2 OUR MISSION To do white hot drama, in a tiny black box, with a little red twist About Redtwist Theatre Redtwist Theatre, formerly Actors Workshop Theatre, embarked upon its first production as an itinerant company in 1994 with Simon Gray s Otherwise Engaged. AWT incorporated as a non-profit 501(c)3 corporation in May It produced five more plays before moving to its current home in the vibrant Bryn Mawr Historic District of the Edgewater neighborhood in Chicago in the fall of Redtwist s first show in Edgewater, Praying Small, opened in September It was designated as a Critic s Choice by the Chicago Reader and was extended two times by popular demand. Michael Colucci, the founder of Redtwist Theatre, is the Artistic Director. His producing partner and wife, Jan Ellen Graves, is the Managing Director. In addition to acting, she directed the critically-acclaimed The American Clock by Arthur Miller and the Jeff-nominated play Aura, by company member, Tommy Lee Johnston. Michael s direction of All My Sons, Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Three Hotels, That Face, and Broken Glass was also critically-acclaimed and Jeff-recommended. During Redtwist s time at the Bryn Mawr location, its productions have received 34 Jeff nominations and won 9 Non-Equity Jeff Awards including one for Best Production for Man from Nebraska in As of March 1, 2008, AWT s corporate name officially changed to Redtwist Theatre. Please indulge me if I use this space to say that Redtwist is my favorite theatre. That may seem obvious, but I especially like a few specific things about a Chicago storefront, and Redtwist in particular: (a) the intimacy of this space, and being right on top of the thrilling action of a great play (b) the flexibility of our black box whereby we can redesign the stage and audience into any configuration for each show (c) our cushioned chairs they are large, sturdy, and comfy (d) our clean restrooms, and so much more. There must be a reason why Chicago theatre has become iconic. And it might be because of the very experience you will be having here at Redtwist. CAST PROFILES (in alphabetical order) Melonie Collmann (Melinda) was last seen at Redtwist stepping into the heels of Michaela in ELEMENO PEA. She is a proud graduate of Black Box Acting Studio s Academy, Class of She performed the role of Shelly in the Academy s production of ASHVILLE directed by Brad Akin. Melonie has a master s degree from DePaul University. She has performed in operas and musicals including a role in STREET SCENE at Lyric Opera of Chicago as well as the award-winning production of the American premiere of JERRY SPRINGER: THE OPERA with Bailiwick Repertory. Her commercial work includes spots for Sears and Walmart among others. Michael Kingston (Eduardo) is pleased to be making his Redtwist debut. He recently wrapped his second cabaret show 50WHATEVER/ SINGING WHATEVER at Davenport s Piano Bar. Michael is a two time Jeff Award nominees for his work in Boho s PIPPIN and TimeLine s FIORELLO! Other credits include works with Emerald City Theatre Company, Griffin Theatre, Eclipse Theatre, and The Neo-Futurists. Next up is HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS WITHOUT REALLY TRYING with Porchlight Music Theatre. He is represented by Gray Talent. Michael dedicates his performance to Grandpa, Pat, Dixie, and Thelma. Amanda Powell (Eva) comes from Gainesville, Florida, and graduated with a BFA from DePaul University. She has most recently been seen in THE SPACE BEHIND YOUR HEART with Step-Up Productions, 9 CIRCLES with Sideshow Theatre Company, THE ELECTRIC BABY and WRENS with Rivendell Theatre Ensemble, and BACHELORETTE with Profiles Theatre. She is delighted to be making her Redtwist debut. Michael Sherwin (Alfred) is very happy to part of the cast of HAPPY. A recent Redtwist Company Member, Michael has been previously been seen here in ELEMENO PEA (Ethan), CLYBOURNE PARK (Jim/ Tom), OPUS (Elliot), ELLING (Frank), MAN FROM NEBRASKA (Rev. Todd). He has also performed in CRAZY FOR SWAYZE (Patrick Swayze, NMTC), MACBETH (MacDuff, City Lit), and HAMLET (Hamlet, NWRT). Thank you for sharing in the magic of theatre. 5

