3 Exercise 2: What s the word? (5-7 minutes) Read the following dialog with your tutor and try to use context clues to fill in the blanks with the most appropriate word. You can find the missing word from the pool of words at the bottom. Best friends, Betty and Dana have just finished watching a movie from a cinema. Betty: Did you like the movie Dana? Dana: I sure did! I love movies filled with. It feels good to cry once in a while. Betty : I actually don t know how you convinced me to watch this movie. I prefer comedy movies. Dana: But I thought you said you found the interesting. Betty : My expectations of the movie were not met. I felt a bit bored around the middle part of the movie. Dana: I noticed that. All you did was on your popcorn the whole time.. Betty : I couldn t help it. I love popcorn. Dana : I don t like popcorn so much. I love tacos more. Oh, anyway, didn t you at least find the end quite interesting? Betty : Well, you re right. At least the story had a nice twist towards the end. Dana : Yes! The audience was so moved. I noticed everyone in the movie house was crying. Betty: I didn t cry but I was touched by the end of the story. 4 II. GRAMMAR REVIEW: Topic: Real Condition IF Clause in Present Tense (5-6 minutes) A Real Condition If Clause is used to present a condition or prediction. The main clause that comes before or follows this is used to present the result. Ex. If you give me a free movie pass, I can join you in watching the movie. If Clause Main Clause In all Real Condition If Clauses, the present tense of the verb should be used. A common mistake is using the future tense of the verb instead. Remember: The present tense of the verb should always be used with Real Condition If Clauses. Also, if the Real Condition If Clause comes before the main clause, a comma should be used to separate both clauses. Examples: REAL CONDITION IF CLAUSES Incorrect Verb Form The movie will be good if Damon will star in the movie. If popcorn will be sold in the lobby, I will - buy some. If they will cry because of the movie, I will cry too. If I will finish my work early, I will meet you at the cinema. Correct Verb Form The movie will be good if Damon stars in the movie. If popcorn is sold in the lobby, I will buy some. If they cry because of the movie, I will cry too. If I finish my work early, I will meet you at the cinema.
