March Song of the Silence: Patrick Duff Patrick Duff brings his hauntingly beautiful and reflective music, songs and stories in a performance on St Patrick s Day in St Patrick s Chapel. Patrick, a celebrated singer/songwriter, was formerly lead singer of the alternative rock band Strangelove, and has since released several critically acclaimed solo albums. Doors 7pm Performance 7.30pm Tickets 15, available at April RAF Centenary Event Ceremony by RAFA Mid Soms to mark 100 years of the RAF pm. Digging Deeper Talk and tour with Eric Cobb. His theme will be Henry of Blois -Abbot, Prelate and Patron drawing on artefacts in the abbey museum to examine the role and career of this pivotal figure in the abbey s history, extending the discussion outside at key points in the grounds. Places for the exciting talk are free to members but must be booked in advance. Normal admission applies for non-members. 11am. Thur Macbeth ~ Strode College Strode College Performing Arts students explore the power of greed, and the consequences of wanting it all in their adaption of Shakespeare s Macbeth, conceived especially for performance at the abbey. Come and be transported to a world of mystery and mistrust in this exciting promenade production. Theatre gates open at 6pm. Tickets 10 Adults, 8 Concessions. May Gregorian Chant Workshop Sing Gregorian Chant for St Dunstan s Day. Open to anyone; women & men, non-singers, beginners plus experienced singers. Simple recitation in English leads to some of the rich heritage of Latin chant. Each session ends in a short sung meditation based on the traditional Benedictine monastic hour services. The day works towards an informal performance of Dunstan, a sequence in chant with readings. Workshop begins at 10am. 10 per a person. Booking essential. Available at St Dunstan s Day There will be a short talk on St Dunstan in St. Patrick s Chapel (free with admission) Times to be confirmed. Living History will give their usual tours but with extra focus on St Dunstan, and there will be self-guided info sheets also available (free with admission). The Gregorian Chant workshop (pre-booked and payable for participants) but available for visitors to listen to. Music from Michael Tyack (free with admission) Time to be confirmed. Before touring their seriously silly production of Romeo and Juliet around the world, they pedalled it 1500 miles around the UK by bicycle, with all the necessary set, props and costume in tow. Now, the show is back by popular demand and, in usual HandleBards style, expect riotous amounts of energy, a fair old whack of chaos, and a great deal of laughter. Performance 6.30pm. Advance tickets 15, 17 on the gate. June The Lord Chamberlain s Men present The Tempest This summer The Lord Chamberlain s Men, in their fourteenth successful year, are touring Shakespeare s spellbinding masterpiece The Tempest a play of soaring poetry, high comedy and tender love. Join us for this wonderful play where you can enjoy pre-booked theatre supper in the magnificent Abbey House. Performance 7pm. Tickets Adult, 10 Child. Glastonbury Abbey Summer Open Evening A fantastic opportunity to explore the abbey free of charge whilst enjoying music and refreshments. Free entry from 6pm. Glastonbury Fringe Grand Opening Glastonbury Fringe is celebrating its 7th year in 2018 with a spectacular line up: Goldray, Gaz Brookfield, Funke & The Two Tone Baby and Hobo Jones & The Junkyard Dogs. Doors open at 5.30pm. Music start at 6pm and ends at 10pm. Advance sale tickets are 10 Adults, 5 Children under 12. On the door tickets will be 15 Adults, 5 Children under 12. Tickets can be purchased online from or Ticket holders are asked not to bring alcohol to the event as there is a licensed bar. All alcohol brought to the event will be kept at the gate for collection upon exit. There will be food available at the event including vegan. Ticket holders may bring their own food to the event. From the dastardly Don John, to the daft Sergeant Dogberry, Much Ado About Nothing will bring you revellers, rascals and romance. Featuring the very best of the Bard s wit and wisdom, the fiery Beatrice gives Benedick, the bachelor, a battle of words to remember, and true love is at it s sweetest as Claudio falls for his darling Hero. Dig out your hampers and load up your picnic bags for Rain or Shine s 20th Anniversary, as the people of Messina find love, scupper mischievous plots and celebrate new found peace across the world! Available at Century of Sound Join us for a evening of classics from starting with the end of World Wars 1 and 2 with wartime classics, then the shaking 50 s and swinging 60 s, and slowly making the way up the timeline performing hits from the 70s, 80 s and 90 s until we hit the magic of modern day music and really get the party started. Remember to shake a tail feather, do the monkey, and flip your hair back and forth as we celebrate the diversity and emotion of music from every great age! Gates open 6pm. Adults 10 Family 30. July Churchill Singers Summer Concert The highly regarded Churchill Singers, long term friends of the abbey, return with a varied programme of music. Normal admission applies. Pilgrimage Weekend We are delighted to welcome the Glastonbury Pilgrimage Association Annual Pilgrimage on urday July 7th and the Clifton Diocese Annual