6 STAFF/CREW PROFILES (in alphabetical order) Olivia Leah Baker (Costume Designer/Assistant Stage Manager) recently received a BFA from the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago for fashion design with the focus in costumes. She has been at Redtwist since 2010, becoming a company member in late This will be her 25th show at Redtwist, including all mainstage, late night, and off night shows as an assistant stage manager, costume designer, or both. She has also worked with Redmoon Theatre, Fairlane Theatre Co, Anna G Costumes, and the Stagedoor Johnnies. Charles Bonilla (Box Office Manager) has been with Redtwist since it was Actors Workshop Theater (some of our long-term patrons will smile fondly), and has seen it change and grow to the world class space it is today. He s proud to have played a small part in that evolution, and thanks YOU for keeping it alive and thriving. Daniel Carlyon (Sound Designer) is thrilled to be working again with Redtwist Theatre, with whom he last designed PLEASE SAY YES, ALL-AMERICAN, and DRUNK AND READY. Credits include SHE KILLS MONSTERS (Buzz22 Chicago, Steppenwolf Garage Rep), HOODOO LOVE (Collective Theatre Company, BTAA nomination), and the upcoming GOOD THING (The Poor Theatre). Assistant designer: IMMEDIATE FAMILY (Goodman Theatre); MURDER FOR TWO (Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Second Stage Uptown) and DISGRACED (Lincoln Center Theater). Daniel is an artistic associate with Buzz22Chicago, and will be sound designing their production of GHOST BIKE in March. Michael Colucci (Producer) is the founder and Artistic Director of Redtwist Theatre, and has directed many of the plays here, including BROKEN GLASS, THAT FACE, EQUUS (2010), WHO S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, THREE HOTELS, A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, LES LIAISONS DANGEREUSES, ALL MY SONS and PRAYING SMALL. He has also been seen on stage at Redtwist as Harry Hyman in BROKEN GLASS, Dr. Sweet in BUG, Martin in THE GOAT, OR WHO IS SYLVIA?, George in WHO S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, Eddie Carbone in A VIEW FROM THE BRIDGE, and Joe Keller in ALL MY SONS. In addition, Michael has worked at various theatres in Chicago, including Court, Victory Gardens, Time- Line, and American Blues. He is also a member of the Jeff Committee s Artistic and Technical Team. Jan Ellen Graves (Graphics, Marketing, Producer) most recently appeared on Redtwist s stage in CLYBOURNE PARK as Bev/Kathy. Some other Redtwist roles include A BODY OF WATER, THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN, THE LARAMIE PROJECT: TEN YEARS LATER, MAN FROM NEBRASKA, A DELICATE BALANCE, THREE HOTELS, EQUUS, DOUBT, WHO S AFRAID OF VIRGINIA WOOLF?, and ALL MY SONS. Some favorite Chicagoland stage roles include M Lynn in STEEL MAGNOLIAS, Ilona in SHE LOVES ME and Sister Robert Anne in NUNSENSE I and II. Jan will be directing Tommy Lee Johnston s world premiere play, GEEZERS, this summer at Redtwist. Jan is Redtwist s Managing Director. Elly Green (Director) is a British theatre director living in Chicago. Recent projects include UNWILLING AND HOSTILE INSTRUMENTS: 100 YEARS OF EXTRAOR- DINARY WOMEN (Theatre Seven), EVERYTHINGAOKE (Livewire), RABBIT (Stage Left Theatre), THE TOMKAT PROJECT (Playground Theatre, Upstairs Gallery, The Players Theatre, NY Fringe and iowest, LA). In 2013 she was assistant-director on 6

Elly s UK directing credits include: OUR COUNTRY S GOOD (Royal & Derngate, Underground), MY BALLOON BEATS YOUR ASTRONAUT (Tristan Bates Theatre), ABOUT TOMMY (Southwark Playhouse), COPENHAGEN (Tabard Theatre), SKYLIGHT (Stephen Joseph Theatre), THE BEACH (Theatre 503) and THE ZOO STORY (Etcetera). She spent a year at the Royal National Theatre as a staff-director, assisting on OEDIPUS, HER NAKED SKIN and MRS AFFLECK. She has directed several productions for educational institutions including: BEYOND THERAPY, THE COAST OF UTOPIA, PILLARS OF THE COMMUNITY, SUMMER- FOLK and THREE SISTERS. Elly is currently a reader for Steppenwolf and was formerly a senior reader at The Royal Court Theatre, London. She trained on