The Arc of Monmouth Recreation Department offers a variety of social and recreational programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The programs are designed to serve various levels and are supervised by our staff and/or our wonderful volunteers. To register for programs, just complete the registration page of this Recreation Banner and /mail the form to the Recreation Department. For new participants, please contact our office for our welcome packet! Broadcast Club s Wizard of Oz On Saturday, April 21, Dorothy and Toto led a fabulous cast through the woods to the Land of Oz in front of a recordbreaking audience of more than 400 people!! Colleen Finnegan Kahl outdid herself in directing this cast to reach their ultimate level of performance. If you missed the original play, or want to Dani Z, Jeffrey K, Jeffrey R, Salvatore O, Harvest N, and Colleen C. lit up the stage relive all the fun, join the Broadcast Club for a DVD screening of The Wizard of Oz. The Circle of Friends Club is hosting this event as a fundraiser, since many of the club members performed in the show. There will be a $10 admission fee at the door. Refreshments will be served. No pre-registration is required, and no payment will be taken in advance. Cash or checks (made out to Circles Club) will be collected at the door the night of the event. Come cheer on your friends and celebrate their outstanding performance. Date: Friday, June 29, 2018 Time: 7 PM 9:30 PM Location: The Arc Center
2 Programs Karaoke at The Arc Come sing your favorite tunes at our very own karaoke. Our newly trained DJs will host this event. The night will be filled with music and dancing. Pizza and snacks will be served. Date: Saturday, July 21, 2018 Time: 7:00 10:00 PM Cost: $25 Members; $30 Non-members Blockbuster Movie Night The Recreation Department is hosting another Blockbuster Movie Night at The Arc Center. Come join your friends as we watch the movie on the big screen. Pizza for dinner. Last minute registrations are welcome, please call at least 24 hours in advance. Dates: Friday, September 14, 2018 Time: 6:30 9:00 PM Cost: $22 Members; $32 Non-members Beading for Beginners and Candy Making It is your choice which you would like to make; jewelry or candy. Try your hand at making some jewelry to take home or to give as gifts. If not interested in making jewelry, you can make some candy for the group. Date: Tuesday, July 17, 2018 Time: 7:00 8:30 PM Location: The Arc Center Cost: $30 Members; $40 Non-members Walking and Dance Club We are taking an evening stroll on the boards, and then swaying to the music of DJ Jay on the Bradley Beach Boardwalk. Dates: Fridays, July 27th and August 24th Time/Location: Meet at the Gazebo at Bradley Beach at 6PM. Pick-up will be 9PM Cost: $20 each week, $35 for both dates Members $30 each week, $45 both dates Non-members Café Theatre: Murder Mystery Broadcast is back with Colleen Finnegan Kahl offering a new one week café theatre program that is perfect for the fun-loving performer! This one-week workshop will culminate in a café theatre performance for family and friends. Work together to rehearse a comedic murder mystery performance piece all week, and then perform for family and friends on Friday. The Friday performance will be dessert-theater style with beverages and desserts for all attendees. All ability levels are welcome! Rehearsals are Monday-Thursday. Performance Friday, with showtime at 8PM. Dates: July 30 August 3, 2018 Rehearsal Times: 7:30 PM 9:30 PM Mon- Thurs Show Time: Friday, August 3 Performers will arrive at 7 PM Doors Open at 8PM Show starts at 8:30 PM Cost: $50 Members; $65 Non-members Summer Cooking with Dottie Join your friends and Dottie for a fun summer cooking program here at The Arc Center. The focus in this class will be on light and healthy summer meals! Dates: Wednesdays, July 25, Aug 8, Aug 22 Time: 7:00 9:00 PM Cost: $65 for Members of The Arc; $75 for Non-members
3 Beginner/Intermediate Golf This program includes months of instruction and guidance through our volunteers and on-site golf pros. Practice in the driving range, putting green, and the mini golf course. Intermediate golfers will also have the opportunity to play on the par 3 golf course. This program will prepare all interested athletes for the Special Olympics golf competition. Anyone who does not wish to compete in the Fall will end their practice on August 20, 2018 for a reduced rate of $100. Dates: Mondays*, June 11 October 15, 2018 Time: 5:45 7:00 PM Cost: $145 Members; $175 Non-members $100 for the shortened program ending 8/20/18 Location: Twin Brook Golf Center * No class on 7/2, 8/27, 9/4, 10/8 Advanced Golf This is an instructional program that focuses on improving your game, and preparing for competition. Coaches, Michelle and Krissy, will provide 45 minutes of instruction on special skills like full swing, chipping, pitching, bunker shots, trouble shots, and putting. This program will prepare you for Special Olympics competition in the Fall. Dates: Mondays*, April 23 October 15, 2018 Time: 5:45 7:30 PM Cost: $240 Members; $275 Non-members May pay in two installments Location: Twin Brook Golf Center *No class on 5/28, 6/4, 7/2, 8/27, 9/4, 10/8 Help Spread the Word: Benefitting Recreation The 2018 Arc-Anabel Golf Classic will be held on Monday, June 25, 2018 at Deal Golf & Country Club. This year s Golf Classic will be celebrating The Arc of Monmouth s Recreation Program and dedicated volunteers. All proceeds from the event will be benefitting Recreation. Please help us spread the word about the Golf Classic if you know any golfers who may be interested in sponsorships or corporate foursome packages. 