3 Information about the Cliffs Pavilion Entering the theatre Jack and the Beanstalk is being shown at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend. The Cliffs Pavilion will be open from 10am on the day of the relaxed performance and audience members will be able to use the theatre facilities and purchase drinks and food from our foyer bar from this time. Merchandise can be purchased from 1.15pm. The auditorium will open at 1.45pm. When you enter the theatre you will walk past the Box Office on your right. The Box Office is a place where you can pick up your ticket from a member of staff. If your tickets have already been sent to you in the post you probably won t need to go to the Box Office. Past the box office is the foyer. This is an area where you can wait before going through into the auditorium. This can be quite busy and noisy before the performance as everyone waits to go in and see the show. 3

4 Foyer and Foyer Bar In the foyer you will see the merchandise area where you can buy souvenirs. There is also a theatre shop where you can purchase food and drinks like popcorn, sweets and chocolate. There will be decision boards like the one on the right helping you to decide what you would like. As you go through the foyer you will see the foyer bar where you can purchase food and drinks like cake and sandwiches. Signs will be up in the building to help you find your way to the auditorium, toilets, lift and other areas. If you need to leave the foyer at any point and go somewhere quiet, you can go to our Chill Out Zone by looking for the sign to the right. If you need any help or have any questions there are plenty of staff members who can help you. 4

5 Inside the auditorium The auditorium is the part of the theatre where the audience sit when they are watching the performance. There are two different levels in the auditorium. You may be sitting very close to the stage or you may be quite high up and looking down on the stage. You will have some time before the show starts to find your seats and get comfortable. The stage is the area where the actors perform. There are stairs on both sides of the stage. Please stay away from the stairs and do not climb on to the stage! The ushers will be at the side of the auditorium to help you at any time. Please feel free to leave the auditorium during any point of the performance and go to our Chill Out Zone. Mobile phones and tablet devices are permitted inside the auditorium for following the visual story, however no photography is allowed during the performance. 5

6 Characters in the show Below are pictures of the different actors and the name of the characters they play. Actors change the way that they move and talk as well as their costume. Lee plays jack Stacey plays mother nature Bobby plays silly billy Robin plays fleshcreep 6

8 Lights, sounds & scary bits Act 1 The show starts with a giants voice booming fee fi fo fum and drum rumble. The villain is Fleshcreep. When he appears on stage the lights and sound become scarier than usual. Sometimes Silly Billy makes jokes that are rude. He is only joking around! Evil Fleshcreep kidnaps Princess Apricot, but don t worry - Jack will save her! Act 2 In act 2 our 3D section appears after Dame Trott sings an opera song about curry! The 3D section ends when the Giant s rat appears. This means when you wear our special glasses which are given to you, some parts of the show will look like they are flying towards you but they are not. It will look like you can touch them. If you do not like the 3D part of the pantomime you should: Leave the auditorium for a little while when the actors tell the audience to put their glasses on. Take your 3D glasses off. 8

9 What happens in the story? SPOILER ALERT! These pages provide a longer explanation of the pantomime and plot so please don t read or share these pages if you don t want to know more. Jack lives with his mother Dame Trot and brother Silly Billy in the village of Towie on the Thames. Silly Billy is always making jokes and saying funny things. Jack is in love with Princess Apricot, who gets kidknapped by Fleshcreep the villain to live with Giant Blunderbore. Fleshcreep will only give Apricot back to Towie-On-The-Thames if Jack gives him money! Jack has no choice but to sell his beloved cow Daisy. Jack sells the cow to Fleshcreep in disguise, and is fooled into taking beans not money! The beans are actually magic beans, and grow a giant beanstalk in Jack s garden! Jack and team travel up the beanstalk to save Apricot and Daisy from the Giant. Jack and Fleshcreep fight and Jack wins! Jack saves Princess Apricot. They get married and live happily ever after! 9
