1 1 AUDITION INFORMATION Alice in Wonderland, Jr. Dallastown Area Middle School 2018 Musical February 22-24, 2018 Please read through everything very carefully. Then, if you have any questions, don t hesitate to ask. Being punctual, prepared and well behaved is an important part of being a member of the cast. Acting/Singing/Dancing Audtions Everyone will participate in three separate auditions November 28, 29, 30, 2017 from 3:05pm-5:30 pm. In order to be considered you must complete ALL THREE PARTS of the audition (dancing, singing, & acting). Here is what you need to know: ACTING Prepare a second monlogue that showcases your best acting talents. You should memorize your monologue. Make sure you are very familiar with the content so you can get your head out of the script and show us some characterization, diction and projection. DANCING Everyone will be taught a simple dance routine from the dance choreographer for your dance audition. Once you learn the steps, you will perform in a small group. Everyone must wear comfortable clothes and shoes that you can dance/move in... no sandals or flip flops. If you want to be considered for a featured dancer, you should prepare a 30 secondone minute combination or series of tricks that you can perform for the choreographer. SINGING Each student should prepare the appropriate piece from the list below. It is highly recommended that songs be memorized. You should perform the song in character. Singing requirements: If you are auditioning for Alice, you must prepare Simon Says Pt 2 and Very Good Advice. All other students who are auditioning should choose one from the following list. I m Late OR How D ye Do and Shake Hands OR The Caucus Race *Practice Links can be found at the DAMS Drama Club website Audition Info Page.
2 2 THE AUDITION FORM You should complete an Audition Form and bring to the first day of auditions. CONFLICTS Be very specific about all of your conflicts. The role you are cast in will be based on your talent and your conflicts. PARENTS MUST ATTEND ONE OF THE PARENT MEETINGS: December 12 or December 14 to receive important information at 7 pm in the high school auditorium. MANDATORY REHEARSALS Mandatory rehearsals are indicated on the schedule page (highlighted). Please be advised that absences are not permitted during this time. A musical is not successful without every single member present. Consistency is important not just for accuracy of the production, but for safety as well. Mandatory rehearsals begin with Tech Day (weekend) and continues through production. DATES: Feb. 9 th Feb. 24 th Performance Dates: Thursday, Feb 22th 7:00pm Friday, Feb 23th 7:00pm Saturday, Feb 24th 2:00 and 7:00pm POLICY --- ATTENDANCE AT REHEARSAL We are only going to cast students who have enough free time to give us during the full rehearsal period. If you have many conflicts per week, consider if you have enough time for the production. We can work around schedules to a degree, but we need you as much as possible. Rehearsals are scheduled Mon., Wed., and Friday after school until 5:30. We have evening rehearsals on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15-8:30 Fill out the Audition Form and be very careful to include all of your known conflicts. If something new comes up during the rehearsal period, you must contact us, at least a week in advance. Monetary commitment: *Each cast member will need to provide a $30 Non-refundable participation fee (payable to DAMS). Please provide this fee payment at the PARENT MEETING. This fee covers (but not limited to): *Costume rentals (in some cases, students will keep parts or all of their costume) *Script (students may keep these) *Practice CD (students may keep these) *Make-up kits
3 3 CONTRACT I,, enthusiastically will accept my role in Dallastown Area Middle School s production of Alice in Wonderland, Jr. 1. I will attend all scheduled rehearsals unless I have previously cleared my absence with the directors. Missing THREE or more absences without permission from the director may result in being dismissed from the cast. 2. I will be prompt for all rehearsals and provide notes (when I have missed practice explaining my absence) to the student directors. (See calendar for dates and times.) 3. I understand that I may have rehearsals scheduled during days off from school. 4. I will plan now to rehearse daily, if called, from now until show time: February 22-24, I understand that I must arrive for school before 10:30 AM in order to participate in musical rehearsals and performances. 6. I will make good use of my own time while others are rehearsing, in order to give them the best atmosphere in which to attain the goals they are seeking. 7. I will spend personal time and energy learning my part in addition to actual directed rehearsal times. 8. I understand that it is my responsibility to help strike the set and turn in costumes and props after the last show on February I am willing to abide by the decisions of the directors, including altering my appearance to fit the assigned roles and characters. 10. I will allow the makeup artists to do my makeup so that it will be appropriate for the stage, or I will have my makeup approved by them. I may have to purchase make-up for myself. 11. I will be responsible for all costumes and props assigned to me, and will return them to their proper owners in the same or better condition in which they were received. 12. I will be responsible for the microphone assigned to me, and will secure it to its proper place. If I break or damage the microphone while in my care, I am responsible for paying for any damages or a replacement. 13. I will be able to take notes during rehearsal. These notes will include blocking, acting, singing and dancing. I will study my notes in order to improve. 14. I will be able to devote the required time and energy to the musical without jeopardizing my academic achievement. I understand that academic ineligibility will prevent my participation in the musical. 15. I understand that I will be dismissed from the musical for serious violation of school regulations. This includes illegal activities with respect to drugs and alcohol on or off school property, as well as results from random drug testing at school. 16. I understand the importance of teamwork and discipline in the performing arts, and will approach the problems of rehearsing and performing a complex musical with energy, cooperation and positivism. 17. I understand that by signing this contract, I am obligating myself to all the terms listed above and realize that this imposes on me a personal responsibility to fulfill these conditions.