4 Special Events Concert: Pentatonix at PNC Join us for an evening on the lawn at the PNC Arts Center for a night of music by the acapella group, Pentatonix. Your chair rental is included in the price. Just bring money for dinner or snacks. This is a rain or shine event, so please be prepared. Date: Monday, August 20, 2018 Time: Meet at The Arc Center at 5:30 PM Pickup at The Arc Center at 11:30 PM Cost: $80 Members; $95 Non-Members Space is Limited to 10 Hoe-Down at Allaire Community Farm This is a fundraising event for this wonderful farm with a big heart. The farm offers a special place for animals in need, families with cancer, and individuals with special needs. Let s join the community in this event to support this wonderful place. The evening consists of great food, dancing, music, and hay rides! Wear your western attire and be ready to stomp to those country tunes. You can meet us at the farm or meet at The Arc Center for transportation. Date: Saturday, July 14, 2018 Time: Meet at The Arc Center 5:30 PM and return at 10:30 PM or meet at Allaire at 6:30 PM Cost: $75 (this is the admission fee for the fundraising event). Transportation is an additional $10 to and from The Arc Center. Murder Mystery Café Theatre Performance Come watch the cast of Café Theatre perform their Murder Mystery. The cast will write this mini play during their theater week, and will perform it live on Friday, August 3, Refreshments will be served. You may pay at the door, or register in advance through the Banner. Date: Friday, August 3, 2018 Time: Doors open at 8 PM; Show starts at 8:30 PM Cost: $10 Northlandz and Flemington A visit to Flemington for a day of shopping, lunch and ending the day at Northlandz, home of the World s Largest Model Railroad! Date: Wednesday, August 29, 2018 Time: Meet at The Arc Center at 9AM and pickup at 5PM Cost: $55 for Members of The Arc; $70 for Non-member **bring extra money for shopping and lunch
5 Looking Ahead... American Museum of Natural History We are joining the Monmouth County Park System on this bus trip to New York. Meet at Thompson Park at 8:15 AM for 8:30 AM departure, and return at 5 PM. Just bring money for lunch and souvenirs. Don t forget an ID. Date: Saturday, October 6, 2018 Location: Meeting at Thompson Park, on Newman Springs Road in Lincroft Details will be in the Fall Banner Summer at The Achievement Zone The Achievement Zone, fondly known as TAZ, offers day programming for young adults (ages 21-30) in a variety of subjects. For detailed descriptions of the program offerings, visit our website at listed under The Achievement Zone. The summer session is being held 7/9/18 8/17/18. Each weekday offers a different class. You may sign up for one day a week, or more days, for the six week period. All classes are held from 9AM to 3PM with drop off and pick up at The Arc Center in Tinton Falls. Helping Hands and Bowling volunteer service at the food pantry and bowling in afternoon 2. Let s Walk & Roll walking club, rhythm and dance, followed by a round of bowling.
6 Recreation Registration Information Registration Please indicate on the Registration Page the programs and special events that you are interested in attending. DO NOT SEND IN ANY MONEY AT THIS TIME! We will notify you through a letter to indicate which programs you are confirmed for and which ones you are on the waiting list for. The Recreation staff has final approval for participation in all events. Please do not pay online via credit card until you have received confirmation. Cancellation If fewer than the minimum participants register for a program, it may be cancelled. A program reimbursement or credit will be issued. Refunds are not guaranteed for any program. If the individual cancels for a program, he or she must give at least three days notice for a refund for a ticketed event, and 24 hours notice for a non-ticketed event. Please note that in the event of a cancellation, we may not be able to refund your money. Inclement Weather In the event of poor or questionable weather, call our office for updated information an hour and a half prior to the scheduled time of the event. Our phone number is (732) When the program is cancelled, a message will be left on the machine. If the agency is closed due to bad weather, all programs during that time will also be cancelled. Transportation Limited transportation is available for some of the special events for those individuals who have no other means of transportation. There is a small fee when transportation services are utilized. Financial Assistance If financial assistance is needed in order to participate in a program, special event, or vacations, please call the Recreation Dept. We will set up a payment plan if one is needed. Full sponsorships are also available. If you need financial assistance, please contact the recreation office. We will send you a sponsorship application to complete and return. Change of Address or Phone If you have moved or changed your phone number, please let us know.