Pilgrimage on July 8th. Pre-theatre suppers available in Abbey House The Tempest ~ Eboracum Baroque Eboracum Baroque are delighted to return to the atmospheric Lady Chapel at Glastonbury Abbey to perform The Tempest, Purcell s musical take on the Shakespeare play full of magic, betrayal and revenge. Available at August Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza The 2018 Extravaganza is delighted to welcome British born singer & songwriter Paloma Faith as the headline act. Paloma has had a string of critically acclaimed albums including Do You Want the Truth or Something Beautiful?, Fall to Grace, A Perfect Contradiction and The Architect. The 22nd extravaganza will round off with a show stopping firework display. Advance prices: 35 Adults and 20 for a child aged six to 16. Any remaining tickets will be available on the gate, priced at 40 adult and 25 for a child. Available at Fun Dog Show Gate opens at 1pm with entry to the Abbot s Kitchen Field by donation. The Dog Show starts at 2pm. All proceeds to the abbey s fund raising appeal. Three Musketeers ~ IK Productions Following their recent successes with Three Men in a Boat, Alice in Wonderland and The Wind in the Willows, IKP are bringing their unique brand to another classic novel. Expect swashbuckling, sword-fights and subterfuge in the fast, funny adaptation of the French favourite - Alexandre Dumas The Three Musketeers. Seven actors multi-role to create fast and furious comedy in an upbeat and up-todate adaptation of The Three Musketeers. Set in 1627, this production will have costumes indicative of the time and real sword-fighting choreographed by a professional stage combat choreographer, but will be self-aware and relevant for an audience in Start 7pm, 10, 8 Concessions. find details at Thu 25 Fri Outdoor Film ~ Film TBC Details to be announced please check Night at the Abbey 2018 It s returning at the end of summer with a blaze of light and music; put the date in the diary and details on acts and ticket prices will be announced soon. September Old Herbaceous ~ Kick in the Head Productions at Abbey House Described as Downton Abbey with gardening tips, Old Herbaceous is the humorous love story of a single-minded yet gentle man with a passion for plants and is a charming one man play which has entranced sell-out audiences all around the country over the last two years. An acute and sometimes hilarious observation of relationships between the classes in a simpler age, Old Herbaceous is sprinkled with witticisms and epithets. The evening blossoms into tender humour, much in the traditionally understated English style of the early 20th century. As Old Herbaceous, renowned actor Giles Shenton truly lives the part of the legendary Head Gardener, Herbert Pinnegar, inviting you to feel included in a private chat from a bygone, comforting age. Keeping you engrossed, amused and emotionally engaged from start to finish, Old Herbaceous will leave you with a feeling that, perhaps, all s right with the world. Start time 6pm with doors open at 5pm. 14 for adults and 10 for members. Afternoon Tea available. Medieval Banquet The Abbot s Kitchen will play host to a sumptuous medieval feast with music and entertainment. Three course meal and a glass of mead on arrival. Find out more at day 11 March Mothering day Luncheon Join us at Abbey House for day lunch on this special day with a small gift for mum included. urday 17 March The Rolling Cocktail Co presents Abbey House Warming The Rolling Cocktail Co presents Abbey House Warming - 2 ginspired events of Afternoon Tea and an evening of gindulgence. Afternoon Tea: A Gin & Prosecco cocktail (or mocktail if you are driving or under 18), a selection of freshly prepared finger sandwiches; scones with clotted cream featuring a gin and raspberry jam and strawberry preserve and a variety of homemade cakes plus your choice of tea. Please book either 3pm or 4pm serving. 25 per a person. Afternoon & evening ticket urday 17 March Gindulgence at Abbey House Gindulgence is a gin festival featuring a selection of gin suppliers, samples, cocktails, nibbles and themed gifts and runs 6pm to 10pm. The Gindulgence ticket includes a premium gin & tonic with a twist, Abbey House originated as a gentleman's residence and was built in the early 19th century for John Fry Reeves, a banker with antiquarian interests. Built in Tudor Gothic style, the siting and style of the house were determined by its setting in the grounds of the abbey. From its foundation it provided spectacular views straight down the length of the ruined abbey church and the Lady Chapel; these views remain today. When it was sold at the turn of the last century, it was advertised with some "interesting ruins in the garden" - we have come a long way since the abbey was described in those terms! a cotton tote bag, a branded glass, live music, samples from local gin producers and entrance to Abbey House - please note it does not include entry to Glastonbury Abbey. Combined tickets with G and afternoon T also available. And you can pre-order a cheese board. 