1 Region 23 UIL HS Varsity 5A & 6A String Orchestra Concert and Sight Reading Contest April 13 th 2017 * Mayde Creek High School, Katy ISD Dear s, I hope you are having a great spring semester and this information finds you ready for UIL Concert and Sight Reading. The following is information about the contest held here at Mayde Creek High School on April 13 th. If you have any questions please feel free to call. The orchestra hall phone is and my cell is The direct line to the contest office is Good luck and see you at the Creek, Michael Chandler and Zachary Miller Busses / Equipment Trucks Buses and Equipment Trucks will park in the band practice field/parking lot. Access to this lot is from Groeschke Road. Buses and vehicles will not have access to the PAC parking lot from 10:45 AM to 12:15 PM on Thursday.as our buses will need that access for normal school bus runs. Equipment trucks may use the loading dock at the back of the PAC to load and unload equipment. We are under MAJOR renovation at Mayde Creek so parking is difficult. Please arrive early. Don t Forget: Scores (numbered) for Judges Set Up Charts/Announcer s script (bring 3 copies of set-up chart/1 announcer s script if you haven t already ed it) UIL Form 1 (unless you have one on file with Mr. Fassino) Assistant

2 The Contest Office will be located in the ticket booth of the PAC (to the right from the PAC entrance). The Warm-up Room (Orchestra room) will have a generic orchestra set up for seating. Instrument case storage will be in the hallway between the Orchestra room and Choir room. There will be a McAdams metronome/tuner. Concert stage is in the PAC Equipment provided at Mayde Creek HS: Acoustic Shells (stage only) podium Yamaha Grand Piano McAdams metronome/tuner You will need to provide other equipment not listed. The Sight-reading Room (Band hall) will have a McAdams metronome/tuner and a podium. Staff and Visitor Reminder: s and other KISD staff should bring should bring their KISD badge. During school hours, ALL parent volunteers and non-kisd teachers (over 18) will check in with the front office to register. Students should stay on the bus until adults have processed through the security checks. Assistant

3 Etiquette Your students will be moving through the contest site very close to other groups performing on stage and in the sight-reading room. Please speak to your students in advance about the importance of etiquette during your visit. We want to ensure that all groups have equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities with minimum distractions. Please forward the following guidelines to your organization: 1. Absolutely no food or drink in any rehearsal area. Food and drinks should be consumed in the tiled hallway only. 2. We ask that you have adult chaperones with you to watch your students as you are occupied with check-in and picking up your ratings. 3. There may be NO recording devices in the Sight Reading Room. Please let your staff and parents know they may NOT have a cell phone out during the sight reading process. you. 4. For directions from your location go to Yahoo.com Directions from I-10: Take Barker Cypress exit Go North on Barker Cypress Turn left on Groeschke Road (3 rd Light). Unload buses in the North Parking Lot by the Fine Arts building. Before 10:45 AM, buses will park on the band practice field. East of the Bus Barn.