the MFA in Theatre Directing at Birkbeck College, University of London. Sean M. Hogan (Artist/Sculptor) is also a painter and animator in his final year at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Ross G. Hoppe (Scenic Designer) has a background in scenic design and technical direction. Originally from Richmond, VA, he has a BFA from The Theatre School at DePaul University. Ross has worked professionally assisting local and national designers, and with Urban Theater Company, Heritage Theatre Festival, and Next Theatre. He is also the Project Manager for Crosstown Scenic. His past credits with Redtwist include ELEMENO PEA, CLYBOURNE PARK and THE GOAT, OR WHO IS SYLVIA? Alicia Hynes (Assistant Director) has directed A MIDSUMMER NIGHT S DREAM and ROMEO & JULIET with the Harborside Shakespeare Company (which she founded in 2012) of Bar Harbor, ME, where she will be directing HAMLET this coming summer. Alicia has worked with the American Shakespeare Center s resident & touring troupes, and with the Actor s Shakespeare Project. Her original play, CONTRAPPOSTO was produced as a senior project at College of the Atlantic in 2011, where she also directed THE TEMPEST, MACBETH and HAMLET as an undergraduate. Previously Alicia assistant directed ELEMENO PEA at Redtwist, and is delighted to be back for more! Allison Queen (Stage Manager) has served as the stage manager for ELEMENO PEA, MEN EXPOSED, PLEASE SAY YES, CLYBOURNE PARK, DRUNK & READY, REVERB, DATES FROM HELL, PURPLE HEART, THE GLASS MENAGERIE, THE LARAMIE PROJECT: TEN YEARS LATER, and OPUS. She was also assistant stage manager for A BODY OF WATER, and production assistant for THE CRIPPLE OF INISHMAAN. She received her BFA in stage management from the University of Oklahoma in 2008 and moved to Chicago. She has worked with many Chicago theaters which she no longer has room to list. Eric Vigo (Lighting Designer) is a professional Lighting Designer living and working in the Chicago area. This is Eric s first season with Redtwist Theatre and he is thrilled to be part of the work happening here at Redtwist. Recent design credits include PLEASE SAY YES at Redtwist, LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL with Circle Theatre s Emerging Young Artists and the World Premiere of LEFTIES with the St. Sebastian Players. 7

8 ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT Robert Caisley (Playwright) is Professor of Theatre & Film, and Head of the Dramatic Writing Program at the University of Idaho. He was named the 2011 Blaine Quarnstrom Visiting Playwright at the University of Southern Mississippi. He is currently under commission for Clarence Brown Theatre. His latest play, LUCKY ME, has just been optioned by New Jersey Repertory Theatre, Curious Theatre in Denver and 6th Street Playhouse in Santa Rosa, CA. His play, HAPPY, presented at the 2011 National New Play Network Annual Showcase of New Plays was a 2012 Finalist for both the prestigious Eugene O Neill Theatre Center s New Play Conference and the Woodward/Newman Award for Drama at Bloomington Playwrights Project, and was selected for a NNPN Rolling World Premiere in the 2012/2013 season at New Theatre (Miami, FL), Montana Repertory Theatre, 6th Street Playhouse (Santa Rosa, CA) and New Jersey Repertory. Other plays include KISSING (New Theatre, Coral Gables, FL; Phoenix Theatre New Play Festival, Phoenix, AZ), THE LAKE (Walnut Street Theatre, Philadelphia; Mill Mountain Theatre, Roanoke, VA; Lavender Footlights Festival, Miami, FL), GOOD CLEAN FUN (Montana Actors Theatre, Missoula), PUSH (commissioned by Penn State University), THE 22-DAY ADAGIO (Mill Mountain Theatre, Roanoke, VA; London s Royal Court Theatre, Summer Playwrights Program), FRONT (Sundance Institute s Playwright s Lab), KITE S BOOK (6th Street Playhouse, Santa Rosa, CA), LETTERS TO AN ALIEN (optioned by Flying Eagle Films, Mad Horse Theatre, Portland, ME), SANTA FE (StageWorks/Hudson, New York, which was a Finalist for the 2004 Heideman Award from Actors Theatre of Louisville) and WINTER, which received its World Premiere at New Theatre in His plays, FRONT and HAPPY have been published by Samuel French, Inc.
