can make a top quality venue for any event from business training to press launches to full theatrical performance. You can enjoy support from our dedicated events team and our team of experienced and dedicated events staff. THEATRE INFORMATION The Jerwood Vanbrugh Theatre is RADA s largest venue with an audience capacity of 183 in standard configuration. The Vanbrugh is based on a never before built 17th century design by Inigo Jones but is a thoroughly modern, technically advanced theatre that received outstanding press appreciation when it opened in 2000 the culmination of a 32million rebuilding of RADA s historic site. The Jerwood Vanbrugh is a totally adaptable space which is suited to a variety of configurations including thrust and in-the-round performance as well as its standard proscenium set-up. It can be used for a very wide range of types of events, including: Drama & musical performance Corporate entertainment & events Press conferences & product launches Interviews, lectures & training Film & audio recording Concerts Private parties & business functions Dinner entertainment Private & public film screenings 2 Contact: +44 (0)

3 AUDIENCE CAPACITY (STANDARD CONFIGURATIONS) TOTAL SEATING: 183 STALLS: 83 STALLS CIRCLE: 49 DRESS CIRCLE: 51 Use of the orchestra pit or a thrust configuration reduces the stalls seating by 12 seats. A fully thrust (semiin-the-round) configuration removes all of the stalls seating, providing a maximum capacity of 100. The space can also be used as a dinner venue for up to 120 guests. Special arrangements need to be made for this configuration. The theatre can accommodate up to 8 wheelchair users but this requires the removal of fixed seats and therefore must be pre-arranged. In normal configuration the width is 7.5m. HEIGHT: Height of proscenium 5.5m Floor to max out height of fly bars 13.3m Floor to grid 13.8m Floor to underside of fly floor 7m WING SPACE: Stage Left: m Stage Right: m Wall to wall: 13.4m Wing space is dependent on the arrangement of the adjustable proscenium. DRESSING ROOM & SUPPORT FACILITIES There are two spacious dressing rooms. Each has natural light, make-up lighting, eight mirrors, wash basins and a shower as well as use of dedicated backstage toilet facilities (Four toilets, one accessible). 4 There is a stage management running room in the dressing room area with a sink and space for a hirer to set up tea and coffee making facilities if required (these are not provided as standard). BOX OFFICE & PROMOTION The RADA Box Office with its experienced box office staff is able to support and provide box office and registration facilities to any event taking place in our theatres. Where tickets are to be put on sale the Box Office Manager liaises directly with the hirer to arrange a mutually convenient date for sales to commence. Tickets can be purchased in person, over the phone or on the RADA website. All promotional material for events taking place at RADA including print advertising, online marketing and any other media must be approved prior to public distribution. Certain approved promotional material may be displayed in allocated areas of the RADA Box Office by arrangement. N.B. The RADA Box Office is the only approved box office service for RADA s theatres. Tickets to performances or other events taking place at RADA may not be sold through other channels. FRONT OF HOUSE FACILITIES On entering our public entrance on Malet Street, your audience or guests will feel welcomed by the relaxed and artistic atmosphere of RADA s Foyer and Bar area. The bar is fully licensed and stocks a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at competitive rates. Food is also served throughout the day and RADA s catering team is capable of providing a full catering service from afternoon tea to fully catered events. The foyer bar is available to hire privately for your event. The building is fully accessible for audience members, including a lift to all levels. 4 Contact: +44 (0)

5 TECHNICAL FACILITIES The Jerwood Vanbrugh is an extremely technically capable venue incorporating modern lighting, sound and stage management facilities. There are no additional charges for the use of most of RADA s extensive stock of lighting and sound equipment, whether they are set up by our own technicians or by your own technical team. LIGHTING & ELECTRICS CONTROL: ETC Gio There is comprehensive DMX and Ethernet distribution in the venue allowing control of devices in any area. DIMMERS: Strand EC90 dimming system 148 3kW Dimmers (1-54, ) 8 6kW Dimmers (55-58, ) 18 3kW Non-dim relays ( ) LANTERNS: We have a large stock of a wide range of generic equipment including Selecon Pacific profiles front of house, Strand Cantata Fresnels, Source 4s and various other equipment. Additional equipment including Vari*Lite moving lights and scrollers can be provided by arrangement. Please see our kit list for exact details of our current stock. POWER: 300amp 3phase for production lighting. 3 x 63amp 3phase. One each at grid, tension wire grid and substage. Can be switched down to 3 32amp single phase supplies at each location. If you wish to bring an event or performance to the space with a specific lighting design, we can supply you with a full equipment list and our technicians would be happy to pre-rig for you where this is arranged. There is a tension wire grid fitted FOH for easy access to light positions. This is rated for up to 7 people to use at any one time. Contact: +44 (0)

6 SOUND We provide an in house PA system for use by all hirers. An example of the set-up we will provide is detailed below (exact equipment and specification may differ unless you confirm specific needs in advance). Mixing facilities can be moved to the rear of the stalls where necessary but this does reduce the number of audience seats. A baby grand piano can be provided on stage or in the orchestra pit by arrangement, movement fees may be incurred as the piano is usually located within the foyer bar area. We do not stock any music stands but can source these for you if you require. STAGE MANAGEMENT A stage management desk which includes stage video feed, a communications master station, calls microphone and cue light control can be positioned in the wings stage right, stage left, in the lighting control room or at various positions around the venue. There is comprehensive distribution of cue lights, communications and video throughout the venue and supporting spaces. 6 Contact: +44 (0)

7 STAGE & SCENERY Get-in is via a goods lift (1.85m wide x 2.47m high x 7.5m long) from street level (Malet Street) to the stage. Space is available on the street for temporary loading/unloading but there are no free parking facilities during the day (parking on Malet Street after 6pm is currently free in some places). There are 34 counterweight fly bars (6 of these are double purchase) including 2 US-DS on stage left and stage right (of which both are double purchase). Loading capacity: 250kg per set Distance between bars: 200mm Bar Length: 8.8m We stock 10 Lodestar chain hoists, six are used on two advance trusses rigged front of house. STAGE INVENTORY We stock a large selection of soft goods and other items. SOFT GOODS: 1 x white cyclorama 1 x black gauze 1 x black serge full black 6 x black serge borders (9m x 2.5m) 10 x black serge soft legs (2.5m x 7.9m) We stock a set of blue house tabs which are not rigged as standard, if you wish to use them please arrange this prior to your get-in. Various other items can be made available please tell us your requirements. ROSTRA We stock a large quantity of steel deck that can be made available for your event by arrangement. FURNITURE A range of furniture can be provided by arrangement including items from RADA s extensive furniture collection in the props department. Please discuss your requirements with us for pricing information. ACCESS EQUIPMENT The theatre has access to one tallescope as well as various other ladders that are shared between the onsite venues. PLANS We can supply a set of paper ground plans for the venue by arrangement and for a small administrative fee. AutoCAD compatible plans can be provided on request. Contact: +44 (0)

A 25% deposit and signed hire agreement is required from the client to confirm all hires and events in our venues and must be received within 7 working days of the contract being issued. The balance of the contracted fee for theatre events is required by 24 hours prior to the commencement of the hire in most circumstances.