18 per person. Mon 12, 19 & 26, Tue 13, 20 & 27 March Tue 3 April Vintage Afternoon Tea Enjoy Vintage Afternoon Tea in the sitting room of the 19th century Abbey House overlooking the ruins. Initially being held on Monday and Tuesday afternoons (1pm, 2pm and 3pm time slots) but other dates are available - if you are interested but would like a different date, please events@glastonburyabbey.com. Admission to the abbey is not included but can be paid for separately. Photograph for illustration purposes only Abbey House Today Abbey House is an important part of the Glastonbury Abbey estate and events and functions are being planned for 2018 to help contribute to the conservation and upkeep of the House as well as the abbey itself. Details of some events and tickets can be found on these pages and more are being added regularly so do keep up to date at The sitting room, library and a small meeting room are all available to hire as is a room which is used as a chapel for services from time to time. Mrs Gibson started her career at the house as a housemaid Annie Gibson. Find out about life of the times as seen through the eyes of a domestic servant with Mrs Gibson, aka Kay Wych she may give you some gossip! 2pm. Friday 30 March (Good Friday) Make a paper Lent Lily (Daffodil) In Renaissance art, you will often see the pale yellow narcissus present as a symbol of resurrection, self-sacrifice and eternal life. Come and make a flower well known in Greek mythology. Monday 2 April *Bank Holiday* Grow a cress head novice monk 11am - 1pm. *normal admission applies for all dates Easter Egg Trail* Fri 30 March to Fri 6 April 2 plus normal admission. *available all day Friday 6 April Nose your herbs How many of the herbs from the herb garden are you able to identify by smell alone? Learn about what the herbs in our herb garden were used for and make a small bouquet garni to take home. Monday 7 May *Bank Holiday* Make a Caterpillar What colour would you like to make your caterpillar? See how well it moves. Monday 28 May *Bank Holiday* Soap Carving Easier to carve than stone. Enjoy using the abbey as inspiration for your carving or even try a design of your own. Friday 1 June Clay Tile making Look at the medieval clay tiles remaining here at the abbey, then make a replica air-drying clay tile to take home. Friday 27 July Dig and Discover! How does an archaeologist record what they ve found. See what you can find in the finds tray, then record and draw it. Friday 3 August Make a Lavender Favour Enjoy making a simple favour to give to someone special, as would have been made in medieval times, using abbey lavender. Fri 10 August Make a rocking paper plate rabbit Most rabbits hop, but these rabbits rock. Make a rocking rabbit to take home. Friday 17 August What no chips! Looking at food grown in the Medieval Kitchen Garden It may seem as though chips have been around forever, but what did people eat before potatoes? Come and see what is The Bug Hunt Every Wednesday in August 8th, 15th, 22nd & 29th 2-4pm growing in the Medieval Kitchen Garden at this time of year. Friday 24 August Fondant Flowers One of summer s delights are the beautiful flowers growing in the abbey grounds. Make a flower from fondant icing to take home. Monday 27 August *Bank Holiday* Make a sunflower flowers are heliotropes they follow the sun as it moves around. Make a paper sunflower that reminds you of the sun. Friday 31 August Corn Dollies A traditional activity as part of harvest customs, make a corn dolly to take home. Friday 2 November Make a bouncing spider It is the season for spiders and creepy crawlies make a friendly spider to play with.

6 Abbey Exhibitions 10 February Thursday 15 March Exhibition of Gothic Gardens at Glastonbury Abbey by Strode College Students. Strode College Art & Design students will be showcasing their talent with an exhibition at Glastonbury Abbey featuring Gothic Gardens. This exciting exhibition will provide a great opportunity for members of the public, including those thinking of studying at the college, to see the diversity and quality of work achieved, while also observing the college s extensive and specialist arts curriculum. Swoop by Andrea Clark (Reflections on Nature exhibition) Living History Tours When you come to visit Glastonbury Abbey, be sure to look out for some rather unusual characters around the ruins! We have a team of costumed Living History presenters working in the grounds*. Tours will take place throughout the year and are free with admission. Jan Feb Nov Dec 11am,12pm,1pm, 2pm Mar to Oct 10am-4pm, every hour *Normal admission applies and costumed guides are subject to availability Angel by Tom Clark (Reflections on Nature exhibition) Peony by Marie Burke (Reflections on Nature exhibition) urday 24 March - day 24 June Reflections on Nature: Art inspired by the gardens and grounds. Marie Burke, Andrea Clark, Tom Clark, Ann Fagan, Melvyn Firmager, Rosie Rose and Lucy Willis. The theme of the abbey in its natural setting has inspired several local artists to create beautiful work. Fine figural stone sculptures by Tom Clark reflect the abbey s own carvings, while paintings and prints by Lucy Willis, Ann Fagan and Andrea Clark illustrate the trees, plants and wildlife which inhabit the abbey grounds. Delicate wood turning in organic shapes by Melvyn Firmager complement exquisite botanical paintings by Marie Burke and delightful textile animals created by Rosie Rose. Watercolour by Jackie Henderson (Footprint of the Abbey exhibition) Birds in the Apple Tree by Ann Fagan (Reflections on Nature exhibition)
