2 WHO IS WINTER FILM AWARDS? WINTER FILM AWARDS IS NEW YORK CITY. Like the city itself, we showcase the eclectic diversity and excitement of the independent arts world. We are an all volunteer, minority- and women-owned registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in Our mission is to recognize excellence and diversity in cinema, with a special emphasis on supporting women and minority filmmakers. We focus on nurturing emerging filmmakers from all genres from around the world. We host four events each year in addition to our annual Indie Film Festival each February, we host an annual 48-Hour Film Challenge, a Comedy Competition and a Music Video Challenge. This allows us to support both local and international artists looking to gain the experience, recognition and contacts needed to break into the tough entertainment industry. We provide educational opportunities, media coverage, and, via partnerships with Indieflix, BalogDigital, Distribbr and others, we help to attain distribution for their work. Filmmakers who attend our events enjoy truly amazing indie films, fabulous parties, NYC tours and the opportunity to meet and learn from other artists an experience that comes from a premier showcase dedicated to emerging artists. Winter Film Awards is renowned for the quality and variety of the work we screen, and aim to welcome our filmmakers and attendees with an open environment where they feel inspired about their craft. This program is supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council. We encourage close collaboration to ensure the continued growth for all involved. We work with local schools, small and large businesses, cultural organizations and a variety of media organizations ranging from emerging local groups to global brands. Any organization can benefit from a check, but Winter Film Awards benefits from knowing our neighbors, helping them prosper, and building long-term relationships. 4 FUNDING GOALS Via our reputation for honesty and reliability, Winter Film Awards has created a first class suite of programs on a laughably shoestring budget. We seek expanded sponsor support to increase funding to meet these goals: ADVERTISING AND PUBLICITY Winter Film Awards primary goal centers around increased publicity and the hiring of a publicist, which will lead to higher attendance, media notice, sponsor and distributor interest and a larger local audience to share our artists' stories. PROVIDE TRAVEL STIPENDS TO FILMMAKERS TO ATTEND THE FESTIVAL Winter Film Awards believes that filmmakers benefit from talking to each other and forming partnerships without regard to location. The insurmountable cost for emerging filmmakers to travel to distant festivals is detrimental to their careers. Our goal is to work with local travel agents and to provide travel grants up to $500 for foreign filmmakers to attend the Festival. We are proud of the associations formed in previous years by filmmakers from far-flung locations and will continue to foster this by using grants to increase filmmaker attendance by 50% to 75% of accepted films. SPEAKER HONORARIUMS Winter Film Awards would like to expand our educational programming by hosting discussion panels on topics of interest to independent filmmakers and freelancers, including discussions on Legal Issues, procuring Insurance and roundtable panels on diversity issues. ARTIST FEES Winter Film Awards believes artists should be paid for their work. We look to pay our photographers, videographers, film editors and performers. 4 PAGE
